they should also let jericho get at goldberg for what he did in wcw

Jericho legit beat Goldberg into submission backstage in WWE one day when 'Berg was trying to fuck with him.

And from what I recall of the Regal story, Regal was trying to lead Goldberg through a mat sequence which should have been pretty simple for a halfway trained wrestler, but Goldberg just flopped around like the fat sack of crap he is.

heh

Goldberg should've just beat the shit out of that fat british snob but he's too nice of a guy to do that. Regal should feel lucky he was ever in the same ring as someone as over as mega star Goldberg

heh

Okay, here's how I remember it being told, slightly less lolfully written:

Goldberg, regardless of how nice or mean he was, was being put over everybody in a way that made everybody look like a less interesting, less talented performer. Basically, he was squashing every single wrestler in the company, and when you get squashed, you lose respect in the eyes of the fans, as well as potential future title runs and such that would net you more income.

Regal, it seems, took offense to this and pretty much ignored much of what he was told to do (or at least obeyed the letter of his instructions but not the spirit of it) and wrestled in a way that made him look better than -- or equal to -- Goldberg before finally laying down for him.

btw, Heavy, three out of five stars there

Edit: "Goldberg, Jericho, Car" is a much more fun game than "Rock, Paper, Scissors".

Get this man on TV and give him his facepaint back.

Pfft, Goldberg can't compete against the bare knuckle brawling powers of Regal, plus Regal>Goldberg in ring and in character.

First of all, that Jericho/Goldberg incident wasn't nearly as bad of a 'beatdown' as reported.

Second, if you care that much about wrestling ability and moves like with Regal then go watch real Olympic Grecco Roman Whatever Wrestling.

Regardless of the fact that Regal was a better "in-ring performer" and what have you, Goldberg was a billion times more popular and over with the audience. His reign in WCW single-handedly kept that company afloat for 2+ years.

This is sports entertainment. Being over with the crowd, working the crowd, having a look and aura and persona that resonates with the people, that whole mark out factor that certain guys had is far more important than anyone's wrestling ability.

Nobody except IWC smarks that think they're smarkier and know better than everyone else give a shit that you can do a "arm-trapped cross-legged STF" or some shitty Daniel Bryan submission.

Goldberg was one of the biggest stars of his time, period, and one of the most over superstars in the history of the biz.

For anyone interested, this was the best of the wrestling matches from the Dream New Year's Eve show.

Josh Barnett vs Hideki Suzuki (IGF Rules)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o9oJ4IQXFT4

The HDNet announcers are guys that don't even like pro-wrestling and they were marking out over some of the stuff in this match.

Skip to about 6 min in if you just want to see the match.

Well I sir am upset and offended by this tirade, you assume that I am a man who dislikes Goldberg when I merely stated that I found Regal more entertaining, but no you attack with the ferocity of a furious fanatic, Bill Goldberg would be ashamed.
Now if you'll excuse me i'm off to watch some good old Olympic Grecco Roman Whatever Wrestling.

I AM TO ASSUME YOU DONT LIKE GOLDBERG EITHER? I WILL ASSUME SUCH A THING.

YOURE NEXT OWL

So I'm so bored that im watching WWE after 4+ years. I went from a huge fan to almost not caring, but I did follow some storylines on Wikipedia.

Since they broadcast the event a couple of weeks later here, they're showing 'the last smack down of 2011' here, and man do I not know who half of these guys are. I like this Cody Rhodes guy though. He can say his lines without making me cringe. He just kicked Goldust in the face.

Well, you won't find much of a story in amateur, Olympic style wrestling matches. That's the beauty of pro wrestling, it allows the performers to tell an orchestrated story through their actions in-ring. Also, the idea that someone who likes to see technical, mat-based wrestling in their 'sports entertainment' would be better served watching amateur wrestling is ridiculous. There are still promotions in the world that pride themselves on presenting the best technical wrestlers today's wrestling scene has to offer, where fans of catch-as-catch-can, hold for hold and shoot-style wrestling are still catered for, and I doubt that the majority of those fans would find much to like in amateur wrestling.

Also, just so we're clear, I reserve the right to say shit like "Daniel Bryan is a better wrestler that 99% of the roster" and don't expect you to launch into a tirade about why 'being over is more important than wrestling ability' every time I do it. I watch wrestling for my own reasons, primarily to see story-lines told well, in-ring, by wrestlers with the wrestling ability to put on engaging and exciting matches.

Another thing I loved about Goldberg were the slight, nuanced mannerisms and ticks he'd do. Watch the beginning of that tribute video I linked where he's walking out or the very end of the RAW debut video with Rock when he's walking back up the ramp right before the video fades out, and just see the little details with his acting and mannerisms which so many wrestlers today have no idea about. It really made Goldberg come off as this legit intense monster who was a ticking time bomb ready to explode. It was kinda funny seeing people comment about Jack Swagger's tick he did in that one video promo recently. That was terrible and looked like fake comedic bs. Goldberg mastered that intense psycho persona unlike anyone. Also loved his staggered/delayed entrances making his appearances that much more epic.

OMG Jinder Mahal? Another Indian heel, and I swear half these guys use the Camel Clutch. And what kind of name is Jinder Mahal? Stop embarrassing me WWE

First of all, no one was overstating the Jericho/Goldberg fight as a beatdown. Goldberg instigated and lost a fight to a smaller dude.

Secondly, telling a story and connecting with the audience is more important than execution. That's why I'll take D Brine and Punk over guys like Roderick Strong and Tyler Black any day of the week and it's also why Goldberg doing the same shit for years doesn't resonate with me.

Goldberg was one of the biggest stars of the time, so was Enrique Iglesias. But I wouldn't pay to watch either of them wrestle.

I like that they started having him come out in a turban for no good reason just to try to emphasize THIS IS A FOREIGNER. HE IS NOT LIKE YOU. YOU SHOULD THEREFORE BOO THIS MAN.

It's kinda disturbing the more you think about it.

I've been disturbed by this trend for years. Good to know everyone else is finally catching up.

Yeah, when he came out for the first time like that a few weeks back I was like "Wait, WHY is he doing that?"

It was worse when they gave Hassan a group of men dressed as terrorists.

I also like how Jinder's whole motivation was 'you Americans swear to lose weight as your new years resolution every year, but never do. I'm mad'.

On an unrelated note, Khali called Undertaker the Hindi word for 'motherfucker' way back when, but no one batted an eyelid coz no one got what he meant by it.

I guess the least offensive desi 'Rassler is TNA's Sonjay Dutt, even though his stage name is as generic as they come.

"I am not from here! I have my own customs! Look at my crazy passport!"

I'd rather see him wrestling in more of a Hassan role than a straight up evil foreigner, but failing that I don't see the turban as a problem.

More just a throwback to the 80s/ his uncle. He wore one in the indies while playing a face for the latter reason.

Excellent back and forth here. You have all matched each other hold for hold. I expect that after the 60 min we will head to sudden death overtime!!!

Okay, just when I was surprised with the WWE employing a guy from Cape Town, South Africa, they bring out a Latin American stereotype on a low rider bicycle. I think I should skip Smackdown and just watch Raw.

You would also be interested to know, Rosa Mendez is Canadian.

you'd be doing yourself a favor. I don't understand why Smackdown even exists. It does lousy gate numbers, and its like Thunders last days!!!!

The day Sin Cara got hurt, Smackdown was over.

The best part of Smackdown is they actually give wrestling time on that show. It's not promo heavy like RAW usually is.

I don't know who Rosa Mendez is, but google image results please me. But AFAIK a lot of notable WWE superstars are Canadian right?

And I guess that South African guy was a jobber. I got flashes of Eddie Guerrero during his entrance. I guess the WWE is setting up these Mexican lowriders as a serious tag team in 2012.

Also, know your enemy is a terrible theme song.

Rosa Mendez is the diva that usually comes out with Primo, Epico and Hunico (the mexican stable you were talking about).
