it makes too much sense, it can't happen.

I stay up at night like Liquidsnake thinking about how THQ could lose the license and some publisher CEO thinks to himself "Man, I remember how much I loved No Mercy. Whatever happened to those guys?" then proceeds to look up syn Sophia, contact the WWE, get the license, and make a great new WWE game.

pfft, that's nothing

Try when the characters stand around picking up a weapon then dropping it then walking in place

can lightning strike twice?

I hope so.

I hope they integrate Twitter into the game, so I can tweet and trend worldwide.

That'll be the whole wrestling game, just not winning the match but finding out if you can trend on twitter, if you don't within 8 minutes you lose and your entire career mode stops

WWE + NHL Card Game = Micro-transaction win.

There is nothing that you can say that would make an EA WWE game sound worse than a Yukes game. Nothing. I know you're going to try to reply this with some insane example, but at the end of the day it's not Yukes and that already makes it better than every WWE game the last decade not named WWE All-Stars.

That series is awesome.

But wouldn't you love a WWE licensed version, and non-text based?

Back when I was playing about 8 years ago I definitely remember real names and stuff. I reckon even today there must be at least user created data bases with the latest personnel changes reflected.

And for a quick simmer as I like to think of myself and wouldn't know how a text based approach could improve my playing experience.

So... no, not really.

I haven't even bought a WWE game since No Mercy, so I don't really care. The only way I'd be getting a WWE game is if it's on PC. I've decided I'm not going to get a console this gen, I'll wait till next gen.

That was when it was Total Extreme Warfare and freeware. Once it became Total Extreme Wrestling it went retail and so its own universe had to be made up.

You can get mods to put into real world stuff, though.

I more meant a full graphical interface rather than solely text stuff. The licence is more of a bonus.

DLC and microtransactions are here to stay. It doesn't matter what company makes the game. Atleast with EA we would get an engine for a game that isn't based on a PS1 game. Plus EA actually tries to make their games better each year unlike THQ that uses the take away one add one feature mentality every year.

I don't even trust a solely EA developed wrestling game. Look what they did to Def Jam Icon, and THAT was an arcade game. I'd trust Voliion with the license before EA at this point. A wrestling game has to come from a team with a wrestling game background. Most people don't get it.

Also, Yuke's isn't the whole issue here, the PROBLEM, Vince, is that they're still using an engine developed for a game that came out 12 YEARS AGO, and was never all that great to begin with. AKI had the far superior game, and even after that deal folded, the Day Of Reckoning engine was WELL on it's way to becoming something really good.. THQ's insistence on using the terrible Smackdown engine is what has held the games back.

...so Yukes isn't the whole issue, but the engine is too....which was made by Yukes....what?

Yeah, but Yuke's has also proved that they can make a great engine with DoR. The call to use the Smackdown engine when the game went multiconsole was THQ's because the game was selling better, being a Playstation exclusive and all.

It was ok at the time, but it's Yukes so that same engine would be exactly the same today after 9 more games.

Again, Yukes is shit. Fuck them.

If you say you post on publisher forums, were kicking you out of Wrassle GAF.

Hell no I don't.

I'm just saying that I don't really have a lot of faith in EA to do anything right with the WWE games, and those games already don't do a lot right as it is.

I'm not saying EA would be perfect, I'm just saying ANYONE ELSE would be better than THQ/Yukes. Right now I'd take a Silicon Knights WWE game.

A great engine is a great engine. Let's not act like any other wrestling series was making leaps and bounds with each installment. Hell, go from WCW vs. NWO World Tour to Def Jam Fight For NY and there are still a ton of similarities after 8 years. The difference is that the AKI engine was great 2 years in. Smackdown was never as good so no matter what they do, there will always be issues.

But still, I'd like a break from Yuke's :P

Alright, now dis dude done lost his mind.

THE HAIL WRONG WITCHU?

When wrasslin' was mega-popular, sure.

The quality of the games is very similar to the quality of the product at the times of the games release, the last good SD game was SDvsRaw2006 which came out in 2005, makes sense to me as things began to slide downhill from that point in the games and on the WWE shows.
No Mercy=2000, the most powerful evidence of all for this theory!

Eh, it was an ok imitation, but I wouldn't call DoR's gameplay great. It just made me think "I wish AKI was still making wrestling games and thinking of new and exciting ways to use their gameplay engine."

making good wrestling games would help making wrestling more popular.

heck I only got back into wrestling because I use to play no mercy and WWF attitude with a friend.

I watched it a little as a kind but grew out of it in the mid 90s and the games got me back into it in the late 90's.

All Stars had a bit of that since alot of non wrestling watchers liked the game.

The current Smackdown/yukes games are the reverse of that where only people who have been playing those games for years and haven't been turned off on them yet continue to buy them.

There was never a good Smackdown game.

They should make a great wrestling game and something they might even use at tournaments.

Look out Marvel vs capcom 3 turbo whatever edition, here comes WWE Wrestlefest 2013
