Nice to see Taiko PSP hanging in there. It would be nice if one of the DS's kickass original third party games could stay alive for more than a week :(

No justice in the world :(

Surprising that Rockman Dash did so well, but I thought this was out already? I thought Tron Bonne was the "sequel" to Rockman Dash?

The actual figures are not so high for Thursday.
I have read that #1 sold 18,000 and #4 sold 3,000.
Namco's target for Dig Dug DS is 50,000, incidentally :(

I don't quite get why brain training is selling so well. I actually have the simple brain training one and while mildly time-wasting, there are a whole bunch of better DS games out there which deserve better sales - Ouendan, JSS, Castlevania, Advance Wars. Hell, I even think Electroplankton is a more worthy purchase.

It must be the low price right? But then why aren't the Simple Series DS games doing as well?

:) 50,000 was not only the target, it was also the inital run. Proportionally, it's an E.T. style disaster. No worries though - I'm sure Namco will try to repackage those copies for the US release.

The Dig Dug number doesn't sound right. Mushi King sold 13,000 last week right? Why would it sell less than 800 for one day, unless it dropped off a huge amount (isn't Thursday a big sales day anyway, or is that only for new releases). Heck, how could all but 17 games sell less than 800.

We'll see though.

And even i am moderately surprised

namco are missing with their targets big time! 500k for tekken 5, 100k for pac n roll and now 50k for dig dug. yet pac pix sold ~100k! they really need to re-evaluate their method for making sales projections.

Pokemon XD is out in Japan? How were the reviews? Did it come out recently, 'cause #16 seems much lower than I expected in the first few weeks or so. Then again, it doesn't train your brain...

pokemon xd came out on aug 4th. iirc it received 29/40 in famitsu. i think it's sold around 200k so far. pokemon colosseum sold ~700k, so this hasn't done [as] well.

from the impressions i've read it's better than the rpg in colosseum, but it still isn't amazing - it's okay if you're a pokemon fan. the bottom line is nintendo still needs to deliver an equally amazing home experience pokemon game [as the gba rpgs].

Crap. I was hoping for much more than Pokemon Colosseum's RPG mode. It was so cumbersome and poorly designed. Why not just make it like the GB games? You know, quick, intuitive battles, pokemon raising, that sort of thing.

exactly!

the stuff i love in the handheld rpgs, the world to explore, great battles [especially multiplayer], raising, breeding, and the whole awesome pokemon experience just wasn't in colosseum. and apparently you still can't skip the battle animations!

i don't understand why nintendo invests so much time and effort in trying to turn pokemon into a more expected rpg formula?! one of the reasons it's so successful on handhelds is because it's so different.

come on nintendo, sort it out!

on a side note, chunsoft's pokemon mysterious dungeon games sound really good. it looks like you get to control pokemon. there are some pics at serebii. it's releasing with a version for ds [blue] and for gba [red]. i think you're going to get extra stuff if you play the ds version with the gba cart inserted. it's pokemon, so i think they'll be localised.

at least pokemon xd is focused around :) lugia :)

Is the Japanese economy still in a recession? How long has it been now? 10 years? It's really suprising to see how low sales numbers continue to go. Maybe it's not the recession, maybe it's as Nintendo says?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that Japan's pulled out of the recession, but is still at very slow growth.

The gaming industry is continuing its trend of negative growth, so for all intents on a gaming forum, yeah, the country's still "recessing." The fact the brain training titles aren't really even games and yet are selling better than real games goes to show how weak the actual gaming industry is here. They are pretty cool, though.

Well, you can take almost every negative thing Nintendo's said about their reasoning behind the revolution (reinvigorate, renew, innovate, small, cheap, quiet, fun for normal people) are all issues with the Japanese gaming market. They're currently peripheral arguments elsewhere in the world that will probably still capture the same Nintendo niche that they do now, but to answer your question: yes, it's a bit like how Nintendo describes.

Anyone here picked up Dig Dug? Seemed like a pretty interesting game, but would probably be pretty short. It didn't really have enough time at all to get good press. Was it even announced at E3? Wasn't it announced, like, a month afterwards, and here we are 4 months later with it's release?

I don't quite get why brain training is selling so well.

Because gamers aren't buying it. The DS has indeed sold to a new traditionally non-gaming demographic in Japan, and as the sale of real games would indicate, hasn't sold so well to the core gaming audience. Apparently old people and girls love the thing -- and as far as my tastes are concerned, the DS is welcome to have them.

Then explain Mario 64 and Wario numbers please. None of the traditional games apperared has ever been strong in Japan (at least in the last years). Wait for Mario Kart and other goodies and then tell. BTW, JSS has been doing pretty fine, would you dare to say it´s been bough by elders and girlies?

Does anybody have the numbers on the second hand market in Japan? Also, it would be interesting to see how well retro gaming is doing compared to the new game market.

Forgive my ignorance here. I'm a non-poster here, so I may be unfamiliar with the clairvoyance present in Gaming Age Forums members, but didn't the 13th of September not happen yet? "07/09 - 13/09" refers to Sept 7 - 13, no? Was that a typo?

It means that info will be found in this thread when the day comes, this is for daily, and not weekly sales.
