Gamecube users have nothing to buy, so when a game finally comes out, they buy it.
If that were true then 3rd party stuff like Enter the Matrix and EA sports games would be flying off the shelves because "Gamecube users have nothing to buy, so when a game finally comes out, they buy it."...

I would argue the Gamecube userbase has different tastes, which is why you see shooters and sports games make up many of the XBox 3rd party purchases while you see a Japanese/different flavor make up the purchases on GCN...

I really am just going to have to disagree here. There are five ka-trillion niche titles on PS2, and many of them have broke out and done extremely well compared to the expectations for them. In fact, I'm just going to lay it flat - there are exceptions to every rule, but the trend lies in PS2's court overall. This may be because there's 80,000,000 PS2 owners, but that's just the way it is.
Proprtionately, the trend is most definitely in GameCube's favor. This is likely because of the overcrowded PS2 market more than anything, but comparaed to their overall libraries, GameCube has far more "big little games" than PS2 does. Should we start a list? :)

No, lists are dumb. And we're just going to end up reading the lists differently.

Enter the Matrix and EA sports games DO fly off the shelves... or I should say DID, in the case of Matrix.

Obviously sports is a genre massively under-represented by the Gamecube core base, but EA games do sell on the console.

In fact, all 'mainstream' third party stuff sells on Gamecube, it's just that it's never as much as what PS2 and Xbox can pull off - third parties then stop making Gamecube versions and then, of course, Gamecube owners have nothing to buy.

Your argument about niche titles, hardcore genres like shooters, etc... is not one I'm arguing with you on. I agree, as my GC collection is mostly filled with the games you're talking about.

Seriously, let it be said now by an anonymous, random forum poster - RE4 will not be ported to PS2. Not to say that Capcom isn't trying, but they will realize soon enough it's not worth the effort. The best looking PS2 Capcom games don't come anywhere near close to what they'll need to accomplish to port RE4.

Flame away, this post is my opinion. RE4 is not possible on the PS2 - Demento, DMC3, etc are all proof of this fact.

It doesn't matter whether or not its possible graphically on the PS2 or not. It'll happen. RE is still known mainly as PS franchise. The games still sell pretty well on the system when they're released, even though it hasn't seen a real RE since REO. As GTA has shown, graphics really aren't going to turn people away from buying the game.

Awesome, go go Meteos! I actually surprised it hit #2 and did more than Pac-Pix, very very nice. I wonder how this'll play out in the long run. I told you the 10th would prove to have some interesting sales.

Come on. Super Monkey Ball outsells any individual EA sports title, something we can safely say wouldn't happen on another console, yet you claim that Gamecube players buy any noteworthy game that comes out because they're starved for games.

It's clear that the current Gamecube audience is looking for different games than the PS2/Xbox audience. A lot of that is different tastes among the userbases, some of that is due to the Gamecube being a second console for a lot of people, some of it is because the vast majority of games are build around the PS2/Xbox systems and controllers, rather than Gamecube.

bumpage! What a misleading title. I've been off GAF cause of work and going through the backlog.

for what it's worth~!

GO METEOS!
