Kobe beef

These are amazing. Some of the best foods ever. They melt in your mouth. So delicious! Eating Kobe beef was a quasi-spiritual experience for me.

Now I need to go back to Japan.

I love Japanese food :D There's this beautiful little restaurant across my work that I always go to, every month or so and they serve the most delicate, and delicious chawan mushis. Glorious <3

I also love sushi and unagi and beef tataki and ebi. Aaah.

Its 8.15 am here, and I'm hungry now :(

aww yeah, asari are very good.

but even better is hamaguri. its like how are they so delicious. so good

kimpiri gobo is also delicious. one of my favorite japanese staples

i also think japan has amazing mushrooms. i hear british people call mushrooms fungus foot or some bs, and clearly they have never had mushrooms they way they're prepared in japan.

yes shiitake are good or whatever, but there is also maitake (my favorite and far cheaper) eringi, shimeji, enoki, and the all mighty matsutake.

oh so good.

Had some shabu earlier for dinner. I want me some okinomiyaki and buta kakuni now. Or maybe a negitoro donburi.

Why are there hardly any good Japanese spots around the Manchester/Sheffield area? I miss living in LA for dat easier access. :S

My wife enjoys cooking Japanese food.

Shit we eat a lot of:

Tonkatsu
Curry
Onigiri
Okonomiyaki <3
Sukiyaki
Nabemono
Donburi
Zarusoba
Taiyaki

When we go out to eat we usually eat Japanese food too. It's weird, but I never get tired of it.

I have been trying a few Japanese foods this week.
My latest Melonpan pre cooking.

My latest Goodies from japan
Of the Kit Kats I have now tried the Shogoin Yatsuhashi and Itohkyuemon Hojicha (Hojicha-Roasted Tea Flavour)

They are both tasty but I imagine not to everyone's taste. It will be a love it or hate it thing based purely off the strength of the flavor. The normal kit kat base is good but the cinnamon and tea flavoring is strong enough that I wouldn't plow through a box of them.
I kind of like that its more something I can eat one or two a day with a drink.

The beetle diy gummi pack was fun to make but the flavor was not so good.

It was super tasty. Im a convert for nice tea now.

I see what you did there.

Here some homemade Japanese food (because nearby "Japanese" restaurants suck)

Salmon sushi with lots of fat:

In the Atlanta area, I was recently recommended this restaurant in Norcross: http://sushimito.com/
It's pretty good, although I have only gone there for lunch times (they have a daily special that is different every day, which is nice).
One time though, they forgot to put in the aburaage in my kitsune udon!! Unforgivable...

Even though summer is over, it's still relatively warm enough and having some tokoroten is always nice. I have only thus far found the Marukin brand sold around here though.

One day I realized that sadness is just another word for not enough coffee.
Ramen, Tempira and Tonkatsu for me.

Although I always wanted to try takoyaki.

Blinded by the luminous glory that is David Bowie's physical manifestation.
On a related note, I thought mocchi is too sweet :/

Really depends on the flavor and what's in it.

I love Japanese food but I can't cook it to save my life. :( I've been wanting some for a while.

Did you buy those boxed ones?

Yeah they're pretty much loaded with sugar, avoid!

When I was living in Japan my favorite restaurant was Koumen (光麺). I love tantanmen (坦々麺) but I've pretty much been craving it since going back to the States. I can't seem to find a recipe for it. Would anyone happen to know of one or be able to point me in the direction of one? It can be English or Japanese but I really just have no good idea of where to find recipes of Japanese food especially ones that are hard to find outside Japan.

I happened upon this thread while eating a grilled ham & american cheese sandwich of my own design. I feel so inadequate now.

Mmmmmmmm..... I've got to say miso ramen is far and away my favourite noodle soup.

Also, a couple of months ago I had the opportunity to show around a professor from Japan. He was obsessed with the idea of getting "Japanese food" here in the states. All we did was go to sushi bars (specifically to get the mythical California roll) and hibachi grills. We had a blast.

As a side if you love Japanese food - two of the best films ever!

where in seattle? I have yet to find much authentic Japanese food in Seattle, except for the stuff my fiancee makes me from uwajimaya

Setsuna near Northgate mall is pretty decent.

Ishian is probably the closest you'll get to "authentic" in terms of what you'll find at an Izakaya in Japan.

He thought it was delicious. He was like a kid in a candy store trying all the different rolls. He's really really into sushi. He's even eaten at Jiro's restaurant.

I guess he doesn't like "real" sushi. At least that's what the sushi "pros" tell me.
