Jason Schreier: Beyond Good & Evil 2 is still in pre-production after at least five years of development.

Ubisoft, the French video game publisher that also produces Far Cry, has faced challenges in recent years. In the summer of 2020, dozens of current and former employees accused the company of facilitating sexual misconduct, leading Chief Executive Officer Yves Guillemot to apologize and fire some of his top lieutenants. But many employees say the company has not done enough to fix its cultural problems. The fallout has prompted many employees to leave.

Ubisoft's game production has also struggled. The online game Skull & Bones has been delayed several times due to directional challenges, while Beyond Good & Evil 2, the sequel to a fan favorite, remains in pre-production after at least five years of development, according to people who work on that game. A planned remake of Prince of Persia was also delayed indefinitely.

Ubisoft is so mismanaged. This, Prince ofPersia remake and still no splinter cell even though there’s obvious demand. A buyout is very necessary here.

Sounds fishy.

Now, if we heard that the game's direction had changed several times over the course of the 5 years? then I'd buy it. Nobody stays in preprod with a clear target for 5 freaking years. This sounds like someone in charge keeps moving the goalposts. *coughmanagementcough*

Got to love Ubisoft for sticking with such an ambitious project. Can't think of too many AAA companies who would do this.

Actually, the easy thing to do is to stick with it. The hard thing to do is stop a project after you've invested tons of resources.

I’ll reiterate, Rayman Origins and Legends studio died for this. I swear Activision and Ubisoft are criminally negligent when it comes to building good will. Let’s kill Toys For Bob, Vicarious and Montreal.

Hard to keep the lights on for 20k employees by producing...2D Rayman games.

Beyond Good and Evil 2 is going for numbers.

I disagree. I wish more studios would stick with hyper ambitious projects like BGaE2. Too many abandon cool ideas because they need to adhere to deadlines.

Only 2 decent franchises are The Dovision and AC and even AC is showing fatige...

They killed Sam Fisher and used him as a puppet on Breakpoint games, and now this..Beyond Good and Evil is doomed.

Development hell. This game is never coming out.

How can you still be in pre-production after FIVE years? The fuck are you doing all day?
Same shit with Anthem. Bioware had no idea what the game was and had to get it done on the eleventh hour because the higher ups called it to come the way it was, there was no space for bargains any longer. Well, it was the worst game of 2019...

In other words, this game might never see the light of the day or it'll be overwhelming and shit. Hardly any game in development hell has paid off, only thing I can say it was quite successful was The Last Guardian, and even then it had its controversy between some players calling it boring and whatnot.

Rest

All these years later I still chuckle at what a fucking moron that guy is.
No it's not. They need to drop this lie already.

Basically, everything that can't be generated by copy pasting the gameplay for a sequel (AC, Ghost Recon, R6, FarCry, The Division) has troubles?

they announced it, took years to come up with a cgi trailer, and when they did it had nothing to do with anything anyone wanted from a beyond good and evil sequel

then they announced it would be some games as a service garbage thing

fuck them and fuck this "game"

Bloomberg/Jason Shredder are lying again.

There are many Ubisoft studios who have been working on BGE2 during years, which obviously means they are in full production. When a game is in preproduction the team working on it is small. In the updates they were giving in the game website mentioned they were well into production.

Companies should start publicly, clearly and quicly debunking these "journalists" or "insiders" who lie and spread fud over them.

They don't have troubles, they make a shit ton of money.

This time is long gone, this project is DEAD.

Kill it with fire and send the dust very far in the infinite universe.

And do you think that BGE 2 will sell?

The sequel to a 2003 game that was considered a flop back then?

I love the original game and I'm excited for this one, but man, even Ubisoft suits know that this sequel will sell shit. It lives right now because its considered a passion project, but the writting is on the wall.

And the Rayman games werent made by 20k devs, c'mon. They didnt sell tons of copies but they also didnt cost much.

No way this game isn't canned.

Too bad because I kind of like the idea of exploring a galaxy and visiting planets i.e. Mass Effect.

This will sell on it's own merit. People keep bringing up the original Beyond Good and Evil like it's relevant. No one bought that game 20 years ago. The BGaE2 audience has zero relation to the insignificant number of kids who bought the first one in 2002.

I'll never be on the side that thinks "AAA passion projects" are a bad thing. I'll take bumpy, arduous, ambition over 99 percent of what the AAA industry produces every time.

It's strange seeing the hate this gets when Ubisoft is constantly ridiculed for copy pasta game design.

Game is basically a project to develop a next gen engine for them. That's basically what i assumed anyway.
The game always felt like a tech demo.

Feels like it was ages ago. Are they still doing that?

Gonna watch for that shitface to write an article on how horrible the conditions were while working on BGE2

Edit: Haha...I didn't even read the blurb before posting cause I hate the dude and when I saw it, yeah, thought so.

If you call this cheap labor how do you call mods or the user generated content for games like Minecraft, Dreams or Little Big Planet? It's basically the same but without getting paid.

Btw, on a separate topic a year and a half ago they also announced an upcoming Netflix adaptation of the BGE series.

Maybe it's a bit too ambitious and the cringe inducing f-bombs dropped everywhere makes me want to sniff my underball sweat but beyond (ha!) that I thought it looked good.

Kinda sad it's most likely gonna be canned.

There is a dude on another forum saying he knows the guy doing the music for the game and said it's true.

Of course the poster could be lying but says he has nothing to gain from lying in a small forum so I guess just take it as you want.

There isn't "a guy" doing the music for the game. AAA games have a big team. In fact in this one they have a lot of radios with tons of songs and even some of them being made by fans.

I can't say who I know and what I know but you'd be surprised. xD
