Lotta people shitting on Jim Ryan here but all I see from that article is Hermen Hulst pulling triggers. Hard to tell what exactly is going on in reality, and if some of this stuff is even real or just over exaggerated as Schreier is wont to do.
True. This crowd is always making fun of other platforms for "having no games", and when i bring up a bunch of smaller, simpler or nichier titles they just laugh and imply only "big games" count.Hate to break this to some people, but Sony's audience has been sending a clear message for years, and that message is that the bigger the better, that production values trump everything else, and that any good game below AAA will be considered a palate-cleansing timewaster at best, a tech demo at worst. You snubbed the smaller games, you made your bed.

What a joke. Do you seriously think games like TLOU2, Dreams, Death Stranding or Returnal lack creative imagination? Then what do you think about Nintendo 1st party games with all their tweaked previous gens games and decades old IPs and the MS 1st party output in the recent years? Zero imagination?Yes.
It demonstrates a lack of creative imagination.
That post didn't say there were small just different from there standard 3rd person movie sim.Since when bloodborne and persona are small games?
TLOU is 'aaa' garbage.
They should focus on developers like Housemarque over ND.
When management changes, the incumbent will always want to put their stamp on things in order to justify their position. At the end of the day this small group built a prototype/proof-of-concept and that's it. It wasn't a new IP, or a "small game". So, really the only evidence we have is that they reorganized the teams responsible for making Knack and Gravity Rush.
Doesn't seem catastrophic to me, especially as neither of those franchises exactly blew the doors off critically or commercially. Is it really such a strange idea for Sony to put all their weight behind Team Asobi who've made a far bigger splash despite their work being restricted to VR and a pack-in to demonstrate the PS5's controller? Seems like a sensible reconsolidation to me.
Days Gone is interesting:Exactly.
IMO Days Gones sequel was not expected to exits... PC version was a hope to maybe the sequel exists and it still had change to that... that makes sense like I said.
One doesn't deny the other.
Which is why Housmarque got a AAA budget and 4 years for Returnal.

Now the same crowd is complaining Sony killing off the production of smaller games and concentratng on AAA.
As he said, y'all made your bed. Don't complain now.
I missed that 9 million sales for Days Gone... can you source us? Because it is around 5 million if I'm not wrong.Days Gone is interesting:
-Last year it was discovered to have sold over 9 million copies;
-it was patched to take advantage of PS5 in Nov, last year
-Sony added it to the PS+ collection;
-Sony referenced it in a tweet as one of the best games of last-gen (either this year or late last)
-A port has already been announced for PC;
-It's currently on PS+;
That seems to be a lot of push for a game supposedly not getting a sequel. Especially since most of it is so recent.
if returnal is AAA im sure that dogs can fly...returnal cost probably is around 10m (the medium for example was 6 or 7)Which is why Housmarque got a AAA budget and 4 years for Returnal.
Both The Last Of Us remake and Days Gone 2 not getting the greenlight (alongside with Bend being put to work on Uncharted) happened under Shawn Layden as Hermen Hulst wasn't named head of WWS until late 2019.Lotta people shitting on Jim Ryan here but all I see from that article is Hermen Hulst pulling triggers. That is false because their math had a big margin of error due rounding plus that numbers of players increased due it being on PS+ last year that are not counted as sales.
Numbers are from the promotion Sony ran last year "My PS4 Life"
What you talking about?That post didn't say there were small just different from there standard 3rd person movie sim.
Defense force taking this hard huh?

What's the news? Sony wants to make big games and it's a risk. Jason wait until you find out the Pope is Catholic, that will really blow your mind. I dont understand what evidence Jason has that Gamepass is the correct option either. No articles by him on that. Getting roasted by Barlog and Druckmann on Twitter must have done a number on him.

This site uses Trophy % to try to estimate players.
I just checked Days Gone seems to have crossed 5 million late 2020.
And if it will not be sucess on levels of Uncharted then they will be axed like all studios Sony killed.Which is why Housmarque got a AAA budget and 4 years for Returnal.
It is free on PS+ Collection since November.It wasn't on PS+ last year, it's on PS+ now.
