  • Customize licensed cars
The world of JDM would not be complete without a paint shop, where you can personalize your car in a truly Japanese style. Head to the tuner shop to unlock the full potential of the cars you've acquired from the dealership. Choose from licensed vehicles, including iconic brands like Mazda, Nissan, and Subaru.

I feel like this game needs an OT. Looks amazing. The map looks super fun and focused/tight. Tons of customization, even interior stuff, licensed cars, hours of radio stations, great graphics.

Online is planned for the future too I believe.

Some impressions

And hey this radio station they got is sick hah

Nice OT! So happy to see one for this.

Been looking forward to the game since it was announced. I'm glad they took their time with it because it looks like it turned out to be fantastic. It also comes at the perfect time since TXR was delayed and having both at once would have not been ideal.

For those not into drifting, grip also seems viable in this game. The devs put out a video showcasing a grip build. Seems like it's going to be really versatile but we'll see how much drifting is required.

Can't wait to get lost in this game on Wednesday.

I haven't heard any of the music yet but have heard it's really good. There's even a Eurobeat radio station in the game.

Yea the music selection is great. There's like 5 or 6 stations with hours of music. I love the Phonk one. One of a few racing games that are going to be rated "Mature" for the radio.

Is this more of an arcade type of game? I don't like race sims because I can't drive at all in them but would like a visually realistic driving game for a while now...

Finally, Need For Speed Underground III: Japan. And it's made on Unreal Engine so we can drive this baby in glorious VR! Wishlisted.

Demo was FUN! Price will be the deciding factor
GreenManGaming had it listed briefly at $34.99, but then it got updated to just "coming soon". One of the developers also mentioned on the Steam forums that "it'll cost less than AAA games" and then further clarified "less than $40" so I'd lay money on the $34.99 price tag being accurate.

This one is tough for me...

I have been into drifting since 2002, got my first car at 14 and began drifting. Been over 20 years now. It is undoubtedly my biggest hobby (sorry GAF), and I want to like this game but the physics just don't look right at all.

Ugh.

Idk. I also can't get hyped from the typical e-drifttubers who have never drifted IRL and hype everything.

Game looks really cool, but the physics seems so off to me when I watch gameplay.

They're going for realistic physics at all here. They're specifically and intentionally calling out the simcade driving dynamics. This isn't the game you get for realistic driving physics.

This looks like a fun relaxing time. I hope the environments hold up and aren't too repetitive

It looks good, but I really wish it was more like Initial D, high speed touge battles. So far from all the videos I've seen, most of the game is pure drifting, winning is about getting more points.

Looks great, me and a mate hopefully will bring our NSX and R34GTR back to Japan at some stage to do the mountain roads before shipping them home again.

Visit Spoon, Mugen & Nismo.

I want this game to be good, but I am concerned by the lack of sense of speed... at least in the videos. Maybe it's the behind the car camera, but it just looks sloooowwwwww.

But this game seems to do so much else right.

This one looked fire on the gamepla vids on youtube a few month back, i wish they made a console version.

Kind of.

They have 2 modes, arcade and simcade which they describe as more realistic.

But that's not even entirely what I mean. CarX isn't realistic, nor is FRL on mobile. But both are awesome drifting experiences.

NFS underground 1+2 weren't realistic either, but I know a dude who was briefly D1 and FD pro who used that game to train many, many moons ago.

What I mean is the cars look on rails, ala, NFS 2016. They look stiff, not flowing the way they should when sideways.

Just not expecting a lot here for drifting, even though it is specifically marketed in the name. Tandem with those physics looks down right impossible.

When I click on the developer's name, Gaming Factory, on Steam, my fears increase about 10x. Who are these devs and have they every done anything worthwhile?

I played the demo back in the day and it was alright but it was also very limited.

I'll definitely pick it up though. I like to support these types of games as we don't really get them anymore.

Does it really matter? They've proven their worth. JDM had a demo, then they released a full JDM Prologue, called Rise of the Scorpion, for free. Both were received very well.

Seems like bunch of companies are involved in this game. Any ordinary indie game ain't going to get the car license from these car brands

Also support from various racing peripheral companies like PXN, Thrustmaster, Fanatec etc

Thank you to all of our partners:

Intel, for being our reliable technological partner. Especially for all of the support and mentorship during the development.

Nissan, Mazda, Honda, Subaru, for believing in our indie project and providing car licences that came with these partnerships.

Logitech G, Thrustmaster, Moza, Simagic, Fanatec, Hori, PXN, Flash Fire, for providing hardware and the know-how to bring as many input devices as possible into the game.

Playseat, ADBL, for all your help, support, licences and knowledge shared.

Kudos to all of the wonderful music artists, who have contributed in building the best game soundtrack of all times! 🎶💪

Finally, thank you to all the people that will give us a chance and buy the game. Hopefully, with your support, we will expand JDM: Japanese Drift Master for years to come.

Ah, I see what you mean

I'm excited to hear some impressions. I really want this to be good.

There are lots of impressions out there, I've included a few in the 2nd post. They are youtubers though, so not sure if you're looking for more high profile reviewers like ACG, IGN, etc.

For all I've seen the impressions have been positive. If the demo was anything to go by, it's going to be great from what I've played.

First review in, I'll post some highlights/cons

Conclusion - Fun driving, needs more content, which is promised for the future.

I think he was a little harsh on this. Even his comment section thinks so.

Honestly fuck this review lol hope to see some more soon. Lots of racing content creators dont give ratings.

Have had this on my wishlist for a little while now. That live video on the Steam page of screeching and revving is kind of annoying. Hopefully there's more to the game than that.

Noice Thats Nice GIF

I wish I could find anything recent that would scratch the itch of Metropolis Street Racer. This looks like it might do the trick

First review in, I'll post some highlights/cons

+Handling is accessible and easy to pickup, not a sim
+Graphics are great
+Customization, especially the interior, is impressive
+Progression is good, building up your car, upgrading, etc as you ear money
+Plenty of events and a few things to complete while roaming
+Jiggle physics on passenger's titties @5:50

-AI is bad, doesn't adhere to the same physics you have
-AI cars when roaming are few and far between, not very busy on the highways
-No extras like billboards to smash, barns to find etc (sounds like this is being added post release)
(does anyone even like collecting shit like this in racing games?)
-City doesn't really feel alive
-No collision differences when hitting bushes, parked cars are like brick walls.

=Difficulties coming later/Console release later/More events and collectibles coming later

6/10

Conclusion - Fun driving, needs more content, which is promised for the future.

6/10 is harsh when there's a nicely rendered open world to drive around in with what looks like solid driving mechanics.

Unless performance is fucked, this'll easily be a Very Positive on Steam.

The AI thing does sound shitty, and same with lack of vehicles on highways. Maybe it'll be patched or something, supposedly there is a day 1 patch reviewers don't have.

I wonder how much varied mission and collectible content they will have as I am a bit averse to drifting. I could see myself enjoying driving around on the Honda ACTY Truck or Mitsubishi Lancer knockoff. A bit disappointed so much of the car list consists of Mazdas and Nissans. Really sad to not see Honda NSX-R at all.

Atleast you get 1 NSX hah, I'm sure they have plans for more if they're able to license them. You can set up your car for racing or drifting. Hopefully both are fun to drive. I personally love drifting.
