Jeff Grubb believes Crystal Dynamics, IO Interactive and Avalanche may be acquired by Xbox if their games works well

Like Bluepoint there is really no value in a developer without any IPs attached besides quieting investors.

It would be really funny if a Rare situation happens again, where Xbox bought the thing thinking Donkey Kong would be part of the deal and then it's obviously not... But this time with Tomb Raider.

So... a big burger of nothing.

If Microsoft sees a studio doing well, it begins acquisition negotiations. What's so surprising about that?

It's like saying that there's going to be a rainbow after the rain: it could happen (most often than not), but it also couldn't.

Oh well...

Yep. It makes no sense whatsoever for SE to sell their major western developer. This guy is full of it.
After the relatively poor sales of the Tomb Raider reboot and the disaster that was/is Avengers, they may very well look into selling them.

Not saying it would happen, but it certainly seems possible.

Seems craziness. Avalanche and IO maybe, but CD is fundamental for Square, would be a great loses for them.

"Insiders", especially ones who are mostly wrong, are the most pathetic losers, right below me.

I hate myself...

What?
Tomb Raider reboot sold close to 15M copies WW if not more. Rise is at around 8M due to that failed timed exclusive MS deal...but then again they got 100M from it. That's enough to pay for the game and you still have some of it left. Shadow is the one that underperformed but the game wasn't done by Crystal Dynamics.

I do remember Square Enix expecting the reboot to sell more at first but eventually it caught up to their expectations. Good word of mouth helped a lot for that release.

Look at it this way...if the first game had poor sales you wouldn't get a trilogy.

Even Rise's 8M copies is more than most Final Fantasy games, just to put those sales in perspective.

Only Avengers flopped.

If MS paid 100M for 1 year of a timed exclusive imagine how much they are paying for Crystal to work on a game of theirs.

Look at Sony and Square Enix. It's even worse. Look at Forspoken, FFXVI and FFVIIR timed exclusivity. Or the FFVIIR DLC exclusivity, the PSPlus month for FFVIIR, the marketing deals for Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy...oh and did I mention the DLC for Spider Man? Square Enix sells their games and teams to the big ones...the consumer comes next. And it's a strategy that works wonders for them. I can't even imagine how much money Sony and MS have paid Square Enix in the past 5 years for all this...

Selling Crystal Dynamics would probably bring them less money, lmao.

My worry is that the IOI and the Avalanche project are things outside their wheelhouse, like multiplayer or something and that could be disasterous, IOI did do some network stuff in Hitman 2 and 3 but Avalanche didn't add coop/MP to Just Cause 4 even though it seemed to be a big want from players coming off of JC3 (Which had an MP fan mod).

A obvious guess at this point.

BluePoint worked great with sony, boom aquired. Insomniac worked great with sony, so aquired.

Makes sense if they do a good job with Microsoft ip and MS wants to sure up more studios for exclusives, that they would think about buying them in the future.

Well, at least if IO Interactive become Xbox exclusive, they won't have to develop for PS5 any more.

Since they care so much about the PS5 users that they've left critical music bugs in the game for 9 months now.

I'm still mad at how fucking incompetent they are.

enjoyed the 1st 2 tomb raiders, 3rd kinda sucked. Gotta keep feeding gamepass, best deal in gaming.

yea hitman 3 is still quite buggy especially the missing audio issue.

Doesn't mean anything. Parts of companies and subsidiaries get sold off all the time.

It means a lot. studios that sell themselves do so because of financing problems. CD as part of a big publisher get regular projects. the SE parent has enough studios and games to to keep revenues incoming.

How many studios MS have they "bought" so far according to "insider rumors"?

Let's see:
SEGA
Techland
Valve
Take Two
Crystal Dynamics (regardless if they belong to SE)
IO interactive
Avalanche

Anyone else? lol
Lol Crytek too but that was a while back

Except CD is not independent and it's the major western SE developer.

Crystal dynamics alongside tomb raider IP would be good, not sure about the rest
Tomb Raider is owned by Square Enix Europe (aka) Eidos Interactive.
Unlike IO Interactive, CD has no ownership to the Tomb Raider series, they just a studio ordered to make them by SE/Eidos
It would be illogical for SE to sell the studio AND their biggest western IP.

Irrelevant, really.
They are already being contracted out to another publisher, that foot in the door is already firmly planted. Business is about making money, of which CD hasn't made them much lately, and Microsoft has a large amount of it. Pretty easy math.

That's not gonna happen. Why would square sell crystal Dynamics? Lol
Well they're not the only ones that can make a Tomb Raider game, Shadow wasn't made by CD and some people actually preferred that one to the others and yet some didn't too.
and maybe they don't want to make Tomb Raider anymore
Plus CD has had a big flop with a big IP recently and now they doing another, if that flops....
Yeah I see them selling them and giving the Tomb Raider IP to another studio at SE.
You're only as good as your last game remember.
Plus that would make sense, MS tends to buy studios that others sell because their games flops.

Grubb believes a lot of things many of which are not true.

People do tell him things sadly many are just voices in his head and not real people

Dude looks like he hasn't bathed in a week.

Anyway, sure. With Sony and MS buying up studios left and right and now that Avengers is on Games Pass, and the whole Perfect Dark thing.. sure. This is easy speculation.
