David Abrams @CheapyD

I’m not reviewing any Xbox One games so I will tell you right now, Ghosts on XB1 is indeed 720p vs PS4′s 1080p. Could that change? Maybe?
Well... It's been fun.

It seems like Microsoft is about to go into a shitstorm. Articles and comparisons about how their games are lagging behind will be widespread this holiday season and will have an influence on people perceptions especially considering the higher price.
How things have turned for them is incredible, last year at this point websites like Kotaku were claiming that developers were mostly confident in Microsoft and no one knew if Sony could launch in 2013, also PS4 was supposed to have 2GB of memory with a chance to upgrade to 4GB and a 900 Gigaflops GPU (LOL).
A year later Sony is launching in the US a week before MS at a cheaper price with the most powerful hardware and the best versions of multiplatform games. Allowing such unprecedented combination to happen is a serious blow for MS.
Still I think they can recover, they're going to struggle during the first year, they're not escaping from that, but if they can refocus around games, put their Kinect ambitions in the right place and price the system more competitevely, they can be successful in the long run.

I don't get why Arthur is arguing about the resolution being the point of of contention for the reasoning behind the embargo.

Who the fuck cares if that's the reasoning or not? The news of 720p fucking sucks for Xbox fans.

Haha. Fuck.

I feel bad for those working hard on this system and its image. Especially people like Albert Penello and Chris Charla, who have become public faces as of recently. I like Xbox and what entertainment and experiences the brand has brought me over the years. Unfortunately, if executives were involved in messing up the system specs, among the other obvious stuff (non-game focus in the last 4 years, lack of exclusives) it's a blunder they're going to have to fight against for another 7 years or so, unless they utterly fail and drop out of the console business in that time frame (unlikely). It's a damn shame.

At least Microsoft has huge wallets. Better start getting the world's most impressive line up of exclusives if you're going to have a fighting chance in not losing market share against bad word of mouth. You can make technically inferior products and be successful by marketing and word of mouth, but it's not going to help when you're STARTING OFF on the wrong foot.

And contradictory to my current disappointment, I'm stupid and I'm still buying an Xbox One.

So, the real question is, when are Microsoft going to confirm this?

I'm guessing a day or two before it goes on sale so people can't cancel their preorders.

Oh shit, lol at the people saying only Jeremy is assaulting Gies, if an IGN executive editor is saying this, it's going to be one hell of a ride.

The first game I'll buy when I move to next-gen is Battlefield so this just cements the position I was already leaning towards.

LOL, poor Arthur.

Oh Microsoft. For now it seems like it wouldn't have been such a bad idea to actually give Sony the headstart and rethink their entire product and come with full force holiday 2014. As their product is now I'm fearing it might very well be their last.

That's not possible to come out with a new product in that short of a time. They should have cut the price to $399 with kinect or $299 without kinect. A stripped down gaming only X1 at $299 would have won the console generation, but MS is run by out of touch execs who think the MS brand is stronger than it is and consumers are dumb. But people are not dumb enough to like Windows 8, over pay for Surface, or Windows Phone, and now it looks like that will hold true for the X1. The hubris and design by committee runs across all of MS' consumer electronics products.

What if the xbox one console launch gets pushed back to 2014?

Nintendo released the Wii U with an abysmal launch lineup and a slow-as-fuck system menu. And I still bought it. Microsoft can and, of course, will not delay the console.

It's a good reason to wait for all systems to mature. One year in, price cuts and bundles are the prefect time to invest really.

Yeah I agree that in general, it's smart to always wait and see (if not just for more games to be out on the system). But it just seems like there is so many problems with Xbox One (and problem's that we don't even know about), that I don't understand why someone would stick to their pre-order. Trust me, I'm an early adopter with all gadgets. I get dat itch. I'm not someone that approaches buying most gadgets intelligently (definitely more of I want it first sort of thing).

But this just seems like a very shaky investment.

That is ... wow.

I did too. And then I sold it. And the experience of using the Wii U for that month or two is why I still haven't bought another despite there being some pretty good games out for it. First impressions and all that.

At least Microsoft has huge wallets.

Do you really think they are going to go that deep? They are currently dealing with major Stockholders aggressively pushing Microsoft to sell off the division.

They can't go that deep.. If they do the Stock Holders could turn around and change the company as we know it. Stockholders were practically assured that Xbox One would be profitable from day one and they are still against it.

Yep agreed.

ah thanks for clearing that up. i still wish most forum nowadays would have a thread pin up top that tell you which member is a reliable poster and which isnt.

For the new members to read about it of course. Gaf have such an awesome and deep history, it can be confusing to newcomers.

People who aren't reliable are banned. Anybody who posts 'insider' information must prove it's legit to the mods, otherwise they get permanently banned. You don't need to worry about that kind of thing here, also, people who are clearly fanboys (outside of general preference for one system or another) will also be banned.

Any of the above.

Too much money in the video game industry for that to ever happen. When/if MS leaves someone else will step in to fill the void.
The industry is too prone to power shifts for anyone to leave someone alone atop a very slippery sloped mountain for long.

Also, you act like Nintendo is non-existent. I'd argue that the Sony/MS arms race is what chased them away from being hardware competitive in the first place. Without MS the arms race would slow down, development costs would plateau, and Ninendo likely would step back into the void immediately as the first legitimate challenger to Sony. That opening might even make Nintendo get with the times in terms of network infrastructure and marketplace as they'd then have a legitimate chance at competing profitably in a two format war.

Sony v. Nintendo with a new comer other than MS and we've got ourselves a far healthier games industry. Microsoft have shit on consumer good will faster than any company I've ever seen and the 180s are all thinly veiled "for now" promises that make it incredibly clear the original plan is still the end goal here.
Stop and think about what you said (the bolded part). If Sony, MS or Nintendo leaves home consoles there sure as hell won't be anyone to "fill the void". It's too risky business, the game industry is a joke as a whole and there are very few who are actually doing great in the industry commercially.

Why would any steady company like Samsung etc. want to mess their bed with this shit? It's not the same industry it was 10 years ago. A lot has changed and a lot for the worse.
