Microsoft had to change so much things on software to running on XBO that probably dev-tools had to wait some changes be done to keep maturing these tools.
Dev tools were some months behind PS4 software and it could be got even worse due software changed after E3.

For now I'm getting the PS4 but I don't want either console to get TOO far ahead of the other. Keep each other "honest" LOL.

Sony can easily catchup because they are trusted brand around the world. Japan wouldn't touch Xbox with a ten-foot pole even if it had Monster Hunter and a new Persona.

Reception for the Xbox One has been lukewarm in Europe despite the FIFA deal and later free copy of the game.

If it turns out to really be 720p on XboxOne vs 1080p on PS4, and MS is really forcing the embargo on reviews to try to mislead consumers as long as possible, that's just a dirty tactic.

Two very different situations.

1.) Sony always had the rest of the world...and still does.
2.) Sony had Blue-Ray for the price difference Microsoft has Kinect
3.) Sony had Japaneses Exclusives
4.) Sony had a beefed up first party
5.) Sony just came off the mega successful PS2 which was still making money and was not instantly dropped. Xbox 360's success pails in comparison to the PS2's success.
6.) This time the console parity will be more obvious.
7.) Sony didn't have Stockholders actively pushing to sell of the division and use the current resources to focus on Software/Services.
8,) Microsoft had a huge head start, Sony now has the head start but it's s insignificant headstart.
9.) Microsoft was easier to program for, now Sony is the easiest to program for.
10.) Microsoft had Indie support...now Sony has the indie support.

I'd rather play the PS4 version 'cause this time PS4 is definitly the most powerful and least expensive console with the very best prospects for the future, imho.

Call of Duty has been making money hand over fist at sub HD resolutions for the last 7 years. They're not cutting contracts short off a res difference.

GT5 and GT6 are almost 1080p and that's on last gen hardware. It's easy to make a linear racing game look good. Especially when you are using baked lighting like in Forza 5.
 
I believe Ghosts on X1 could easily get to be running in 1080p if given a little more time than a day-2 patch. Maybe about 5 days to a week and that would be real nice.

Just an uneducated guess. Guess we'll just see.

I'm down with this. I'm just waiting for MS to give a convincing argument to get their system. For $100 less, their competitor offers pretty much everything they do ... except a motion tracking camera that I don't need -- and, if I did, I could pick up one for $60 and still money for tacos and a movie.

My point is -- MS hasn't sold their system. I'm not paying more for less. I'm not a fanboy in any fashion, but I played a lot more 360 than I did PS3 (except recently) - heck, my gamerscore is up over 78,000 ... I've been a member of Live since 2006, and somehow, they convinced me the One wasn't worth buying.

But, for now, it's a PS4 -- because 1080p does matter to early adopters, but so does saving some money ... and hopefully avoiding OS issues.

It can, but that is very rare, a handful of games did that this gen.

But most games render at the same native resolution but then downscale to match the lower resolution display.

Oh God. This is giving me flashbacks to 2006, watching official forums become troll hives, as kids lose their shit over technical specifications that they don't even understand. It's the dark side of the internet. I almost feel guilty reading that page.

And it's only going to get juicier once launch day arrives.

Nope, nothing wrong with wanting a weaker console at all.

Remember the PS2? Or the Dreamcast? GC and Xbox shamed both of them, technologically. Who's got that graph of how many units the PS2 sold? Not that it's the same situation, but graphics do not make or break a console.

That said, I'll be enjoying BF4 in 1440p/60fps on my PC, nyah. :P
