The black man everyone at Activision can agree on
Go in thinking you're going to see some straight action flick and you damn well will be disappointed.

You'd think with the advent of the web people would actually LOOK to find out what a movie is all about before they go see it ...and then come online and act disappointed that it wasn't the type of movie they thought it was.... then again I could be completely offbase.

Hero is Jet Li's best modern movie. Every fucking shot from that flick could be a wallpaper.

Lemme guess -- too much dialogues?

That's not saying much. Everyone of his new movies sux. His earlier ones are another story. Don't believe the hype, Hero is not a good movie. Good for free download or $3 at chinese video store, but that's about it.

Even if i saw it thinking it was an action flick, i'd still appreciate the plot and visuals. i'm beginning to wonder if people can appreciate movies beyond violence, sex, and profanity.

The weekly box office totals generally prove otherwise. That, and the movies that get greenlit by studio executives.

:D No, sorry elitists I knew what it was about. I just wasn't expecting it to be so damn boring. But I guess, if you get a hard on watching special effects, then this is the movie for you.

Sorry... if you like Jet Li movies YOU are the lowest common denominator.

If by liking Jet Li Movies you mean liking Once Upon a Time in China, Shaolin Temple 3, Swordsman II, and Hero, than yes I like Jet li's movies.

I dunno, ask every critic on the face of the fucking planet who has the good sense to appreciate what Tsui Hark or Zhang Yimou does. :lol

This movie isn't all about Jet Li. It isn't Romeo Must Die or some shite. There's Tony Leung, and Maggie Cheung, two GREAT actors and they carry the story really.

I'm sorry from my memory I don't remember them having nearly as much screen time as Jet so I can't see how you say they carried it.

Well they carry the romance and the tragedy of the story. Alot more detail is given concerning their pasts with the emperor than there is to Wuming's. The drama is pretty much theirs.

The actor who plays the Qin King, Chen Daoming, is a better actor than those two put together.

Uh no, but he's great in Hero. Let him make a few more movies first. Tony leung is God :)

Always important for great movies =P

Its an ok(I’m being generous) movie in a pretty package. I was very disappointed with it.

Fist of Legend was Jets best movie.

Chen Daoming is a veteran, and have been in more features (I actually like his TV work better) than I can count. All I remember about Tony Leung in Hero is his distracting HK Mandarin accent.

What has Chen Daoming been in exactly, because his filmography lists about 8 things and like 4 of them are movies. He has huge gaps in his career. Tony Leung's career started the same year as Chen's and he has worked with the best, consistently I might add. Whether you're talking John Woo, Wong kar Wai, or Zhang Yimou. Chen Daoming was great as the emperor though, no question. I know he's in Infernal Affiars III but I've avoided the hell out of that series.

Maggie Cheung is just a goddess, the only person I'd put ahead of her is like Gong li.

Oh yeah and Tsui Harks best movies are Iron Monkey and The Blade.

Tsui Hark didn't direct Iron Monkey, Yuen wo Ping did. The Blade is one of the best though.

Fist of Legend is insanely mediocre, the action is full of way too much filler for my taste and the fights are insanely undercranked. I know it's common but it looks so so goofy there.

It started at my theater tonight and, judging from the 7:00 show, it's going to do very well this weekend. (At my theater, that is...who knows how well it will do nationally since it's not EVERYWHERE.)

Wang Jiawei, Chen Kaige, Zhang Yimou, and a handful others are the only notable directors in Chinese cinema. Who the hell else can he have worked with to reach fame? Chen Daoming was the Manchu emperor Kangxi in the CCTV landmark series "Kangxi Empire." It's right up there with Romance of the Three Kingdoms.

Sidenote: Does anyone else think Jet Li sounds like a pussy in this movie? He had a deeper voice when he was in his teens acting in Shaolin Shi.

Oooops got confused there with Ping.

If by undercranked you mean more realistic then yes it is. I much prefer that to the over directed wirework in Hero.

Obviously Tony Leung.

:lol Somebody serve you some angry juice or something? Cheebus.

Well if you're talking Tony Leung Chiu Wai, he was famous before ever working with any of those directors you mentioned. *shrug*

Naw, undercranking means it was filmed at a lower framerate so the fighters would look faster onscreen. Common practice, but I always thought FOL went overboard with it.
