For some reason, this immediately made me think, "Find a picture of Andy Richter like that."

But then, I saw this picture of Lou Reed. This is so much better.

Did you miss the part on page 23 where it says that EA was aware ESPN/Take-Two were bidding for exclusive rights to the NFL/NFLPA?

It's in the middle of all those blacked-out sections.

No, but you apparently missed the part on page 22 where it says that, "By late August 2004, EA had not received a response from the NFL regarding [EA's] proposal for a long-term exclusive license and EA executives seemed concerned that the proposal would be rejected."

You also apparently skipped over all of the preceding pages, which lay out pretty clearly why EA panicked and agreed to pay the NFL a bigger bag of money than the licenses were worth, as I stated originally.

Im all in with competition, making better games and all of that but when it comes to sports, Im a simulation type of guy that like my real players and real teams, and a Profesional Sports Video Game with none of this is a no buy for me, i preffer not seen a single flag penalty in Madden, that to play a game with John Doe of the Boston Minutemen, That was cool in the NES/SNES era, not anymore.

If you make good creation and file sharing tools there would be a NFL mod by the end of release week.

Don Bradman Cricket has a big community for adding players names etc, when the Xbox One (and PS4 too presumably) version came out I just pressed a button and downloaded all the stuff which was already done from the PC release, I would expect if it really isn't licensed that they would do a similar thing here

Why not? We used to get entire NCAA rosters on release day. Image creator/importer, league creator, player creator.

Given how things are now a day, I find it very unlikely that, at least on Xbox One you are could mod teams to look like real life teams (looking at NFL protecting the license). Wont be surprise they are treated as a Banable mod.

Fascinating stuff in that legal doc. I've NEVER understood how a public company is allowed to not disclose the license deal they have with the league in terms of dollars they pay. Heck, all the television networks say how much they pay for their rights. Yet EA gets away with not having to disclose? And they're public?

As a shareholder and a consumer I feel like I have the right to know. And yet, it's all blacked-out in legal documents. Shameful.

No NFL license would definitely affect my purchase as well, but I think as long as it had great game play, extensive customizations, deep drafts, online leagues, player creations, I'd probably still buy it.

One thing that would be amazing is, if a game like this can secure CFL rights. Would give it a bit more legitimacy and would probably triple sales in Canada at least. (CFL plays a bit differently than NFL), but I don't see any real roadblock here. A lot of NCAA guys and cut NFL players go and play up here etc.

The fuck is that shit? A dark-skinned, ripped Montana with fake teams? I thought this was going to feature NFL teams? If not, then to hell with this garbage. And the game is ugly going by that screen. Hype dead.

If the gameplay is good (Which Madden's isn't), I'll be satisfied!

If they do indeed release this on PC and its moddable, I would totally buy it. You know it wouldn't take long for some of the more talented modders out there to turn it into an NFL game. Some of the work people do on the NBA 2K series on PC is amazing.

Probably would not buy on console though, assuming customization would be locked down to a certain extent much like APF was.

I'm really hoping that this will be an NFL title in the long run.

Trying to keep hopes alive, at least.

The problem is that EA's Madden doesn't have to be good,It has to have the license. It has been absolutely shit some years, and sold well. I have a bad feeling that even if this games turns out to be a fantastic football game, plenty of people won't even bother.

Exactly. I'm amazed that, as a public company, they get away with not even saying how long their contract with the NFL will last. How did EA's anti-consumer deal with the NFL become more top secret than the Area 51 files?

That's a popular misconception...yes, Madden sells well, but not nearly as well as EA would have you believe. NBA 2K15 sells over 7 million copies now...yet you won't find a press release from EA from the past 2-3 years saying they sold even 5 million.

The decline in Madden's sales has led directly to their focus on Ultimate Team. Soak your shrinking (but loyal) customer base for even more of their $ to make up for the lost sales. That's the recent way for EA.

Madden NFL 15 was the second best selling game in the US in 2014. Right behind COD.

Madden's gameplay is good, it's just that it should be a lot better. Competition might not even help that, either. EA had NBA2K as competition and EA herp derp'd NBA Live.

If 2K/Visual concepts is TRULY developing and this is actually releasing on PC, you WILL get real NFL logos and players. You may not get faces or true to life body structure, but you'll get great gameplay.

I think given a proper logo editor akin to Forza liveries and a full player/team editor that allowed you to adjust all stats, this game could launch as an off brand football game with communities forming to make the entire NFL roster complete with team logos.

That would work if the gameplay is solid and shows some significant improvement over Madden.

Madden's problem is not its graphic details, it's the gameplay and the animations of the players.

For some reason, EA refuses to add more frames per animation, which results in robotic, awkward animation and movement.

Even with motion capture, they remove frames from the captures and it results in clunky, robotic, unrealistic player movement.

Now, tie that into a lazy gameplay engine that doesn't measure collision or momentum or multiple player interactions accurately and it's a "pretty mess" of a football game.

Really, it wasn't the fact that Joe Montana was on your game cover, it's the fact that the game had play by play, a stunning achievement at the time. And while I have such great memories of hearing that senior robotic announcer voice, there's really no point in even trying unless there's authentic automated Sports Talk.

I'm not sure if this video has been posted yet: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=QEjl8pAb0qQ

Interesting discussion, and they seem to believe that it will be an NFL title.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't that post on Operation Sports (what appears to be the basis of that video and the article in the description) considered false? People from 2k have denied being involved with this game, the screenshot they posted shows them without the NFL license, and the info on Windows 10 appears to be wrong.

But I guess it wouldn't be a few months out from E3 without some wild rumors.

I was too busy trying to figure out what the guy in white was doing, that I completely missed Black Montana.

It's not the animation, it's the fact that I can pinch and crash the line inside and and blitz my inside linebackers and my opponent still gets 7 yards through the A gap when he's got five linemen blocking 7 defenders.

Or the fact Richard Sherman can't get within five yards of a simple out route.

The animations in Madden have been bad/outdated for a long time. The animations are terrible.

Well, yea. It's all part of he problem.

The game is almost completely "RNG" with some minor interaction from players.

How you're tackled, where the ball winds up, whether or not a player is blocked or breaks a tackle, etc... it's all based on some random number system and pre-determined animations.

The problem is it's a terrible system with terrible parameters and it's completely unrealistic. And in many cases, it's repetitive because there are only a couple variations of the same things.

You got players WARPING into blocks or pass defenses who are completely out of position. Runningbacks who appear to have a hole to bust through are being pulled down by players who are being blocked out of the play.

Madden is dead to me until they rebuild the whole engine from scratch.

That rumor said it was to come out last year right? If true, I wonder if plans changed after seeing Xbox one sales vs PS4. All speculation of course but 2K could have changed the plans to release it in more platforms. The Microsoft deal could become a marketing deal rather than exclusive.

Just wishful thinking but I'd probably pickup Windows 10 if this rumor is true and it's NFL licensed. Please be true, please be true.

I'll go out on a limb(because it just seems to get overlooked every fucking year)and say the last two years of 'next gen' Madden still won't allow you to select what it was you want to challenge. Is this still a thing? I want to challenge whether or not the TD catch was caught inbounds, but Madden's shitty system thinks I want to challenge the spot of the ball. LMFAO SOOOOOOOOOOOO BAD

They could replace the players with tackling dummies on wheels and I wouldn't give a shit if the AI wasn't totally brain-dead and the game rewarded you for good playcalling.

Nope, still just have to throw the flag and cross your fingers but it gets even better.

Now you will find yourself randomly challenging plays when you're doing pre-play adjustments because some genius decided to make it possible to do a quick challenge by pressing the left trigger.

I don't really agree with any of that. The game is better then it's ever been in regards to dynamic animations and player collisions. That was all true about 4 years ago but it's not true now

Oh and EA's history of having every new feature they add being completely OP for a year or two. You cannot be blocked one on one even if you're controlling the most average of defensive tackles and no amount of messing with sliders can change that.

So fucking right.. madden is like a lottery.. Oh the ball in the air?? Better hope you get the right animation to catch it

Holy shit, I remember my friend and me just laughing our asses off with this game by manipulating the voice to keep going off:

- Get a runner safely to first
- Throw to first base anyway
- Repeatedly run the first baseman off and back on the bag (with the runner on it)

Result:

He's safe! Safe! Not in time! Not in time! Safe! Safe! Safe! He's safe! Safe! Not in time!
Infield back, infield in, infield normal...

TIMEOUT! TIMEOUT! TIMEOUT!

I still remember this after like 15 years. LOL

The only thing this thread is showing now is those who have actually put in time to a recent Madden and those that are talking out of their asses.

Of course the game is based on a dice roll, they have to be, how else would you capture all of the different attributes and skill sets from players across the league?

Honestly NFL2k5 was one of the worst football games I had ever played, THAT was straight RNG problems. I remember in our GAF league years ago I was down 4 and had a minute to go, I chose to RUN the ball because the stupid power meter made Tiki Barber a bulldozing back. Konex called a cover 2 I think and I literally ran through and over his defense for a long TD run. It was glorious but depressing at the same time. All I had to do was keep mashing on A to charge up then unleash a trucking move that couldn't be stopped.
