Joe Montana Football 16

why can't there be a football game that let you design your own plays? If they are worried about exploits/OP plays then that shows how bad the game engine is. Front Page Sports Football on PC back in the day let you design your own plays, I learned all about football rules from that game.

Madden let you design your own plays in the PS2/Xbox days, it's a disgrace that a decade later we're still waiting for the same features to be reintroduced.

Custom plays made a brief appearance in Madden 09 though you needed NFL Head Coach 09 to create the play, export the plays, and then hope Madden wouldn't freeze up when you loaded them up.

I can tell you right now if this game is true like the rumors say. It will sell a GOOD amount of consoles if you play madden.

Madden is at the point where every year there should be some drastic increases. The graphics could be 10 fold! Especially for Xbox One/PS4 ea had been slipping.. The game still looks like a up-rezzed 360 madden. Add that to the list of problems this game could fix with its eyes closed that ea refuses to fix.

-Lack of penalties
-Janky animation/engine
-Lack of likenesses
-Minimal improvement on franchise year after year
-Scripted gameplay
-DB/WR interactions animations, just plain terrible and head scratchers 95% of the time.
-No real weather options (only snow, rain, sunny or overcast)
-Commentary consistently SHIT year after year
-Presentation SHIT year after year (Multiple and VARIOUS stats never shown, talked about in game. Halftime show a fucking joke.
-Terrible ball physics, throwing animation in relation to actually throwing the ball is just fucked uo
-Fans in the stadium. Why every fan a 35 year old white or black male? No women no children no inbetween.
-Lack of physical characteristics/animations according to position
-Ratings mean What?
-Zone defense bad
-Man defense bad
-Defense is bad!
-Run blocking bad
-Players seem to lack football IQ.
-Lack of player control

I could go on forever..

How do you propose they make drastic improvements with only a 6 month Dev cycle?
I'm not saying Madden is perfect but people gotta be realistic.

I do wish they spent those 6 months a little more wisely than they do some years. Like the year we got 3v3 because supposedly that's what more people wanted than online franchise.

Split the development team and alternate short-term and long-term updates. Smaller features and enhancements that can be done on a shorter cycle would be released in the current year, while have larger features that take over a year of development target the release for the year after.

Have a third smaller R&D team focused on major foundational updates (engine, new tech, etc) that's on an even longer timeline...these would likely need to target console transitions for the next-gen.

You just reminded me that EA tried to make Head Coach a thing.

Yeah and it was interesting because they hyped the shit out of it too. They talked about how there would be dynamic college rankings and storylines you would have to follow up till the draft. A free agent system where you first had to win a playes interest by talking about different aspects such as play style, state of the stadium, teamates, etc. The ability to create different formations and plays. Then the game came out and there were little to no storylines, not even a screen to see the college rankings, the free agent system was broken, and oh yeah you can create plays just as long you make the ones the game wants you to.Damn EA pisses me off.

Would be interesting if this turns out to be true, just to see how EA reacts towards Microsoft. After favoring MS for a while with at least FIFA this would probably not sit well with them at all.

But a little competition would be nice for a change, to keep EA on their toes.

Would be real surprised if Xb1/Pc only, as Msoft seems to have a good relationship with EA (early access to Bf4 and Dragon age dlc, Ea Access, etc.) and I can't imagine them courting a potential competitor to Madden as a good gesture.

Too late, you had your chance with Madden :(

1. Alot of what I said they have had them in the game before but no mysteriously vanished. Examples:

-Live weather/weather options: Seemed to mysteriously vanished after madden 08/09?

-Fans, women seemed to mysteriously vanished since moving to PS4/X1

-Penalties, certain penalties fluctuate in which game they are in how often they are called. Pass interference is hardly called this year. Most penalties dont even exists which they used to have.

These all seem like easy fixes imo.. but EAs engine for madden is so archaic they put bandaids on things instead of fixes them which messess up other things.

"Oh players are getting too many picks discouraging others from playing? Take away manual strafe option and implement CPU assisted mechanics so both players have the same skill!"

2. What the hell happened to the NCAA development team? They dont make NCAA no more so they should be putting in extra elbow grease at EA Tiburon for madden. Unless EA laid them all off idk. If they putting in extra work why such minimal improvements?

3. Some if the same glaring issues exist year after year with no signs of being fixed until once in a blue moon they put a "band aid" on it. EA could have fixed plenty shit by now if they wanted to Its like they seriously dont care for the franchise and know its gonna sell regardless so they are paying the devs to polish turds every year and is ok with it.

I do not like exclusive titles, unless they come out for the console I own. :)

Looks like I won't like this game. :(

I think people are overestimating the MS EA partnership. Battlefield is lined up with PS4, Fifa is mainly a deal made to help move units in Europe "which is a rousing success"/s, and Madden in the US. If there is a 2k licensed football game coming, and its exclusive, that would be a much bigger draw then a Madden bundle.

I'd buy a good NFL game...Madden just hasn't been good in years...I think the last one I really liked was on PS2, though I bought a couple last gen. So if it takes Microsoft and 2K teaming up on a "first-party" football game to get a good one out there the same way it took Sony deciding that it was going to make a good baseball game since no one else was doing it...I'll take it.

There were so many things EA introduced and then just abandoned for no real reason. Here are some of the features they touted then just let fade away.

Madden 05

- Create a team
-Team Newspapers (Some were even licensed)

-Cheerleaders

Madden 06
-Superstar Mode ( Start by taking the quizlet, doing interviews, signing an agent, movie roles, moving from different apartments, etc.)
-Vision Cone
-Precision Passes

Madden 07

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't it the case that first parties could always create an NFL licensed game if they wanted to but just never bothered because EA was doing it really well?

That was never the case. The Sony/MS first party NFL games predate the exclusive licensing deal EA made with the NFL.

MS was actually strongarmed by EA to drop NFL Fever back when they were fighting over Xbox Live.

Interesting clause.

In all honesty, it wouldn't surprise me at this point if just about everything in that post is true. EA will still get its money from Madden and this game could be a great first step back into the W10 cross-buy arena.

MS has gone all in on the NFL (see app and the $400M investment) so this would fit in well with their focus.

Did they say PC version?

I read that correctly, right?

An actual PC version?

Built for Windows 10?

Windows 10, which is a free upgrade for Win7 and Win8 owners?

An NFL football game on the PC? 1st time since 2007?

Anything that can screw over EA's monopoly of my favorite videogame sports license is worthy of my respect.

And a true, next-gen PC version? Co-developed by 2K Sports/Visual Concepts?

Oh hell yes!

Do It!!!!

I haven't bought Madden in since Madden 10, which was 6 years ago and I traded that junk in after a month.

I've been playing a modded Madden 08 and a modden ESPN 2k5 for the past few years Because EA has gotten horribly lazy.

Lol

"You make Titanfall 2 multiplatform, and we'll get our own NFL game."

"Deal."

If this game really is exclusive to Xbox/PC, EA already knows.

This would be great. The last NFL 2k game is better than what Madden is today!

Back Breaker and All Pro Football were very promising games that just needed time to develop! Madden has had decades worth of additions, hard to compete right away!

I really liked OG Joe Montana Football too!

I wouldn't be too surprised by this, actually. I would imagine the NFL EA exclusivity contract has a "first parties are still allowed" in case someone tries to emulate The Show. Plus with Microsoft paying the NFL a pile of sponsorship money, I wouldn't be too surprised if they're trying to get something out of it.

Like, EA would be pissed, but I don't think it's going to inevitably bomba.

Also, it would be pretty much worthless outside of the US.

I am pretty sure the exclusivity agreement is over and they did not re up.

Yeah I agree!

EA signed another deal with the NFL last year. They won't divulge the new terms though, so something definitely could have changed that would allow first parties to make games.

EA shouldn't have anything to worry about, but they do and that's why they would be pissed. We're starving for a new game and I'd consider buying a console just to play it.

It wasn't even the best game the year it released. Stop it. I also wonder if people realize how much restriction comes with these licenses. There's allot of things the nfl doesn't allow to be in the game...things as simple as showing bad teams having low attendance or carts coming onto the field for bad injuries. It's why the hit stick was removed. Gameplay is one thing, but EA still can only put what the nfl allows them to put in.

Why I'm kind of hopeful they don't use the license, which is weird considering I'd never heard of the first party clause ala baseball, and deep customization is offered in its place. If indeed this is for pc/xbox the biggest draw would be allowing consoles to take advantage of the pc mods that would come.

If it is going to be released on Xbox One and PC, then I don't see this being much of a problem for EA. EA hasn't released a sports game on the PC since __________? And being a non multi-platform title won't hurt their Madden sales much. Seeing some actual competition would be good in the field of sports games. Things have been getting way to stagnant.

Madden 08 was the last time it was on PC.

You're right. Nothing topped NFL Gameday. Too bad they cancelled it.

Not only would I get an XBOne Id probably build a whole new rig to play football on PC if this game delivers.
