Growing up I always said I wanted to be an astronaut. John Glenn, you will be missed and your achievements always remembered.

Rest In Peace.

This is hitting me unexpectedly hard. Tears in my eyes.

If anybody is interested in a good obit: http://www.dispatch.com/content/stories/local/2016/12/john-glenn/john-glenn.html

Glenn flew 149 combat missions in World War II and Korea, where his wingman and eventual lifelong friend was baseball legend Ted Williams. In Korea, Glenn earned the nickname “Old Magnet Ass” due to his skill in landing his airplane under any condition, even after it was riddled with bullets and had blown tires.

Beyond everything else, he seemed to be a very decent man whilst others in the Mercury program weren't exactly model citizens.

In general, famous people dying doesn't do much to me, but these early astronauts always make me feel things. I remember when Neil Armstrong died and I looked up to the moon that night, I legit had tears in my eyes.

RIP John Glenn, a true hero of the world.

A great pioneer, explorer, hero, husband, politician, father, and human being.

We are lesser for his absence.

Godspeed, John Glenn.
