John Mayer is seriously talented

Cunth

Fingerlickin' Good!
On the guitar that is. I didn't realise until I saw him player on YouTube. But god damn his songs are fucking awful bland shit. I guess you really can have technical ability without artistic sense. Dude is the Hitler of the music world

I'd agree that his mainstream stuff isn't my cup of tea, but the guy understands his market and how to make money and is doing that in spades. He's a talented blues guitar player and does a lot of unplugged and indie style sessions that are more true to that world, this has been well known in the community for the past 10-15 years. Maybe hold off calling people hitler unless you actually have a realistic sense of the space he occupies in "the music world"

Fuck Canada.

I worked retail in the late oughts while finishing school. If I ever hear the line "say what you need to say" again, John will regret it

The man can play the fuckin guitar like nobody's business. Really enjoyed playing around with some of the teaching session videos he put out. Some of his songs are great, too:

For sure, though, I wish he didn't gravitate (zing!) toward pop. I feel the same way about David Archuleta; that dude could sing his ass off, and made the business decision to go for crappy autotuned pop songs. Suck, but there must be a $$$ reason to do so.

Seriously though I saw him live last year when we were allowed to do those things and he tore it up. He's one of the few guys out there that melts panties with his songs/lyrics and has the respect of the hardcore guitar guys. He's alright in my book.

Get past the "My Baaaaaaaaaaaaady" crooning and you'll realize he's really this century's incarnation of Stevie Ray Vaughn.

Try! / Continuum is some peak neo-blues.

His first two albums were pop he made to break into the industry and he admits those were the record sellers, Everything after that is just what he wants to do which has went from blues to folksy almost. Definitely getting better as he matured.

His discography is all over the place after continuum. From blues to folks to now sort of a neo low key pop.

He is truly talented.

He slays, even though I'm not really a big fan of his tunes. The guitar player in my old band was in a couple of classes with John back at Berklee, and he could already shred from the first day of school. Some folks just have it, and he's basically always had it. He was definitely born to play guitar!

There's a reason Clapton has been singing his praises since the early 2000s and invited him on to multiple Crossroads Guitar Festivals and albums. He keeps getting better and better. I'm personally not a massive fan of most of his studio recordings, it feels a touch over-produced and too smooth; but he is immensely talented. His fundamentals and influence is blues and guitar first with SRV (Stevie Ray Vaughan) being his biggest influence (he even got to induct SRV into the Rock And Roll HAll Of Fame).

He's an exceptional acoustic player too, the technique on this is nuts:

Also, a fine example of how to make every woman (and man) in the room cream themselves with your playing:

He's damn good. Neon acoustic is out of this world. It's a shame his latest works are not that good. His first 3 albums are 10/10.

Doesn't he do guitar concerts with Jimmy Paige, BB Kingand Eric Clapton? I think if they'll share the stage with you, you're probably pretty good.

He's amazing on the guitar. Also, I like his music. His music sure is different now compared to "Your Body is a Wonderland"...

Always thought he was kinda bland, but this I can easily listen to. Both his voice and guitar playing shines here. And yes he's very talented.

His talent as a guitarist and vocalist is undeniable. It's pretty impressive to take a fairly iconic song and do it better than the original artist did.

He's one if the best guitarist around. Still waiting on a full blues album from him. John Mayer trio is still his best stuff.

Another guy that is over the top talented and slept on due to making more pop oriented stuff, Charlie Puth. If anyone understands perfect pitch, he's just ridiculous.

John and Charlie are both Berkeley grads, your musical foundation matters a lot. There's a lot of great and unique natural players, but when you have that upper echelon of experience it makes a big difference.

Neon is a banging tune, I love it.

I'm not a typical dude I guess. I find blues kind of depressing, it doesn't make me feel rhythm at all. I prefer catchy tunes or something I can nod my head to. The final scene of The End with Backstreet Boys, I was like finally, someone understands, life should be full of mass choreographed dance routines man!😂
