On the heels of his impressive stint as The Daily Show fill-in host this past summer, the Comedy Central program’s veteran correspondent John Oliver has landed his own topical comedy talk show, on HBO. The show, presenting a satirical look at the week in news, politics and current events, will debut in 2014, airing on Sunday nights. It joins HBO’s long-running Real Time With Bill Maher, which airs on Fridays.

John Oliver To Host Weekly Comedy Talk Show For HBO

I really enjoyed him filling in for Jon this summer, so I'm really looking forward to this.

Is this going to be in addition to The Daily Show?

Negative. Towards the end of the link, he gives a huge thanks to the TDS staff, so looks like he's gone.

What do you think?

I really doubt it.

Nope. He's leaving TDS.

That sucks :( He was my favourite correspondent.

But it's great he got this opportunity. He's really talented and deserves it. Good luck to him.

Maybe I've been watching Jon Stewart too many years, but Jon Oliver's stint as host was so much funnier. Will look forward to this show.

Damn, good grab. I'll have to see a few of these before I commit, but this has been a long time coming for John.

He was definitely the best correspondent at TDS, but Jason Jones has visibly improved and I like the team better than ever.

Awesome. I'm a huge Bugle fan (even the pun runs), but why the fuck is this going to air on Sundays?

That night already has too much damn stuff to watch between HBO/Showtime/AMC/PBS.

Guess that "groom Oliver as Stewart's replacement" plan backfired.

HBO probably gave him a bigger, longer and more guaranteed contract. Plus the fact that he won't be holding up Stewart's unbeatable legacy if he did have to take over the Daily Show. This is just a win-win scenario for Oliver. And I know that JS won't love him any less for it.

Jon Stewart really does seem like a really good identifier of talent. A lot of his alumni have gone on to have successful careers. He sounds like a good guy too, and I've actually had the chance to talk to a few of the correspondents at a random event (can't say where) and they say he's a really sweet guy in person too. Also that JS is really shorter than he looks on camera lol.

Just give him Bill Maher's slot and kill Real Time.

Even when I agree with Maher, which I often do, I find him insufferable.

Yeah, Maher is just SUCH a dick about everything. And he's a little bit off the deep end in terms of medicine, vaccinations and such. Guy believes in recreational drugs, but has no faith in traditional medicine for some reason.

Ugh, I never really liked the Daily Show that much, but I saw a random episode over the Summer and I thought he was AWFUL. He was trying so hard to ripoff Jon Stewart's schtick, it was extremely irritating. Even right down to the phony try to hide laughter shit Jon Stewart does.

Ha, I knew there'd be Bugle fans in here. So great.

John Oliver made me watch the Daily Show for the full length of his hosting, and I haven't watched since. I live in the UK though so it's on at awkward times and a day late.

Well I guess that explains why I haven't seen him often on TDS. It sucks as he was one of my favorite correspondents. Good for him though I thought he did a good job when he filled in for Stewart.

Sucks that he's leaving The Daily Show and Comedy Central all together (don't have HBO) but good for him. He had some pretty big shoes to fill this pas summer and did a phenomenal job.

No way Hello Ladies is coming back.

Why do you say that? I mean, I don't necessarily think it will be renewed either, but no one's been reporting the ratings so unless Merchant has said something on Twitter, we really have no idea one way or another.

HBO has gone straight to the shiter after canceling Luck.

Not really.

Yes, lets continue killing horses for our amusement!

That's pretty much what horseracing is though.

That's basically just who he is. He does the same thing on the bugle, too, just in audio form.

Also, he's hilarious

Disappointing he's leaving TDS, but who didn't see it coming? His relatively successful stint as host all but assured he would be moving on as soon as a good enough offer was on the table...

Waiting for Aasif Mandvi to get his gig. Some of the bits he has done on TDS puts 60 minutes and Frontline to shame. I'm serious.

He has really great during his run, I dont see why people think CC was grooming him for something, the show never changed its name and there is really not a lot of places to go for mocking American bipartisanship.
