Konami confirms the PFA’s Player of the Year as one of the UK faces of its hugely popular football series

John Terry, the respected England and Chelsea defender and 2005's PFA Player of the Year has been confirmed as one of the faces of the UK version of Konami of Europe's Pro Evolution Soccer.

Terry, 24, has enjoyed a tremendous season, leading his Chelsea side to Premiership glory and to a Champions League semi-final. He has also established himself as a key member of England's international side with his battling performances. As part of the agreement, Terry will be closely involved with the Pro Evolution Soccer franchise.

With its most recent incarnation - Pro Evolution Soccer 4 - released in October 2004, the series is renowned for its realism, on and off-the-ball movement and intuitive control of the best-selling football series with Producer Shingo 'Seabass' Takatsuka and his team constantly looking to add new gameplay features and aesthetic touches as they continue the quest to deliver the most realistic football title on any format.

It is this realism that, as with many other top level footballers, attracted Terry to Pro Evolution Soccer. A confirmed fan, the Chelsea captain has hosted tournaments at home for his team mates and takes copies with him when on International duty. As such, his knowledge of the game and position as one of the world's greatest young talents makes him a perfect figurehead for the series.

"I've been a massive fan of Pro Evolution Soccer for years now and am really pleased to be able to work with the talented people behind such a fantastic game," John Terry said of the agreement. "It's the game of choice for lots of players as it is so true to the real thing. I'm looking forward to getting involved - and getting to play advance versions on the way!"

"We are delighted to have a player of John Terry's calibre working alongside us on Pro Evolution Soccer," commented Jon Murphy, UK PR and Marketing Manager for Konami of Europe. "He is a massive fan of the game and we are looking forward to using his enthusiasm in the continuation of the series."

Play-Asia also list the Japanese version for an August release, but... is there any info on WE9 out right now at all?

Online mode on the PS2 version?
Seabass promised way back when the Live enabled Xbox version was relesaed that PES5 for PS2 would be online. Guess we'll have to wait and see.

Well there's that Liveware version in Japan, but no doubt Europe will cop a shafting regarding the online play, they'll fob us off with the >"the online infrastructure isn't in place to support it"< line.

If any version of WE is missing the online support it'll be the US version. Konami likes Europe quite a bit.

na, konami already startet with beta testing their first online pal game (slai - steel lancer arena international) and the next one will be "the regiment". so, there is a very good chance, to see PES 5 online on ps2.

Holy crap, does this mean Konami acquired some form of EPL license to go along with Serie A, La Liga and Eredivisie? Be kind of weird to have Terry on the cover but playing for West Midland Blue (or whatever the hell they're called at default). Probably getting my hopes up but that would be terrific, and one more nail in FIFA's coffin.

<bitterarsenalfan>John Terry should have signed for FIFA. EA buy their way to victory, so do chelsea</bitterarsenalfan>

PES5 on the PlayStation 2 will have online play, that I can confirm. Also licensed music and possibly licensed German Bundesleague. NO Premiership license due to cost and FIFA's dealings.

in pes4 they had all the correct player names, it was just possible to rename the teams. Hope they don't mess up the stats this time though..

DAMM YOU EA! You'll burn in hell for this! Now all the FIFA lovers have at least one more year where they can complain that PES doesnt have 'real teams'....

pretty cool. he actually sounds like a real fan of the game too.

wow, licensed sountrack huh? thats a first! it might feel kind of weird though...

adding the Bundesliga would be cool. the more licensed leagues the better.

online PES and WE connectivity please. and WE online for DS and PSP.

give it to me. please. thanks.

Probably not that far, but it being built from the ground up on the PS3 seems likely. Makes sense for them to do that too.
Yeah, exactly. It's not a matter of them being "fucking morons" (nyah, Shinobi), but just in how they develop the games.

.....as much as I would KILL for PES5 360.
