and I have a question.

I installed Itunes, drivers, blah blah, and the first thing that occurs as I hook my Ipod up to my PC is a "Do not disconnect" message. Now reading a FAQ, I discovered that Itunes automatically begins transferring all it's music files onto the pod. Thing is, I have 14 gigs of music in my Itunes library and am wondering how long will it take?

Pretty lame that there's no status bar on the Ipod or Itunes to let me know how far along it is. All I know is that it's been displaying that "Do Not Disconnect" sign for a good half hour now.

Depends if you have USB 2.0 or not--if not, it'll take overnight. If so, I wouldn't expect more than two hours.

I thought iTunes shows which songs are transferring? You should be able to look at your library and see which songs have transferred so far.

There's a progress bar on ITunes.

Have you clicked on your ipod in the playlist section of itunes? Have you checked the now playing section in itunes? They both display the status of the transfer...

The iTunes window should be showing you what it's transferring, as well as a progress bar. I haven't used the PC version, but as far as I know it's the same.

Make sure you've selected the iPod in the source bit down the left of iTunes. Also clicking the little triangle in the left of status panel at the top will toggle what information it displays in the panel. As well as showing you what track is playing etc. it can also show you what is being copied to the iPod and a progress bar.

go into itunes and turn off automatically synch ipod/itunes or whatever it is

It won't automatically transfer all your music right away.
I think it'll ask you the first time.
Personally, I would turn that automatic transfer stuff off right away.

And, when you're transferring, there is a progress bar.

Also, when you are done transferring, make sure to 'eject' the iPod rather than just yanking out the cord.

For some reason Itunes wasn't recognizing my Ipod, but once I tried to "Safely Remove Hardware" it went straight to Itunes and was working.

I now see the transfer progress and everything is A-ok. Thanks everyone.

Is there any reason to do that if you don't have the disc drive function enabled? I always just pull the cord with no problems yet.
