It's ok to play Nazi for these guys. They vote Democrat which is a get out of jail free card meaning feel free to play Nazi all you want it's totally cool

Also I thought people were terrified of normalising Nazis. Guess that was a load of shit

Nah I'm with you man. Not seeing how this is supposed to be funny, or a satire.

Looks pretty funny.

There's a world of difference between satirising Nazis like this and normalising them. It's a shame so many kids today can't tell the difference, and think any depiction of facism should be banned. Personally I'm all for seeing those dumb fucks being held up for ridicule every day of the week.

i don't know what kids you are talking about. im not a kid. i dont want to ban shit either. just hypocritical as fuck for the same people who cry about Alex Jones and Rosanne Barr to go and pull this.

Di$ney is making the bold leap from profiting off space nazis to profiting off comedy Nazis.

Taika is a hammer legend and this looks great. Dont let American politics taint your perception of the dude just because he made a Marvel movie and is hot in Hollywood right now.

Not feeling it, wish we got more serious WW2 movies. You'd think they'd be hot right now with all the "Nazi" talk.

I ain't seen Alex Jones and the only thing I know about Roseanne was she was accused of making racist comments. I saw her on Rogan and her explanation was that her mental illness causes her to make outbursts, which seemed reasonable enough to me. As far as I can tell neither Jones or Barr are being applauded for satirising fascism by the same people who have criticised them or called them racist. I don't know shit about Disney so I ain't commenting on that.

How loosely is this based on the book? Apparently the story takes a weird turn:

The kid's parents die. He keeps taking care of the girl. The war ends and he pretends Hitler won, so she can't leave

Man I hope this still happens lol

Was this originally an anime?

(I'm confused)

No, it's just bad jokes from me and that other user because there's this anime called "Jojo's Bizarre adventures" where the main character is always called Jojo (or some variation). It has nothing to do with this though

The character I posted is indeed a Nazi though. And in a sort of weird twist he is shown as evil and twisted at first but ends up being kinda cool by the end

Only seen Ragnarok, but I really dig Taika from interviews as well. He seems really great.

Not sure if this is for me though. I imagine it has a lot of homages to the Dictator. Those are really the shoes that are hard to fill. Charlie Chaplin killed it, and even had the bragging rights of Hitler himself loving it. And then there is this:

Never heard of this until now, but I am in. The Hitler "you can do it!" line got me good. The sheer absurdity of it all seems like it would be worth it. Will definitely have to see how the reviews sound when this hits theaters.

I've seen The Dictator, it was decent but forgettable. honestly "goofy Hitler" as a concept isn't all that interesting past the surface transgression with all the insight of a Family Guy cutaway. but this will do well selling to people that think you tubers are literal 40s style nazis

Actually looks fun. Wes Anderson vibes all over. Hitlers Moonrise Kingdom, lmao.

Will watch it when it eventually is out on streaming.

have a source for this claim? sounds made up.
According to The Tramp and the Dictator, Chaplin arranged to send the film to Hitler, and an eyewitness confirmed he saw it. Hitler's architect and friend Albert Speer denied that the leader had ever seen it. Hitler's response to the film is not recorded, but another account tells that he viewed the film twice.
also this is interesting:
In his 1964 autobiography, Chaplin stated that he could not have made the film if he had known about the true extent of the horrors of the Nazi concentration camps at the time.
but i guess we don't have to worry about that now cos there are no concentration camps

This looks great!

Man this is going to cause some major pearl clutching. Just look at Grace Randolph's face already :messenger_tears_of_joy:

New trailer looks even better. Stopped the trailer half way through because I don't want to see too much.
I shouldnhave done the same, but I couldn't help myself. Taika as Hitler is an inspired choice. Can't wait.

this reminds me of that edward norton camping movie

when movies make exaggeratedly whimsical depictions of people like kim jong un (The Interview) and hitler in this, it just doesn't work

what adult would actually find that funny?

south park actually does this kind of thing right

Have you seen Taika's other films apart from Thor Ragnarok?
If not, check out What We Do in the Shadows and Hunt for the Wilderpeople. See if you like his kind of humour.

hopefully we get some youtube ecelebs hot takes with no rational thought behind them but nevertheless stated with the conviction of a proud idiot ala extra credits "there you are playing a game and suddenly you are a nazi! you didnt ask for this but here we are! stop normalising nazis"

Yeah generally satire works when you're not sympathetic to the thing you're satirising

Taika Waititi is quickly becoming one of my favorite writer/directors.

I feel weird smiling and laughing at this trailer. When the jewish girl starts climbing out of the attic I'm thinking, "What does Steven Spielberg feel about this scene"?
