Star Wars: Starfighter comes to theaters on May 28, 2027, directed by Shawn Levy and starring Ryan Gosling

Fuck it, I'm in (to be disappointed again)

It's the easiest Star Wars movie to make. Forget about Dead Star, forget about Luke, Wedge, Red1, Gold Leader and shit.
....

Directed by generic director

Credits rolling.

It's basically impossible to fuck up on this one.
Good old Kathleen Kennedy is already saying "you think we can't fuck this up? Hold my beer!"

Announcing a release date before even making the movie is always a huge red flag.

It's slate to go into production this fall.

Most movies take a year or two in PRE-production before going into production... Script writing, set design, location scouting, etc. And given that they set this fall as going into production, the script must be already finished and have large parts done on the other things.

Yes brother, I know ( I worked on sets) and that's isn't my point.

Make the movie.

Announce the release date.

Good point. I guess we'll see.

I think my point was that the others never had a production window ... Not even the Patty Jenkins one. So this one is giving me hope.

No it's not. If any other big franchise did it, you'd probably call it 'strategic planning'

Many major films, especially blockbusters or sequels lock in dates far in advance as part of long term planning. It's not automatically a sign of trouble

I know but I don't agree with that strategy. It comes over as a product instead of a creative vision. A product needs to be done in time.

A creative vision is done when ready.

I can ABSOLUTELY believe they are rushing this thing into principle photography with half a script. This thing is probably gonna be 80% cgi anyway so it will just be gosling acting against ping pong balls on sticks, giant green screen rooms, and a green cockpit set where he just does 50 versions of "oh shit, did you see what I just did or did not do?". They will then hack it together in editing and do a 1-2 month "totally normal and expected series of additional reshoots" to try to piece it all together.

Hope not, but Star Wars is a pre-production graveyard.

I'm disappointed that's it's not a X-Wing movie but the title of the film gives off the same vibe. I just hope it's a lot like the X-Wing book series by Micheal A Stackpole. I grew up reading those books when I was in Highschool and would await each new book with anticipation

BTW I'm a huge fan of Star Wars EU since it's one of the series that got me into reading

Mandolorian And Grogu looks good which is a pleasant surprise. I wasn't a fan of The Mandolorian Season 3

The fact that instead of prematurely announcing stuff, they are making sure the films are in production before they announce the films is a good thing in my book. I think that KK announcing too many things prematurely is what really hurt them in the long run. I have lot of issues with Disney Star Wars but we shall see if they can right this ship

The worst of the bunch for me

The Acolyte
Kenobi
The Last Jedi

If they keep on making stuff like

Rogue One
The Mandolorian Season 2 (Yes I'm being specific here)
The Book of Boba Fett (This one was good)
Andor
Skeleton Crew
Clone Wars Final Season
Visions Season 1
Tales of The Jedi

I'll be happy

For me Disney Star Wars Animation has been mostly miss for me. I did like Visions Season 1 but I haven't watched Season 2. I ended up dropping The Bad Batch. Compared to The Clone Wars, I felt this show was too kiddy for me. Not an insult but The Clone Wars eventually got darker the more seasons it went through. I did like that Tales Star Wars show. It was too short unfortunately and should have had more seasons. I'm not a fan of Rebels either and dropped that one Season in.

I still need to watch Tales of The Empire and Visions Season 2. Looking forward to watching Tales of the Underworld

I'm somewhat happy with Maul Shadow Lord. My issue is that will they censor Talon. Her Seductive nature is a big part of her character and I really hope they don't tone her down

Andor Season 2 is coming soon too. That's another one I'm looking forward to
