JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: The Animation |OT| Your next post will be... OH MY GOD!

Why can't Japan hurry up and get all major manga companies to jump on the digital bandwagon?

I really want to read part 4 in Japanese but I don't have the space for all of JoJo. And I live near a book-off so I'd be able to get most volumes for a cheap price... Baah. Maybe I'll get a couple volumes at a time and try to sell them back...

Can't wait for my blu-ray at the end of the month. Really want to see what the official translation looks like.

Subs on japanese BD usually very trashy. Still very appreciate it when I import something and its have eng sub, better than nothing.
I'd be fine with the raw but I'm curious. Also, the background English writing in the show with the newspapers and stuff so far has been just about perfect, which is a bit mind-blowing. I can't remember the last time I saw an anime with perfect English. Just hope that they get someone that good to do the subs, too.

Oh wow, the episode actually grossed me out at times, didn't really expect that.

Most importantly though, NEXT WEEK IS WHAT WE'VE BEEN WAITING ALL OUR LIVES FOR

JoJo 13

This episode was surprisingly uncensored, presumably because otherwise it would've been a black screen with audio for 20 minutes. *spoiler tags contain spoilers*
Stroheim nooooooooooooo :(

So hyped for Caesar next episode! And spaghetti battles!

Trudging through shitty Irish weather and shitty university exams, hoping in vain that I might reward myself with episode 13 upon returning home...

That's not how you do spoiler tagging.

Ep 13
Holy fucking shit! One of the great battles, Sugita is really channeling Gintoki into Joseph.

Stroheim is a true patriot although he's an asshole.

Anybody found it weird that these weapons came out of nowhere such as that dagger with the chain or that axe on the wall, seems weird a military has them.

Ep 13

Oh man, I missed this show last week. Amazing stuff. Thank you David Production and Araki for continuing to justify this as my #2 for 2012.

I really love how much content they're able to pack in one episode. On par with episode 3 in both battle length, variety and escalation. Sugita's excellent performance is icing on the cake. That scene
in the well
gave me shivers.

I laughed when Quickcaravan said Santana mastered their language. Clearly there will never be anybody who is as eloquent as you. Stroheim being a hero.

The episode was decent to good at times. I think what really holds the anime back from being consistently good is characters talk way too much. They say so much that I get infuriated at how they miss numerous opportunities cause they are too busy telling us what we can clearly see is happening at that which they are about to do.
Stroheim could have easily opened the door in time for example, or could have set the bomb off way earlier at least not causing Santana to get that close to the well
.

Joseph was amazing and really good and next episode hope the character teased in the opening finally appears, he has such great fan arts that Ive been hyped for weeks, best character design in the anime thus far (after joseph)

So bad it's good, I enjoy it a lot because it's comical. Just like the crazy poses that make absolutely no sense but are so fabulous that I can't help but laugh. The wackyness makes it great to me and I guess a lot of people in this thread.

Episode was fun, but I'm getting fed up with the anime/manga trope of narrating everything that goes on second by second.

That overexplaining stuff gets turned up to ridiculous levels in part 3, as well. I *do* enjoy part 2 Joseph telling everyone what they're about to do, though.

Same.

Problem is the show has no budget, so they're probably stuck with this route. The OVAs didn't have this issue; those were a more liberal adaptation as well as having 100x the budget, though.

I doubt it would‘vd made a difference with the first, and it‘s a good thing the second didn‘t happen because it wouldn‘t have done shit.

It‘s good that you look forward to Caesar, I have the feeling you‘ll like him.

"It's not good" ---> "Nah it's in the manga!"

That would be a non-sequitur.

Adaptations require change to suit a medium's strengths. Game of Thrones on HBO doesn't have the constantly running internal monologues of the ASOIAF POV characters. "BUT IT'S IN THE MANGA BOOK!"

I'm fine with explanations, it's just too obnoxious in this adaptation. It's a grating, yelling, high speed continuous narration of every moment by every bystander. Save the critical explanations and spare us the mundane ones so that we can catch a breather and actually look at what's taking place on screen occasionally. Again, though, they don't have much flexibility what with the $0.05 budget here.

I think it's the yelling it out that gets to me, too.

Remember, JoJo is a series that established a lot of the tropes for shounen fighting series. The hamminess and yelling explanations is just a part of the genre, or at least it was in the late 80s and early-mid 90s. Clearly not for everyone, but I personally wouldn't change it because I'd say it makes everything more epic even if you're less likely to take it seriously.

Fans of the Stardust Crusaders OVAs and no other parts of the franchise (except maybe the fighting games) will probably find it odd though.
