Not so fabulous people up in this thread! Just strike a silly pose or something:P I hope we get a second season of this adapting Stardust Crusader but with the cheese. Lots of it.

The hamminess is fine. The actual narration standing in for something like 90% of the action is, however, is not great. The manga had it because the medium required it- Araki's art is usually great but with the shit that goes down in Jojo explanation is sometimes needed. Here, it's just a 'necessity' due to the budget, and annoying due to how much time speech takes versus text; hard to blame David Productions for it, but it's still a sad flaw on an otherwise pretty good adaption.

The downside to removing the endless narration, of course, is I'm not quite sure what Part 1 Speedwagon would even do. So it goes.

Oh, uh

Episode 13

Nice.

And honestly it's needed in the later parts as the stands get crazy.

Without saying anything spoilery, let's just say that I'm sure this pic should speak for itself to anyone that's read Vento Aureo regarding that subject.

Which is probably why they removed Speedwagon in the Phantom Blood movie (that all of us who didn't see it at the theater in Japan at release are apparently never going to be able to...).

The power to confuse readers.

Steel Ball Run 1 comes out January 23rd in France but with 1 volume published every two months, it will take 42 months for the entire series to be published :((((((

That decision aside, the scraps of information from people who did see it suggests it might be for the best.

There are those first 16 minutes leaked online without any voices for anyone interested though.

Hey, at least that'll still be faster than it was reading it while it was still on going :P

With 0 SBR volumes being released every month in the UK, it will take ∞ for the entire series to be published.

At least we'll get the new edition of Stardust Crusaders, too.

Oh yeah, at first I thought I wouldn't go and rebuy them, but if I know I won't resist.

The J'ai Lu edition is good enough for me, but Tonkam books are so slick.

Sorry :( I'm just very excited at new Jojo.

New edition as in reprints, or fixed versions, or what?

Fixed versions/reprints. Some Jojo parts have been published years ago but it did not age well + it's impossible to find them now.
But... Stone Ocean sells like 150 (!!!) units per volume so I'm afraid this new edition will bomb hard.

Jojo began being published in France by J'ai Lu editions in 2002 up from part 1 to part 4, thing is J'ai Lu editions aren't really specialized in manga so Jojo was pretty obscure and didn't sell.

So J'ai Lu stopped published Jojo at the end of part 4 and the manga went on a hiatus in 2005.

In 2007, Tonkam editions, a publisher specialized in manga, decided to take over and published Golden Wind and Stone Ocean. Part 1-4 are pretty much very hard to find now, so Tonkam decided to reprint Part 3, and maybe Part 1-2 if Part 3 sells well (not so sure but let's wait and see).

In any case I don't think there were major screw ups in the original publishing, it's just that they're impossible to find.

I just hope they manage to sell SBR, don't want to see Jojo go on another hiatus :(

Damn...I'm just glad they're continuing with SBR to be honest. No wonder some Stone Ocean volumes are so hard to find, they must have a limited fucking run.

Didn't they originally split up the volumes and for example made Phantom Blood 7 volumes rather than the 4.8 it is with the wrong covers in the wrong volume (vol 5's cover is now vol 1 for example) and color pages as new covers where needed or was that somewhere else? I remember reading about that.

Reception

Due to negative reaction from fans and Hirohiko Araki himself, the film was never released on any home video format.
No official information was announced regarding the reason as to why the film was dropped. However many fans who saw the film have noted their opinion as to why the film was so poorly done. The main reasons include:

*The character, Robert Edward O Speedwagon, one of Araki's favorite characters, was almost removed from the story entirely, appearing only on the Ogre Street battle.
*The characters Poco, Dire, and Straights were also not featured. No fight occured between the protagonist and Tarkus and Bruford, as they were already dead. Naturally, this also means that Dire does not throw the hamon rose.
*The concept of Hamon was not explained clearly.
*The movie was too short (Approx. 90 minutes), condensed, and basically "destroyed the original story".

...wait, if there was no Tarkus and Bruford battle then what the hell ended up happening to Will?

No it's the normal publishing, the only difference is that volume 46 contains the final chapters of part 4 that are normally in volume 47 (since J'ai lu didn't intend to publish Golden Wind, they didn't want to finish the story on a cliffhanger, thank god)

waaaat, was this made by the same people who did the part 3 OAVs?

Hyped as fuck for the next episode. In the previews the pose that guy me hooked on Jojo looks like it's going to appear!

CAN'T FUCKING WAIT!

Straights? Araki would probably be offended, Wiki fanboys.

I always thought Araki not wanting to release the Phantom Blood movie on DVD was due to his (reportedly) big ego or something.

But man, how can you remove SPEEDWAGON from JoJo? He's actually really important to the overall canon, his individual awesomeness aside.

That's the name of the band, not the name of the character.
Straizo was named after Dire Straits, just like Zeppeli was named after Led Zeppelin.

You know that Straizo is a phonetic translation, right? Not a literal one. People tend to not understand that about Japanese.

Pretty sure Straizo is the official name, phonetic translation or not.

Straits is the reference, not the name. Just like(upcoming character spoiler
Esidesi is not literally called ACDC

It's "ストレイツォ", so the Hepburn transliteration of that name would be "sutoreitso".
"Straizo" is the official alphabet spelling.

I think the anime use "straits" spelling tho, and some magz (CMIIW) use "ACDC" (with alphabet letter) in seiyuu announcement back then.

I'm pretty sure the TV series never spelled that name in alphabet (or are you referring to English fansubs?).
As for the announcement, was that a translation you saw?

No, just by the sound of it.. I don't think its straizo, which implying the moon rune spelling just phonetic, once again CMIIW

Not the shopped one with character sketches, I saw it side by side with kanji for the seiyuu name or something. Its should up in character introduction webpage after next week episode btw if we really curious about the spelling.

"It's not good" ---> "Nah it's in the manga!"

That would be a non-sequitur.

Adaptations require change to suit a medium's strengths. Game of Thrones on HBO doesn't have the constantly running internal monologues of the ASOIAF POV characters. "BUT IT'S IN THE MANGA BOOK!"

I'm fine with explanations, it's just too obnoxious in this adaptation. It's a grating, yelling, high speed continuous narration of every moment by every bystander. Save the critical explanations and spare us the mundane ones so that we can catch a breather and actually look at what's taking place on screen occasionally. Again, though, they don't have much flexibility what with the $0.05 budget here.

I think it's the yelling it out that gets to me, too.

For the most part, I'd agree with you.

But I think the yelling monologues add to the zany charm of the whole experience.

It's like Japanese samurai yelling out their attacks, except the really long versions of them, that occur in this abstract temporal space, so that it may or may not have occurred.

King Crimson's ability is that it erases the perception of time and events/stuff you did-
Giorno holds cake in hand with the thought of eating it
KC ability begins
Giorno takes a bite of the cake
KC ability ends
Giorno still thinking on eating the cake, finds that there is cake in his mouth

At any rate, really happy with the fast pace, next ep. is gonna be awesome
