What reason would they have to tease part 3 with the protagonist unless it was to laugh at the fans when it doesn't happen?
Maybe because they would obviously like to continue it, but whether this actually happens depends on other factors. Just like all the games/movies/TV shows teasing a sequel/new season even if that ends up never existing.

Yeah, that sounds right. Hopefully it will happen.

Hey, what if this happens!

Part 3 is only shown as a clip show of important stuff and we skip to Part 4!

The franchise wiki gives the impression that Stands are an evolution of the Ripple. Is that the case?

At some point, yes, it's mentioned in the manga, but it's just a bunch of bollocks pulled out of Araki's fabulous ass.

The real reason is "I wanted to double the amount of poses".

At the beginning of Part 3 Joseph mentions that it's an extension of one's lifeforce and it's somewhat backed up but becomes irrelevant afterwards. It isn't that important anyway.

Technically ripple is very dangerous since it mimics the sun's power. With that said only Cars could totally use at high potential. At most you can only control stuff.

Well, with creativity it can be a weapon towards regular humans anyways. Not to mention there's kindof the fact that we've seen it used to knock someone unconscious and to stop a heart.

There's also its healing power too.

Stands are more interesting anyway.

I recently finished watching the old OVA's and am up to I think volume 9 of Stardust Crusaders and you are 100% correct. Stands are infinitely more interesting.

Also do the Stands in JoJo predate Persona? Because someone is copying someone haha.

Stardust Crusaders was 1989, so yes. It predates a lot of things.

Let's not forget Blue Dragon either!

All-Star Battle got a 40/40 from Famitsu, that's sort of news.

Haha, explanations.
My wife was showing me a picture of Okuyasu's pose from the game and explaining that he does it for no reason, and I was like "Yeah, sorry, nothing in Jojo actually happens for a reason, I'm pretty sure."

As purely an anime watcher, how do they explain the shift from the Ripple to the stands on the 3rd part?

Dio in Johnathan's body awakens his stand through the stone arrow.

Sets off a chain reaction where every Joestar descendent also develops a stand.

For everyone else they were already an existing concept. We just never saw them.

It started off that way. With Jotaro's stand weakening when he couldn't breathe vs abdul, but they moved away from that pretty quickly.

Probably after realizing that was one of the most limiting concepts of Ripple.

And I mean it doesn't make a lot of sense for Vampires like Dio being able to use an ability derived from Ripple.

Stand users still can't use their Stands if they can't breathe, though. I don't know if vampires don't need to breathe though honestly...
