A judge in Cleveland on Friday issued a temporary restraining order against Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump’s campaign and a GOP political operative, preventing them from harassing or intimidating Ohio voters.

U.S. District Judge James Gwin ruled in a lawsuit filed by the Ohio Democratic Party that anyone who engages in intimidation or harassment inside or near Ohio polling places would face contempt-of-court charges. Gwin dismissed the Ohio Republican Party as a defendant in the case.

The lawsuit claimed that the Ohio GOP, the Trump campaign, operative Roger Stone and his political action committee, Stop the Steal, were conspiring to suppress minorities in urban areas from casting ballots on Tuesday.

Craziest election since I've been alive.

People called Romanes they go the house?
Technically, isn't the restraining order active insofar as it applies to 'anyone who engages in intimidation or harassment inside or near Ohio polling places would face contempt-of-court charges.'?

Am I missing something, or isn't it an 'if-then' situation, rather than being barred from poll-watching UNLESS they start harassing?

They'll probably continue to do so just like how state and local Republican officials in several states have just straight up ignored rulings against IDs for voting.

I hope someone in Ohio has the balls to prosecute anyone violating this court order. You know trump morons will do a terrible job of getting around this and there will be reports of poll monitoring by them.

Good to hear at least something came out of the lawsuit.

So would the trump campaign be held accountable if something happens?

Polls usually have a "no heckling beyond this sign" posted. Guess now they will have to stay behind the line with the rest of the circus.

Why not make it a blanket-ruling for both campaigns?

Doing it against just Trump makes it look really biased. Why not avoid that and make it a blanket rule?

Because the Dem's aren't advocating for their base going out and doing it? It's still illegal for both sides, but only one is telling the voters to actually do it so this is a measure to prevent that.

You fucking know what...it IS biased, because the only shitheel trying to get their voters to actively sabotage and intimidate people voting for the other side is that orange piece of shit. Fuck Trump, fuck his supporters, leave everyone the fuck alone while they vote.

Because it was the GOP that signed on to never do this type of thing again in the 80's after they were taken to court by the democrats for NY election shenanigans and lost. It's the GOP that is specifically barred from doing this shit by law because they are the ones constantly cought doing fuckery in elections. Someone look up the case I'm on mobile. Maddow had a segment on it a last month too.

It is a blanket rule for both campaigns. Trump is the one encouraging it so of course the ruling is against him. If the dems did the same they would be ruled against as well.

Does this mean those idiots that show up to "protest" with their armed guns, that are really just intimidating voters will be charged and arrested? If so this is great news!

Hope this is in Virgina as well. We already had these idiots at a democrat office...

I hope It's Always Sunny does an episode where the gang tries to "stop voter fraud" at a local election

Dennis tries to get into the pants of a hot chick who ends up being some huge alt-right supporter and she invites him to come and "protect democracy" with her at the polls.

What the fuck, America, you need restraining orders to prevent candidates from harassing and intimidating voters??
How is this even a thing?! Why would you even want those people in office if they need restraining orders?!

What am I missing here?

They weren't restraining candidates themselves. You can't be hovering behind someone as they vote or close enough they feel threatened. There also rules that say campaign signs cant be displayed within X feet from a polling site too. Poll watchers also can't challenge another voter directly. it has to go to a voting official.
