Huh?

This case was about fufilling a FOIA request. The government objected, citing of all things, the GENEVA CONVENTION, and they got beat once they showed that the obsucring of faces and identifiable features would protect the privacy of the detainees.

This is part of a campaign to drum up enough of a public outcry that we can have a *real* investigation in the matter of detainee abuse. This isn't a matter of hunting scalps in the Pentagon's upper civilian and military ranks-although that's a nice bonus objective-it's about figuring out why these things were allowed to happen and how we can ensure that it never happens again.

Oh no, don't misunderstand me. I absolutely agree with you. However, there has been conservative rhetoric that the ACLU is being anti-american in this and that this is weakening america. I've, to my horror, heard more than one republican congressman call for the ACLU to lose its tax-exempt status over this. I was being glib.
 
Oy, sorry for not seeing the sarcasm. :)

I still get a chuckle at the "We Can't Release Photos of Geneva Convention violates because then we'd be in violation of the Geneva Convention". Bizzaro-land Republican logic-laws, treaties and rules are meant to be broken unless you can use them to defend yourself.

I have that song in my head every time I see Scott "Baghdad Bob" McCellean willing spew lie after lie to the American people. I knew it would take a special person to replace "Chemical Ari" Fleischer, and Scotty certainly is the guy.

Oh, and don't even ask what songs get in my head when I see Ken "Mandate" Melhman. ;)

Did you happen to catch "Meet The Press" this weekend? I don't know if it was a repeat or not but it was pretty current. Ken Mehlman was on. Suffice it to say that the session would have been fucking hilarious as parody. Sadly, it was not. It's like this administration read Orwell's "1984" and came away saying "Pfft. That's pussy shit!"
 
Between this and that whole shit were the reporter caught flak for having published pictures of the soldiers coffins coming back(which I actually thought were very tastefully done), I've concluded... that being Black being doesn't rate as high on my list of problems with this f'n country anymore... it's still up there... but well... you know....

I didn't watch the show, but I caught the CSPAN radio airing of Press the Meat with Timmay in the afternoon. Much swearing and anger ensued, which was a real pain because I was prepping the grill and the related foodstuffs while listening to it.

The whole Wacko Jacko/Martha Stewart/Paris Hilton obsession in cable news over the past six months has driven me crazy since there have been so many stores worth covering.
