"Possible prosecution" does not equal "extradition request", much less "conspiracy to bring him to Sweden to thereafter be extradited to the US illegally".
Giving out an extradition request NOW would be pretty stupid, even for common US behaviour.
I find it pretty fascinating that UK never had issues not extraditing pinochet for ages, but this time they even threaten to raid a foreign embassy, because of sexual assault accusations. Oh well.
You think the Taliban and Al Qaeda have been fighting a fair fight back? At least we have some "rules of engagement".. they have none. Of course the US is not perfect, who the fuck ever claimed we were?
US didn't fight Taliban or Al Qaeda in Iraq - where the video took place. Abu Ghraib was also not in Afghanistan. And even Afghanistan is not equal Taliban or Al Qaeda.
And what you are saying is that acting like terrorists is okay, if you fight terrorists somewhere in the world, right?
What kind of leverage does the USA have over a "liberal/democratic/left" country like Sweden, for its government to break with democratic procedures and judicial control, potentially losing a big portion of its young voters, to illegal extradite someone like Assange, a big public figure with a lot of goodwill (unlike say some Al-Qaida suspect)?
Losing their young voters? You got to be pretty damn young, otherwise you would have noticed that governments normally give a fuck about their own people unless it's the upper x percent. Voters have also no long-term memory, so it wouldn't matter anyway. Well, maybe there would be a few small demonstrations like the ones for Manning and the government would laugh about those. Let's look at the result of the anti-war demonstrations for Iraq. Did they matter? Did they change anything? Of course not, otherwise demonstrations would not be allowed. And you really think that extraditing ONE man, that was not even born in Sweden and is already a rapist in the eye of the public, would make a larger impact than those? You got to be kidding.
