Overcoming the odds again!

Probably because the 30% who voted are under 12 and only know and cheer for Cena on the list. The other 70% split the vote among everyone else.

Okay I just used my twitter to say that in the comments section. Now lets see if it actually gets though the moderation.

Edit: Wasn't Slaughter a Heel guest GM last time he was on TV?

Kids today know Sgt. Slaughter as that old guy who dresses as a G.I. Joe character on legends episodes.

Yup thats basically why he has so many votes. When kids see Dusty or Hot Rod they're like "lol who's the fat guy who can't talk and tries to dance" or Hot Rod is the pale old guy in a dress.

Pretty sad.

Wrestlemania 29 Travel Packages are going on sale later on this month. I'd reccomend getting one if you want a great seat to see John Cena defeat The Rock for the WWE title in the Wrestlemania Winter Classic. It's the only way you're going to be able to get a decent seat.

So I was just casually reading around on Wiki until I discovered this:

New Generation Era
Attitude Era
Evolution Era
Ruthless Agression Era
PG Era
People Power Era
Reality Era

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_WWE

Now I don't watch that much of wrestling anymore, but did people actually categorize things into this many eras or is this just something made up by era horny fans? Reality Era?

Companies often edit their own Wikipedia pages. Maybe the WWE wants the it to be called the Reality Era. It should really be called the Twitter Era.

It may not have been the last time he was on TV (they dig that terrible mother fucker up as often as possible), but yes he did do a heel Guest GM spot. This was in Calgary, Alberta, Canada and they had locally advertised the guest GM as being Bret Hart.

Instead we got Sgt. Fucking Slaughter, who spent the entire night shitting on Calgary + Canada. On top of that they gave us the "return" of Shawn Michaels, which came in the form of really long really unfunny taped segments with Triple H going to pull Michaels out of his cook job "somewhere in Texas".
They pulled a bunch of other shit like giving us "The Calgary Kid" (The Miz in a mask) vs Eugene in a WWE Contract on a Pole match and a pretty all around terrible fucking card.

The main event spot was John Cena vs Chris Jericho (who, as always in Calgary, was MEGA over). Instead of letting this match play out they cut it really short after Orton (who was feuding with Cena at the time) interfered. Then they let Orton and Cena team up on Jericho and double-finisher him.

It was essentially a night where the WWE went far and above out of their way to actively shit on their audience.

IMO I put it this way:

80 to 85: Second Golden Age
85 to 88: Second Silver Age
89 to 92: First Bronze Age
93 to 97: New Generation
97 to 01: Third Silver Age (Attude Era) - Cant truly be a golden age because there wasnt universal agreement who was the biggest heavyweight in that era. ECW was so much apart of making WCW and WWF change how they did business.
02 to 04: Second Bronze Age (First Transtion Phase - Botched)
05 to 09: PG Era (didnt start with Cena, UPN started censoring the Divas, Cena made it official in 08, we are still in the era but aspets have changed)
10 to Present Time: Post Modern Era/Reality Era (Second Transtion Phase)

To be complete - first golden age was mid 50's to the day Capital Split from the NWA and the first sliver age was from 63 to 80.

Those are the only eras I see. I don't see much difference in the programing to call it a new 'reality' era. And I don't know what an evolution era is.
Was there a singular moment that marked the beginning of the Attitude Era?

I would guess the Vince McMahon promo officially introducing it. But I don't know if it was already getting 'attitudey' before that.

OK, time to put down some wrestling history.

Most "wrestling historians" generally agree that the Attitude Era started during WM 13 in the Austin/Bret match (with Austin bleeding in the sharpshooter), and ended at WM 17 with Austin shaking Vince's hand.

It's funny but I've never thought of the Attitude Era being exclusive to the WWE until I posted that and remembered their branding change.

For some reason, in my mind I had "Attitude Era" associated with the resurgence of wrestling in the mid to late 90's.

So I guess what I was really asking was:

Was there a singular moment that marks the resurgence of wrestling in the mid to late 90's?

It's different for WCW and WWE. For WCW, it was the introduction of the NWO. For the WWE, it was Stone Cold winning the title at WM 14.

But can we say for certain whether WCW or WWF "fired the first shot"? Maybe not in terms of the Monday Night Wars but in wrestling becoming huge?

There's no real "one moment" where it just took off, and never looked back. For WCW, the NWO ushered in new fans over a gradual period, and for the WWE, Stone Cold's ascension brought in new fans and shit just exploded in 1999.

Thats why New Generation Fits - 92-94 was the years Misawa/Hart/Sting/Hashimoto won their first titles, but Attuide era was the second wave.

I also seem to remember something near the end of the show where Slaughter came out and apologized for messing with everybody by saying he had a huge surprise. And he was talking like he was about to introduce Bret Hart by using terms like "national hero" and such, and then all of a sudden Hacksaw Jim Duggan came storming out?

New Generation, Attitude Era, and Ruthless Aggression are legit terms used by the WWF/E in their respective years to mark a change in company direction. The rest are just fans naming them like some anime story arc, though the "PG Era" moniker will probably stick for obvious reasons.

I wonder if the PG Era has lasted longer than the Namek Saga?

Piccolo was DBZ's version of Kane.

Occasionally getting a push, but always putting over the young upcoming villain while staying over. Formed numerous tag teams, had a heart of gold (with an evil side), and got plenty of loving on the side from Chi Chi and Bulma. He also sacrificed himself for the betterment of the planet (just like Kane).
