Holy shit that was good, way better than the first two. Not many games can get such an emotional response from me, the endings was killer.

Though I missed the final dialogue after the credits, least the first half. Only part I caught was that it was Ocelot and they secured half of the Legacy. Anyone mind clueing me in on what he said at first.

Basically, Ocelot is a tool, just as he is, in every other MGS game. He's always working for someone else other than the one he appears to be. I believe in MGS3, like the other games, he is working for The Patriots. The Patriots took Ocelot away from his parents (The Boss, The Sorrow), and made him their own tool.

Wait, where did you find the information that Ocelot was The Boss's child? I know her child was taken away from her, but i never picked up anything that it was Ocelot

i don't remember it in the game, but it was revealed in a leaked script long ago...and the information is also revealed in some MGS3 book released in Japan

I think it's after Snake escapes from the prison... Actually it could be after the fight with The Sorrow. Anyway, it's hinted at during a codec convo with Eva.

Here's the part where Ocelots parents are revealed

Jack: EVA, I wanted to ask you about Ocelot…
EVA: Yeah, I know. He’s pretty infatuated with you, isn’t he?
Jack: That’s not what I meant. Aren’t the Ocelots an elite unit?
EVA: Yeah.
Jack: So how’d he get to be their commander? He can’t be any older than 18 or 19. I can’t believe he’s already a major…
EVA: I heard from the Colonel that he’s been given…special treatment.
Jack: Special treatment?
EVA: Yeah. He’s the son of some legendary hero or something.
Jack: No wonder he seems to have the right stuff… So who is this legendary hero, anyway?
EVA: Beats me.
Jack: …
EVA: The Colonel never told me. All I heard was that his mother was supposedly shot in the gut during battle and that he was born right there, with bullets whizzing past them.
Jack: A pregnant woman in the middle of a battle?
EVA: That’s what I heard. They say that when they stitched her up, the scar was shaped like a snake.
Jack: Well, that’s battlefield medicine for you. What about his father, this legendary hero?
EVA: He didn’t tell me. I don’t think Ocelot’s ever met his parents.
Jack: Are they dead?
EVA: Maybe, I don’t know. There were a lot of MIAs back then, during the last days of the war. Ocelot probably would have ended up the same way. But he was taken in and raised by GRU and Volgin.
Jack: Because he was special?
EVA: That’s my guess.

Call Eva after you fight Ocelot.

i guess i have to play the game again...

thanks for the info

It's hidden in a codec conversation like Vamp's sexuality in MGS2: Sons of Liberty. Snake tells Raiden that Vamp is...Bisexual I think? Not homo, but bi...I think.

D'oh, that's right.

I need to replay this again. I still need to do that dream thing.

How the heck did I missed that? And I always call everyone after something important happened...

Anyway thanks.

But yeah, Ocelot is always working for someone else...See chart below.

Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater- Ocelot is very young, and appears to be working for Volgun and the GRU, but instead is working for The Patriots.
Metal Gear Solid- Seems to be working for Liquid Snake and Foxhound, but as it turns out, he's connected to the President, who turns out to be Solidus Snake. He is also playing Solidus.
Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty- At first, he seems to be allied with the Russians, but he turns his back on them, kills Fortune's father, then appears to be working for Solidus Snake. At the end of the game, he reveals that he is working for the Patriots, but Liquid takes over his body, and steals Metal Gear Rex.

MGS2 was better. Thats right, bitches.

MGS3, while good, had some horrible "additions" (the clunky survival viewer with cure/camo etc., hitting "start" every 10 seconds = not fucking fun), and the story was dumbed down for the 'tards who couldnt follow MGS2. Oh, and the voice acting was not up to snuff. Hayter sounds like a caricature of himself, and the Boss = monotone.

I couldn't take The Boss seriously, i mean it's the voice of pearl from sponge bob squarepants.

Anyone mind clueing me in what happened in Metal Gear and Snake's Revenge and Metal Gear 2? Why did Big Boss go all crazy?

I believe the whole point of MGS3 is to show that Jack/Big Boss was screwed by the Boss, Fox unit and Eva all in one mission and as a result his interpretation of "loyalty" was heavily altered. Which is why he ends up doing whatever he does in MG1 and MG2.

She's also the voice of the news reporter on Family Guy....

When I was playing MGS3 and she would speak, I was like, "I know this voice" and so I looked her up on imdb.com and saw she did the family guy.

Also, I thought Ocelot
was working for the US Govt, or for the CIA more specifically

Most of the voices grew on me, particularly the Boss, but Hayter definately lacked substance or identity, trying too hard to keep that unnatural inflection active. In the grand scheme of things, it was hardly a dealbreaker.

That fit her personality. She really didn't show much emotion, so having her speak that ways works for her character.

I don't think The Boss ever screws Snake over. Through the game she was doing things to make sure her cover wasn't blown. She had to make everyone, including Snake, believe she actually had defected. So that included having to beat him up a few times to prove to Volgin that she did turn her back on her country. All through that though she was giving Snake plenty of chances to get out of there. She never injured him to the point of death, she knew how much he could take since she taught him everything he knew. So she she was being screwed over but she was going to stay and do what she meant to do. She knew that Snake was too attached to her to kill her if he knew what she was really doing which is why she had Eva tell him afterwards.

It's because of her that he turns though. Not because of what she did was bad, but because it made him realise how quickly he could be on the recieving end of that. She was the highest ranked soldier in the military and they just tossed her away and replaced her with him. The goal of what he was trying to do once he turned was to create a military where soldiers were respected and not where they were treated like puppets. He's not completely clean though, he does take over countries, which obviously means he kills innocent people in the process. So he's not really completely good or bad. But neither is the government he was working for originally.

This is exactly what Liquid and Solidus tried to achieve as well through their own means.. Liquid through the use of terrorism, Solidus through the use of ransom. Liquid had his nuclear bombs and Solidus had Arsenal.

Solid Snake has lost touch with the Government, as is evident in the ending of Metal Gear 2, to the start of Metal Gear Solid - but rather than turn violently towards them he instead just escapes away and does his own thing... hence Metal Gear Solid 2. It'll be interesting to see where he, and Raiden specifically, stand in MGS3.

I finished it for the third time last night. I played it twice last fall, started a third time using the tranq. on all the bosses to get their camo uniforms (besides the end, who I did the quick kill on), got to the up the Fury, and stopped playing until a few days ago. Do you get something for beating Volgin with the the tranq. gun? Other than that, I think I have all the camo's besides the end. I didn't even realize you could get one by going back to the locker where you hid Raidenovich. I need to get whatever downloadable camos that were released too.

what is wrong with you? You tranq everyone then skip The End? Tranqing him is the best part. Not only is his camo the best, you also get his tranq rifle (which is equally as awesome). You get a camo for every boss in the game (except the Shagohod) if you 'kill' them using the tranq. Playing the entire game only using Tranq weapons is the best IMO.

Oh good, I thought I was the only one who found the Boss's voice to be irritating.

I sort've loved killing her...

I don't remember seeing so many spoiler tags in one thread.

MGS3 = best ending in any video game ever.

Hands down. Beautiful ending.

I hadn't done the "quck kill" trick the first or second time through so I wanted to see it, and I was trying to get the total time down for a better ranking. I guess I got a reason to play a fourth time. :lol

Will Subsistence work with the game saves you already have or make you do everything over again?

I have a question, when you're stuck in the prison and paramedic tells you that if you wait too long dracula will come and eat you or something like that, what happens if you actually do it? I got out of there in a few attempts, didn't feel like waiting it out to see if anything happened.

Does anybody have good wallpaper of the final battleground? You don't have to post it here because of spoilers, but a link would be nice :). I've been looking for one forever.

If you save while in the prison cell Snake will have a nightmare where you get to play a little minigame/demo called Snake's Nightmare. You'll take control of a character who uses two swords to kill these demon cops, I believe the demo is on a timer though, its pretty short. Make sure to call your support team after the nightmare ends for some funny convos, especially Sigint.

I bought the game used about 3 months back and haven't even played it yet. I chose God Of War over this one to play first. Its good to know that MGS3 is another great one though,I'll get to it eventually.

Bought MGS3 and Digital Devil Saga at th e same time. Now I don't wanna start up DDS cause it's going to suck in comparison!

Most games DO suck in comparison to MGS3, but DDS is still damn good- you should give it a try...I wish i could keep playing it but i got burgled so i lost my ps2 (and savegames) :(.

If Substance is any indication, then no, unfortunately.

Don't worry. DDS is better than MGS3.

The theme song is also probably the best song ever written specifically for a video game, I still listen to it almost every day.

I wasn't too impressed with it, mainly cause it sounded like gold finger.
