Finally took the plunge and bought a Mac, despite being completely clueless as to how to use in and what I was getting myself in for.

Loving it so far, just wondering if anyone out there had some tips for a complete Mac newbie to make the most out of it.

Any programs I should be getting my hands on? The computer is completely fresh right now...

Also, I'm assuming its a resolution factor but the web pages I open only load half screen. That right?

Any advice appreciated, thanks.

If you haven't got AppleCare for it, get it now. Smalldog.com has a special, 3 years for $135. Special ends today.

I love Apple products but every so often they come up with a design that has a whole host of issues. The iMac G5 is one of them. At our company, we picked up three of the 17" models. We've had to replace the midplane on all three of them under warranty and in just the last week, I think one of them has a power supply that's going to go (spontaneous shutdowns).

They've had a model revision since then so maybe the problems have been fixed, but once you're out of the 1 year warranty, simple repairs can get mighty expensive. Keep in mind, while they are working, they are fantastic machines, quiet and fast enough for the heavy DTP stuff their users deal with. Just my 2 cents.

But my 12" iBook has been fucking bulletproof.

If you're on a wireless connection MacStumbler is great for testing connection strength etc.

Oh, might as well ask this here. What IRC client(s) are you guys using?
