I don't know why you all are just laughing off HiiLife's opinions.

I mean, why are you guys so racist towards white rappers? Lil Dicky the future GOAT, haven't you heard that song he saves money like a real smart dude instead of blowing it on drugs and cars and fancy houses?

People in here need to listen to the Ill Mind of Hopsin 17 so that they can learn how they should live and that these whack rappers like Thugga and Migos aren't the answer.

Yall looking for lyrics? Don't sleep on Hail Mary Mallon. Check out Bestiary.

Strange Music has some good artisits. Ces Cru def has some bangers.

It's about time someone cared about this genre as much as I do. Rap has been on life support for too long.

Your sarcasm isn't needed.

MGK's sophomore album sold 50K. Boy barely went copper and u are laughing at Kendrick asking for more sales from his home state, which is now sitting as his 2nd platinum record. Smh

I'm in a triggering mood so hip-hop gaf you may wanna stop reading right here...

^^^ Bad Things is not only the #1 song in the country it's also the best song of the year...and one of the best rap songs in years. I never liked rap music but Bad Things is one of my fav songs EVER! It's perfect....the hook is $$$ and the lyrics are cool.

MGK is a rap god. He's also humble and down to earth....seems like a genuinely nice person.

Edit..I follow him on instagram too.

Please take a seat. Bad Things is #14 on the chart. It's losing to J.Cole 3 times over, Drake and Rae Sremmurd as far as rap is concerned so not even top rap song in the country. 'Best rap song' in years is hyperbolic gabbage that has no place in a conversation

Nah man. I'm laughing because there's nothing funnier than an overrated rapper begging fans to buy a mediocre album. Also his feature with Sia was ass too.

Don't listen to him often much, if at all, but to hell with what critics say, he fucking killed it in this video. That's a really, really damn good live performance.

The fans rapping along just make it even better. He has excellent stage presence. Very fun to watch.

Lyrical Rap...MGK.....?

I guess I have to listen to more of his songs because that is not the impression I got from his music.

I am interested to hear the rest of your top 5.

I posted it last page but

Tech
Hopsin
Eminem
MGK
Hoodie Allen

No particular order of course.

We get it - you like rap music - but seriously, broaden your musical horizon before you say something like that. Seriously, that isn't even a top 20 rap song this year. So much great music out there, and you pick THAT song? You do know that Bowie released an album this year, right?

From the sound of it you probably listen to rappers like Young Thug. Be thankful we have MGK, a beacon to look up to. Rap needs this.

There's nothing wrong with being enlightened. G Eazy is slept on.

Come back to us when you've listened to rap for more than 3 months, then you may see how laughably bad your opinions are.

This thread should be re titled "OP has been listening to rap music for a few weeks now . . ."

Tech and Eminem are the only respectable rappers on this list. You have to be either incredibly stubborn in not expanding your rap horizons, or just have kaka taste to put hoodie allen, mgk and hopsin all in a top 5 list. 1 is enough pause of the applause, but all tree o'dem? Overkill.

EDIT: Honestly more thankful in being trolled than knowing a real list like that exists

Well it's not surprising people are pretty closed minded to music. All throughout high school and most of college I listened to underground rap and 90s rap and hated most of the "new school" stuff even though I never actually listened to it.

Over the last few years I have expanded my horizons and there are plenty of good artists out right now.

I mean, I don't hate MGK, but like...does anyone think this song is popular for anything other than the Camila parts?

Give me . . .

1. Kendrick - definitively. there are no questions. His lyrical dexterity is impressive

2. Danny Brown -Witty/humorous lyrics while expanding the sound of rap into new territories. This guy has found his sound mixing rap with post-punk, and it delivered a sound we've NEVER heard in rap, to my knowledge.

3. Thugger - His lyrics may be pretty cut and dried, but his vocal delivery is genre pushing. His presence and charisma is almost second to none right now.

4. Run The Jewels - Incredible presence, incredible charisma playing back and forth each other, hard hitting beats. Just don't have that "MASS APPEAL"

5. Kanye - Say what you want about his rapping abilities, he has a presence on the mic, and with pretty much every song he's ever made, it has a distinct sound that lets you know "This is Kanye's track." Pretty charismatic presence on the mic, good lines every so often, and some of the best production in the genre because it's all coming from his brain.

Honorable Mentions to
Andre 3000 - Maybe he doesn't put out much music anymore, but he proves to you why he's still a GOAT every time he features on a track

Q-Tip - Did you listen that Tribe album? So many insightful comments that no other rapper could make, still weaving in and out of the beat, presence, and still silky smooth.

Anderson Paak - Do we consider him rap/hip-hop or R&B? Got damn that boy had the best show I went to this year, and I saw Swans, Kanye, ScHoolboy Q, Mac Demarco, Father John Misty, Ben Folds, and motherfucking Kraftwerk.

People who are slaves to the person with the "best lyrics" really don't understand the genre at all. Tech 9 has great lyrics and all, but his presence is awful and he has no charisma. It's not JUST about the lrics
