There's seriously not enough Asian representation on gaf, there's so many "Eastern culture experts" on this board.

This is my favorite one:

You wish it were that simple. I like that some of you think you know the first thing about what I think/feel about this particular issue based on a couple of posts which give you no real context or insight into the real-world discussions I've had (you know, the ones that actually matter), or the opinions I've formed based on my own experiences in Korea (but like any of that matters to you, Peru. All that matters is that YOU lived in Korea. Fuck me for having some of my own perspective.)

You forget that I mentioned that I was once close with the EatYourKimichi crew who, as foreigners, are at the forefront of analyzing and digesting K-pop culture for the international fan base. The discussions I had with them about how this stuff gets made and the kind of people running the show was eye-opening, to say the least.

Never lived in Korea, was friends with a "crew" of foreigners who "opened his eyes" to what was going on there. ayy lmao

Care to respond, in detail, to the points made in both my own post and the Harvard Crimson article?

Or would you rather throw out one lame-ass cop out response after another?

"Sweeping generalizations"

"One of the good ones"

Please, fuck out of here with that shit. The K-pop GAF hive mind already ran those into the ground. You've got the Harvard Crimson waiting...more reading, less cliched responses.

I don't think you understand my involvement here. I don't have a horse in this race. I'm not into Kpop. I just think that vilifying fans of a genre of music of all things is some "lol anime avatar" tier superiority complex bullshit. Believe it or not, people can like something and not be a terrible person because of it.

But please respond, in detail, about how Kpop just shot itself in the foot. I've come to understand that you're an expert.

Media Reporting: Make shit up on insufficient information to get the clicks.

Works 100% of the time (80% of the time). Forums like this one eat that shit up and send each other into a frenzy clicking on the article.
In this case you can blame the management for noise marketing. The management came out with the whole sexworker thing.

A Visa is required for performers even under the waiver program. They might have been fine if all they had planned was the event. But they are required to leave right after the event. The photo shoot is probably what fucked them over.
Ah, didn't know about the exception. Well, makes the case of management fucking up or maliciously trying to circumvent proper visa requirements more clearer.

You'd think in 2015 you could easily clear such a thing electronically. Ah well.
They don't want you to do that. Because that means there is literally no reason to file proper papers. You just fix it when you arrive if you get caught at all.

This topic went completely crazy O. O. I just wished people wouldn't generalized kpop. Ive been listening to the stuff since I was 15 when the Internet barely started taking off. There's many other artists not just the typical let's quote girls generation, miss a, fx etc. There's other kpop acts like cool, koyote, Kim gun mo, even sobancha and they are from the 80s, so chan wee, Lee jung hyun to name a few. All you have to do is listen to what you like and that's it, plus everyone should realize pretty much all music is manufactured anyway.

Are you saying you were into kpop before it was popular?

Do Korean women treasure their bodies more than those western wenches?

Yes. Surgery everywhere. The second floor of my hotel had a coin laundry and a plastic surgery clinic (seriously) so it is clear they are just maximizing their body's potential.

In the West who knows what degeneracy I would have seen instead. Probably a Krispy Kreme and heroin injection facility.

Wow. Kawaii. Maybe South Korea is actually the Best Korea.

Your bus is leaving. It's the one that encourages you to read more.

My wife and I lived and worked in Busan (yes, that's the second largest city in South Korea) for five and a half years.

Must have misunderstood.

So you would say that you know about Kpop culture? Maybe that you're an expert?
