But does this really count as surprise release now that we know about it? It kind of defeats the purpose. If you announce the album is coming, people are going to watch for it. We know he's working on it. He has already put out a few prototypes to gage the audience. His name is out there once again, so if it (say) was to come out tomorrow, it wouldn't be a surprise.
See, pulling a Bey required a lot of denial for that to even happen. It felt like one huge lie that was turning into a joke. It was completely undocumented until it dropped. No one could find her filming. No on could find and writers, job postings, song credits...nothing. No producers were talking. It was air tight until it dropped. That's what made it work.
Drake's, despite being sort of set up to be a surprise considering the circumstances, worked well in his favor because his audience really wasn't expecting any album from him until a whole other year amid all of Cash Money controversy.
I hope he does come out with an album, but I'm not going to be surprised when it drops. I know it's going to now so yeah. I'll just wait for it.
