Kanye West announces new design company called DONDA

Prediction: this company will either be shuttered or defunct in three years, as Kanye moves to whatever next shiny object grabs his attention

Ambition is great and all, but being practical, realistic, and humble are also good things.

Not sure what humility has to do with anything.

It's not like practicality won't come into the picture once it's up and running. Shit, it has a pretty broad focus anyways, what the company will *actually* do *if* it materializes will be interesting. Kanye has always been a vision-first-method-after kind of person. He has many endeavours that have fallen flat, but a risk taker is exactly the man you want at the top. I certainly hope management is one of the 22 divisions.

Lol @ Saty coming into this thread just to vent hate at Kanye. Good look, homie. Very contributive.

Saying he is overrated and a shitty rapper but good producer is venting hate? Do you seriously have your head that far up his ass? If anything I was commenting on the people whining about how poor Kanye is so hated on GAF, when the reality is the sycophantic fans like yourself make that an outright false statement. It's like someone claiming GAF is chock full of Nolan haters. There might be some, but you'd have to ignore the constant worship of the man by a significant portion of GAF to think that there are nothing but haters around here. Same thing with Kanye. I've seen the WTT and MBDTF threads. You can't fool me, son.

People liking Kanye more than you bothers you this much? Damn man, chill out :p

Saty what did Kanye ever do to you bro?

I mean shit you even came into my Gil Scott-Heron thread for his death just because people were commenting that they heard of Gil Scott-Heron from Kanye's stuff. People are allowed their opinions but damn.

I don't care who likes what. I just think it's funny that a few people saying Kanye sucks makes a bunch of you go into "LEAVE BRITNEY ALONE!" mode.

All I said was that it's a shame that some people only know Gil Scott because of a shitty song where Kanye sampled him. Gil Scott was a musical genius and is largely forgotten and unknown whereas Kanye shits out mediocre drivel and people act like he's the second coming of Mozart. Just a little sad to me and worth noting.

I can understand that sentiment, and I've actually felt it before, but I had to realize that people learning about great artists is a positive, no matter what path was taken to get there.

The thing is, I really doubt even 1% of the people who heard that Kanye song ever bothered to see who the sample was from, or check out anything else by him. Gil Scott's music is the antithesis to the kind of vapid nonsense they want to hear.

My beef in that case isn't even with Kanye. It's with the ridiculously narrow tastes most people have.

You would be surprised. In all honesty that's how I've always seen samples. If they're interesting enough in a hip-hop track, I always try my best to check out the original material. I thank hip-hop for introducing me to a lot of Funk and Soul acts, for example, that I would have never have even heard of if not for the sampling of certain producers. I would have never heard of Marlena Shaw if not for her being sampled in Ghostface's Apollo Kids album, I would have never cared to listen to Funkadelic if not for some of the samplings in the G-Funk era, etc...

You can't fault people for their own preferences, and unfortunately I can't speak for others.

What the fuck...

I wasn't necessarily endorsing the album in that way personally, but that shouldn't be a shocking statement. It reviewed better than any other album last year, and any non-reissue this year. Fuck critics or whatever, but the conversation regarding that album has been very, very positive.

I'm not faulting anyone for their preferences. People can like what they want and that's cool.

I just think it's a shame that great music (Gil Scott) is basically forgotten and ignored, meanwhile shitty music (Kanye) is revered as the greatest thing ever. Why is it such blasphemy to say I think Kanye sucks? Are you telling me you never express negative opinions or say someone or something sucks?

Trying to google news about this and the quote just links back to this post??

The woman you linked to is from show back in October.

I never said it was blasphemy nor did I ever fault you for having your own opinion, lol. Throughout my tenure in Gaf-Hop, I've dismissed several, in my own opinion, sub-par lyricists.

I just thought it was interesting and off-taste to go on a tirade about it in a thread dedicated for the memory of a great mind/poet/artist.

Pretty much, if something is slightly related to Kanye he enters to shit on Ye irregardless of what the actual topic's discussion is about. In this case, DONDA. Thread derail complete.

Just look at his reply to my post. That is some real raw, heartfelt dislike of Kanye and Kanye fans right there. I wonder what Ye/we did to unearth such. It definitely reads as venting and is pretty out of place amongst the rest of this thread.

Gil Scott was a revolutionary, baby. I think my "tirade" in his tribute thread was apropos to his character and principles, to be honest. Your thread dedicated to the passing of one of the greatest musicians ever got 50 replies total. 50. And a lot of those were from repeat posters. Kanye's death thread would probably get 50 pages in 2 days.

Sometimes you just gotta let old men yell at clouds and say you damn kids don't know shit.

LOL. One instance in the Gil Scott thread, and now this thread = every time Kanye is mentioned I appear?? Did you see me post in the MBDTF or WTT threads? I think those are both shittastic albums but I never posted in either of them. I see you and the other stans fellating Kanye in the GAF-Hop thread at least 3 times a week and I never say anything about it.

Nice persecution complex you got going.

That's some strong hate from Satyamdas...
Please. This isn't even level 2 hate. I save my real shit for clowns like Lil B and Wayne.

No, whenever there are Kanye mentions in GAF-Hop especially you do show up to spread the same stuff, it's just more permissible in GAF-Hop, I suppose. I try not to involve myself in Kanye discussion there much anyways, because it usually just brings out the kind of nonsense you post, not necessarily from just you either. And it's not like everything that's possible to be said hasn't been already said about Ye in GAF-Hop. It bores me, that's why all I've really posted are the Voyr episodes as of recent, in relation to anything related to Kanye. I do this because I know people are annoyed with Kanye talk because they just cannot stand people liking Kanye. But yeah, keep assuming things.
You are wrong. I purposefully avoid responding to anything about Kanye in the GAF-Hop thread precisely because there is already too much Kanye talk in there and I have nothing to add to any discussion about him. I know he has tons of fans in that thread and I would not want to have 50 people responding to some comment I made and making a fuss in there. So I don't do it.

And in this thread I was just observing that even with a ton of Ye stans here, all it takes is a handful of "Ye sucks" comments for you guys to go into "OMG SO MANY HATERS OF MY FAVE ARTIST OMGWTF" mode. You guys have serious persecution complexes about Kanye but that is not really surprising considering who you are stanning for. I know it's putting my hand in an angry beehive to say that you guys are mad sensitive about Yeezy but I don't give a fuck. It's just an observation holmes.

But this discussion is going nowhere anyways. It's okay if you don't like Kanye, and I apologize if I offended you by being a fan.

Well, I can't argue against it's lack of posts. What can I say, not a lot of people around here knew of Gil Scott-Heron or maybe not have knew him by name.

Nevermind that I even bothered with this conversation, lol.

"@kanyewest i was the one who made this, do i have a job?"

Tweeted him that as soon as i saw him start talking about donda

Considering I thought this would be about him embroiding his initials onto underwear and selling them, I'm pleasantly surprised.

The Dutch school of thought in design is to have many disciplines under one roof, and it's very successful ... creatively successful.

It's rather tasteless to go in a news topic about a person trying to make a positive difference in the world and then say that he sucks.

Alot of Kanye Stans? I see people in here that dont really, or only kinda like Kanye in here. This isn't about his music though.

This isn't completely related but I have to admit that I have a HUGE crush on Kanye West. For some reason I felt like I had to tell someone. So there.

I feel better now.

GAF has a 50/50 split on people who like and don't like Kanye really. He's annoyed that there are a lot of Kanye fans on GAF who express their fandom, in which case there are a lot.

So what you're saying is that I'm kinda like Kanye when he tastelessly interrupts people's award acceptance speeches?

Also, fucking lol @ "trying to make a positive difference in the world". Ahhh, to be that naive again.

This is the 3rd time you've repeated the same bullshit, and it's still incorrect. I don't care what you like. I don't care that you express fandom. I read the GAF-Hop thread daily despite the nonstop Kanye stanning in there. It doesn't bother me.

All I commented on was the fact that a handful of "Ye sucks" comments puts you guys in such a tizzy. Your persecution complex amuses me. Your hypersensitivity amuses me. Period.
