Mehh, I liked MBTDF and some tracks on Watch the Throne.

But these two songs are kinda wack as fuck.

Aiight I like the beat on the last 2 minutes of Mercy. That's about all I can say on this shit. They weren't even trying.

Mercy is pretty hot after a few listens. Pretty raw feeling on the beat for the most part, similar to WTT. I dont know if any album will ever give me the same feeling as when I listen to MBDTF. Album was unreal

I can understand the confusion though. His musical style overall, whether it be what he produces or what he raps over, has changed dramatically.

It seems like every style has had a theme thus far though, right?

Graduation-electronic
808's- Autotune/electronic
Dark Twisted- Gritty/rock

Throne-?

Maybe, but it's not just the beat imo. His whole style has changed with WTT and now GOOD Album. He's become this badass rapper dude who brags about everything. I'm ok with it, just pointing it out. I did prefer his lighter music though.

Really miss the soul samples/chipmunk era of Kanye... man Kanye/Just Blaze/Heatmakers... that was an era to remember.

The whole industry (at least, mainstream) is moving away from samples partly because copywright law is horrible fucking swamp now. You can delay your album just clear them, and when it does ship, you'll still get sued.

That was quite a problem back in the day as well... I remember hearing one Dipset track by Heatmakers that sampled a theme from "Coming to America", was hype.. than the album came out and the sample didn't clear and the interpolation was nowhere near as good. So many good tracks were left on the shelf because of these issues.. Freeway's best song by far in Night Shuft which was done by Just Blaze.. and so many others.

So yeah I can see why they made the shift... but damn I miss those days.. Kanye and Just Blaze (he still alive? lol) as well haven't been anywhere near as good since.

Damn Mercy is great, besides Kanye's verse and beat change. wtf.

I'm not a fan of the beat change either.

I know Ye really fucks with those switch ups and stuff, but it's so out of place, unlike on WTT IMO.

I can see why people would dislike both Theraflu and Mercy though, Mercy especially is different from Kanye, moreso than just a new style.

I'm really having trouble liking the direction he seems to be sticking with.

I don't know if the term is overproduced but I really wish we had some pre-808's (Not hating 808s) Kanye production/lyrics in the future.

It's bumming me out.

Edit: Didn't realize he didn't produce them, please disregard ha.
