Kanye West: 'If I Don't Win Album Of The Year I'm Gonna Have A Problem'

He also refers to Mariah Carey regarding the grammies, lol:

Kanye on Mariah in a Grammy article:

"No disrespect, but I feel that I should win. The hardest part is that me and Mariah are up there together because our votes could cancel each other out," he said. "I need to use the Jedi mind trick, you know, when you're eating a sandwich and someone says, 'Yo, I'm hungry,' and you say, 'Well, I would give you the other half, but then I would still be hungry, so why not just let me eat?' So Mariah, let me get some and we can celebrate together.".

I wouldn't call Kanye's music mediocre. He may not be your cup of tea, but he's hardly mediocre. He's released two quality albums so far, and has produced more than his fair share of great joints. Both albums have gotten tremendous critical and commercial success. The guy just has a strong need to achieve and has a propensity for speaking his mind that makes TO look almost soft spoken in comparison. Not surprising that he rubs some folks the wrong way with those kinda traits

QFT. By all the markers that there are in music, he's hit them. He's going to be remembered for a long time whether you like him or not. 1 Album to hit those marks could be a fluke, but for 2 to do so. Well, you may not like him, but you can't really call him a hack, or "mediocre".

As for his contract, if you're spending 20 million dollars on samples, then you just aren't going to recoup that cost. Chances are if you're a recording artist, your contract is shitty, unless you're on your second contract where you have something to leverage at the table.

I'm really not sure which albums you guys are listening to. To be honest, I've only heard part of his first album (all the singles and a couple other songs) but Late Registration....isn't very good. What exactly makes Kanye so great? I much prefer the Cage or DangerDoom albums as far as rap this year goes.

kayne west is a total fucktard. flip your collar down and take off the aviater sunglasses maverick. i wish someone would break his jaw again so he couldnt talk for another year

When Muhammed Ali does it, he's the greatest athlete in the history of sports.

When Kanye does it he's laughed at, and called an idiot.

You just compared Kanye West to Ali for crying out loud. In case you didn't know, Ali's fights aren't subjective. He either won or he lost. Taste in music, that's subjective. Kanye West isn't the greatest, and who's to say he put more blood sweat and tears into his work than any other msuician out there?

Anyway, he's corny Next.

i don't usually wish death on anyone. but i truly hope this guy takes a dirt nap REAL SOON.

Kanye can talk shit all he wants if it brings us albums like Late Registration.

i've heard at least 100 albums better than Late Registration.

the dude can't rhyme worth shit. his speech impeded lyrics and wack flow are going to be a thing of the past once the hype surrounding him wears down. he's going to be as memorable as hammer and vanilla ice. has beens that were trendy to listen to at the time.

it's sad that kanye represents hiphop of today.

I can't believe you compared kanye to guys like hammer and Vanilla Ice. Now if you had said 50, i might have agreed with you

ha you should have seen the applause Hammer got at the last BET awards show. That place went nuts when he started dancing.

his production is top notch, his lyrics are so-so but his subject matter is much better than the norm, and his flow is good but not great.

he has made 2 great albums but i agree that he needs to shut his mouth.

and comparing him to ali is beyond retarded since ali was generally known as the best in the business. kanye is neither the best rapper nor producer. but he is one hell of a combination.

First off, we're talkin about Russel Crowe, not Michell Pfeiffer, so the mind in question was Beautiful, not Dangerous. :)

Second off, Denzel really didn't deserve that award. Will Smith SHOULD have gotten it for Ali, but the movie was by and large flat and unemotive, so they gave it to Denzel for Training Day.

Denzel deserved the award. Why? Because I said so.

Thanks for the correction BTW...fuck Crowe and his beautiful mind.

That's because Hammer was fucking REAL.

Seriously, I can still listen to Please Hammer and 2 Legit...they were just fun albums.

Fucking whiner. Kayne will be recording "Through the Wire, Pt 2" immediately proceeding him and I occupying the same room at the same time. Actually, the song may end up entitled "From a Coma".

What the fuck do you know about hiphop? Kanye West is doing what hiphop has been about since its inception... shameless self promotion.

You have to understand where the guy is coming from:

He busted his ass for years making free/bargain basment beats for artists that often turned into hits.

One day he decides to go home after a hard day at the studio. Next thing you know, he gets into a near fatal car crash.

He survives, and manages to pitch the idea of a preppy, middle class, black male being a hit rapper to Damon Dash, who's label Roc-a-fella, has only been pimpin' eastcoast hustler music.

He goes on to sell MILLIONS of records with MINIMUM backing by Roc-a-fella. All the while being one of the most demanded producers of his time.

Not to mention he's resurrected Twista and Common's careers.

Of course he's cocky. If I did all that shit, and on a regular basis proved I was one of the best, you can bet I would do a little bragging.

Heh, that was pretty funny...

in a not so funny, really stupid, kinda way.

Truth be told, if you were in the same room as Kanye West you would be brought to your knees for you would be in the presence of a music god.

To all the haters and nay-sayers: Who gives a shit what you think. Honestly, I'm pretty sure Kanyeezey doesn't. I think he said it best in "Brand New"

Kanye West said:
They say your attitude determines your latitude
I'm high as a motherfucker - fly as a motherfucker
And still the motherfucker you love to hate
But can't - because you love what I make
Now ain't - that about a bitch
And I'ma talk shit until I'm out of hits

They don't want to turn they speakers up they claim I ain't deep enough
All that talkin' I feed off of - keep it up
I'm relaxin' my feet is up - I'm leavin' you haters
Like when Shaq left the Lakers just to "Heat" it up
I state the stats to stunt - I don't need to front
I make black history e'ry day - I don't need a month
The survey says - by the streets according
Kanye's just important as Michael Jordan
Was to the NBA when he was scorin'
Ralph Lauren was borin' before I wore him and..

The funny thing is that you dweebs on GAF were pimpin' this dude HARD when he first came out. So a man makes a little change and sells a hot million records and all of the sudden he's a dumbass? A rapper has to stay broke to stay good? Pure unadulterated BULLSHIT! You guys are haters in every sense of the word. Shame on you all.

Rappers have always been cocky. With some exceptions, thats what rap has always been about since its inception. Guys self promoting and talking about how great they are, how many girls they get, how much money they have, ect..

It should be noted that John Lennon, Robert Plant and Mick Jaggar (among a score of others I'm sure) were all convinced that their bands were the greatest of all time. And why not? You could make pretty solid cases for all three of them. Of course no one would dare call them arrogant, and in death John Lennon's gone from being a wife-abusing, weed-puffing prick to a peace-loving visionary. :lol I guess Kanye needs to get shot outside his own apartment to get the same revionist respect in 25 years.

Again, Kanye does talk a little too much. But with ten times the media that existed two decades ago and the ability to get instant quotes, we're gonna hear his junk a hell of a lot more then a Lennon or Plant from years gone by.
