Yeezus has ascended to a whole other state of being with this interview. Dude can coherently put thoughts together and is looking out for everyone and the isms that may affect them. ;_;

Am I reading the same interview as some people in the thread? Kanye seems fine here. Unless this is some more 'I hope Kanye dies in a fire because he said something i didn't like' nonsense.

Still imagining what a glorious clusterfuck the Swift collab will be though.

Surprisingly nice interview. I love Kanye's older shit but every thing post MBDTF is just a fucking joke. 4-5 Seconds is terrible and it bothers me that people are going to make money off of that single. There is literally nothing impressive about it. Not much in the eyes of a production. Just Paul playing simple guitar chords over and over. Rihanna singing a decent bonfire chorus and Ye spitting maybe 8 terrible "bars". If you want to call it that.

Not taking anything away from his career. Kanye is damn good and I respect him. I also love Rihanna and am pretty diverse in my musical tastes. This whole worshiping of Kanye just always baffled me. You all can have your opinions but man I just don't get it, lol.

tl;dr: I don't understand how people are still on Kanye's nuts.

I must be one of the few people who thinks Kanye is honestly a nice guy deep down. He just kinda gets full of himself sometimes and goes off. It's not easy for people to hear when they're in an industry that is mostly hugs and kisses most of the time. He just speaks his mind when most don't. I don't condone what he says and I feel like most of it is nonsense, but I genuinely like him.

Yeezus was mediocre though.

He speaks his mind without actually thinking before he speaks. Resulting in him telling two different stories in the third person, none of which accurately reflect his actions. If he actually backed up any of the nonsense he talked he'd be like any other self respecting musician by not trying to constantly garner media attention to get into the public eye. Dude has sold out in every way imaginable and is an integral cog in the machine that he allegedly hates or thinks is a joke. It's walking around with shit on your face 101.

Kanye is saying he's John Lennon?

Music's subjective, but that's as dumb as when John said they were bigger than Jesus.

At least Lennon had a point in saying that Christianity was in decline among children in England. Lennon said the Beatles and popular music were more important to kids than organized religion.

He did say Rock N' Roll would outlast Christianity which seems to be wrong.

Kanye has delusions of grandeur.

No, Kanye has never had a history of beating women.

He hasn't had a history of making anywhere near the quality of records Lennon has made either.

Lennon was a better singer.
Lennon wrote close to 30 #1 hits during his short career.
Lennon and the Beatles sold are the #1 or #2 selling act in every decade since 1960.
Lennon has had a much larger impact on fashion than Kanye West.
Lennon and the Beatles had a much greater cultural impact than Kanye West.
No one else besides Chuck Berry and Elvis Presley has influenced popular music as much as the Beatles.

MBDTF is a great record, but you can't say that Kanye is close to Lennon in terms of overall impact on music. Lennon hit women. That makes him a dick, but that doesn't make Kanye a better artist than him. Even Kanye West was steering clear of comparing himself directly to Lennon.

Why does an artist that considers the Grammys to be a joke go to the Grammys? He's so edgy!

Same reason everyone on GAF probably clicks to see what IGN's game of the year is.

Actually he hasn't gone in several years so this time it was probably just to perform

Yeah he really sold out with that mainstream Yeezus album.

It's a promotional vehicle. Look whose record is at the top of the iTunes Best Seller list. If it didn't increase the sales of recorded music, then it wouldn't exist. The Grammy's also have a history and prestige that can still sell records and guarantee future appearances.

Oh, most definitely. He seems like a really cool guy. Some people just can't stand anything that goes against the grain, and once they start disliking something, they'll actually go out of their way to dislike it even more at any opportunity. Not sure why people are like that, but they are. I suppose it helps them feel better about their own insecurities.

Who's "artistry" is going to shine in this collab? Is Kanye going to go 808s on a Taylor Swift pop-country beat, or is she going to sing a hook on his stripped down productions? I can't imagine how this would work.

In the beginning of his career, he produced quite a bit of pop and R&B. But he's produced very little for other artists in recent years.

Here is Oozer3993's Recommended Listening List for Pop Slash R&B Produced By Kanye West:

Britney Spears - Me Against The Music (Kanye West Remix)

Alicia Keys - You Don't Know My Name

Brandy - Talk About Our Love

Maroon 5 - This Love (Kanye West Remix)

John Legend - Used To Love U

Fall Out Boy - This Ain't A Scene (Kanye West Remix)

John Legend - It's Over

Mr Hudson - Supernova

Drake - Find Your Love

Please don't disappear into the dizzying depths of the Kanye Vault™ like the Miley Cyrus collaboration.

Doubt anything will actually come of this, remember when Miley was all the rage after her VMAs appearance and supposedly she was in the studio with Kanye that very night?

Kanye gives inner city youth hope. Inner city youth could give two fucks about a Lennon, Yoko or Elvis.

It's cool Lennon did all that, I'mma let him have that, but he beat a few chicks and never apologized. He ain't shit to me, he's worse than Chris Brown and Dr. Dre combined.

angelus just trying to get 'em all riled up again lol.

lennon's a genius. moreso than kanye of course though i think yeezy is doing some of the most interesting stuff in the rap-game right now. always look forward to an album from him, he's been on fire since that piece of shit graduation.

if we only listened to music and watched film by nice guys then we'd deprive ourselves of some really great shit.

Meh, Lou Reed has a better catalog then Lennon. He's a big Ye fan so by the transitive property...

The Kanye/30STM collab that ended up being unreleased is worth listening to as well. Hurricane I believe.

Nobody ruins my family vacation but me...and maybe the boy!
That's not what he said at all.

People suddenly love sensationalist journalism when it's talking trash about Kanye.

Please enlighten us, what did he mean when he said

“(I boycotted the Grammys for) six years... I will not go (again) until I sit with Neil, sit with Jimmy Jam and fix the voting system to be more in accord with the popular votes because popularity is what is needed to sell commercials... A revolution of inspiration can only be had when the older generation combines with the younger generations.”

I think we need a clear understanding of what the Grammys are meant to be for. It doesn't seem to be the Oscars award show for music, which i thought it was. But if it was, commercial success does not equal talent. I've used this example before, if the Oscars were to do that, them the Transformers series would be winning hella awards.

Kanye will be remember fondly once he's out of the spotlight, just like every other arsehole musician from the past. People remember the music not the person and Kanye makes good music.

Yeah. Popularity equaling awards... hell, even the Video Game Awards are beyond that mindless standard now. Call of Duty isn't winning awards every year.

First tragedy, then farce.
#TeamKanye

Saw him last night at Madison square park. He didn't rant about the Grammy's at all.

He did rant about Nike, but you know. Kanye gotta Kanye.
