Katamari Damacy music in Taiko no Tatsujin 4 (ps2)!

Thanks for the Katamari ONI video! Unfortunately, I downloaded it twice and both times the video was corrupt. Am I doing something wrong? I was able to play the other videos you've made without problems. Please let me know; I really want to see it!

I just finished watching it now. Try, try again as they say.

edit: It did look a little screwy on the right and bottom portions of the screen when I used the DivX Player. When I used NVDVD it worked fine except for the bottom portion of the screen. I didn't notice that the first time I watched it.

I just tried playing it with the DivX player and it worked fine (except for the issue with the bottom and right side of the screen). I was using Media Player before; I guess it just choked on this one for some reason. Thanks for the tip!

Bobby - Do the one that starts with thunder- can't remember the whole name, but it's one of the earnable songs, if you've gotten it (we got it before we unlocked the demon mode so I figured so did you :))

Haha! I had actually done that one already and forgot to list it. It was uploaded and everything. Thanks for reminding me!

These video problems worry me a bit. I'm still very new to this capturing stuff, so I'm kinda trying to feel out the various codecs and see which one works best and which people like the best. Do you guys have any preferences? I have no idea why using DivX makes those tiny horizontal 'scanline' looking things on all moving objects - I don't think I've ever seen anything like that on anyone else's captures, and they're definitely not there before I encode them. I don't suppose anyone has any tips on doing good game video captures?

Why are you mostly hitting on one side of the drum?

My only reference is Donkey Konga, with its Yellow for left(?) and Red for right(?)... you hit the other half of the drum but not that often...

Also, what is the melon-eating game about? The drum is eating like a pig, but how do you get it to eat? And spit those seeds?

And thank you for the videos... they made me buy the 4th edition.

You can hit whichever side of the drum you want - it only counts inner hits (regardless of which side you hit) and outer (rim) hits. I'm using the normal Dual Shock to play when capturing these videos, so I'm leading with the circle button and then adding taps of "left" on the D-Pad for the faster fills. The rim hits are done with L1 and R1. I play the same way when using the Tatacon, or for that matter when playing real drums.

It's kinda too bad that they haven't added a mode that takes full advantage of the Tatacon's 4 sensors yet.

As for the melon eating, that's basically just a total jammer. Eating and spitting is controlled by hitting the drum face as fast as you can, and dodging the little kid's bat is done by hitting the rim. I assume that when you play in 2p mode, spitting the seeds hits and messes up your opponent. I'll have to try that out sometime soon. :D

It's rad that you're getting the game!

Try DivX or XviD.

EDIT: After I upgraded to the newest version of DivX, the Katamari Oni video became even more messed up than before, even in the DivX Player. How did you encode this one, bobbyconover?

I'm also planning on picking up this game, but I'm not sure which versions to get. Are there any songlists available anywhere? Which versions would you recommend? And does the "Animated Cartoon Festival" contain any good songs?

And for anyone who has played the game on a chipped PAL PS2, are there any sync problems?

Every single vid is encoded with DivX 5.2.0 - I have absolutely no idea why that specific one is causing people problems.

Again, I'd be happy to encode videos a different way, but it's pretty hard to reach any kind of consensus on which codec is 'best' or most widespread. If anyone has any suggestions, I'm listening!

I'll give this thread a little bump. Great, great videos! :)

I got my 4th Generation bundle package five days ago and I have to say that it ROCKS! What a wonderful game! :D

I also have a few questions!

1) Are you really supposed to hit the drum so hard? D: I'm sometimes a bit too careful, particularly with my games, so my cautionsness could be playing a trick on me... But somehow I get the feeling that there's something wrong with my Tatacon. :O

2) How do you unlock the additional songs? I have 1-37 this far, so I've unlocked two songs. I assume you simply have to keep on collecting points in the Arcade mode? Also, can you unlock something through the mini-games?

3) Could I give a summary of the different ratings you can get, please? What does the flame (the one that's displayed on the score meter) do? Maybe I'm blind but I can't seem to find any differences between getting a burning flame or just end up with a few yellow dots on the meter.
By the way, about the different difficulty levels: red flowers - easy; green plants (?) - normal/medium; black/dark blue symbols (plants again? I forget :P) - hard? Is this correct? When is ONI mode unlocked? Or is the black/dark blue difficulty level the ONI mode?

4) How do I find the Drum Sound Effects Gallery menu? ._.

5) The Restaurant mini-game... I don't get it. I guess you have to know Japanese to make your way through it? :/

And the music! Such a happy little soundtrack. Too bad a soundtrack most probably won't be released. :/

My favourite tracks are Ai Otuka's "Sakuranbo", the Dekaranger theme song, Katamari on a Rock (!!! \o/), the Sarugetchu song, "Katsushika Rhapsody" [(?) well, I mean the "~PAPA Version~" song, at least :)] and "Aoi sangoshou" (Seiko Matsuda?).

If someone happens to have Katsushika Rhapsody and/or Aoi sangoshou... *cough*Be sure to contact me*cough*... Errhm, what? ¯\(º_o)/¯

*goes back to loop "Sakuranbo" over and over again*

By the way, has someone tried to rip the songs? That would be very appreciated! :)

Edit: Oh, wait. So typical, I noticed this a few seconds later after posting

(...) - and on top of that the tracks are really hard to rip. Since there's no sound test (that I know of), it means having to perfectly perform each song "live" while recording them, which usually ends up sounding horrible. So yeah, we're probably out of luck. :(

Why's that? :O

Eh? Psychic Lover - Tokusou Sentai Dekaranger track is in there?!?

Why's what??

Oh. I'm really tired now, you see. :P
Basically I meant, why do you have to perfectly perform the song "live" while recording them? From what I have seen the songs keep on running even if you don't hit the drums. But somehow, I have this STRONG - very, very strong - feeling that I'm missing something very important/obvious here. :O

Yes! Tokusou Sentai DEKA-RA-IN-DYAAAA!! {dundutdudundutdutdu-dudundutdDUUU} *wacky rock star pose*

IIRC, I think it's also in Donkey Konga 2.

Ha! You're right, I'm dumb. I'm so used to playing rhythm games where playing the instrument actually 'creates' the song that I totally forgot that in TnT you're just drumming on top of fully-formed music. So yeah, a rip is possible after all. :D
