The same thing can be said for PS3, but a far more number of PS3 will be sold if you compare it with PSP. [/QUOTE]

PS2 sales close to GBA/SP sales. PS3 likely to sell similar to PS2. PSP to sell far less than PS3, per KK. Handheld war is over. GB line wins.

who's vince?

I guess, when you get right down to it, they may not ever have expected to actually BEAT Nintendo in the handheld arena...but thus far, I'd say they have been more successful than virtually every other attempt and have introduced a great platform regardless of what Nintendo does. If they can play the role of "XBOX" or something in the handheld market, I'd say they will have done well.

I HOPE it continues to do well, though. It's such an awesome machine.

Uh, me? I was quoting Ken Kutaragi, except this douche took the comment out of context and seems to suck at the internet and likely life in general. Sorry.

For those who missed the thrilling prequel, this is what happened:

Episode 1:

Ken Kutaragi: 'This is only Xbox 1.5 rather than a next-generation Xbox'
For us it's very acceptable that Microsoft invests in this area. But just upping output resolution of a conventional game console and improving graphics power don't expand the world of game consoles as of today. This is only XBOX 1.5 rather than a next-generation XBOX. Rather than replacing what existent game console vendors have been doing with high-performance hardware, I want them to find a totally new field by their own originality. If they do so, we can expand the world of computer entertainment together.

PSP was evaluated by many people as inexpensive, but still 24,900 Yen. Its cost model can have a feasible cash flow by the higher in-house development ratio and other factors.

The same thing can be said for PS3, but a far more number of PS3 will be sold if you compare it with PSP. But as I mentioned before PS3 has no consciousness as a game console. It was our goal that we wanted to sell a computer for entertainment with added values. - Ken Kutaragi

Unless of course, Kutaragi thinks the PS3 will sell far more than the PS2, or, he's just referring to the period during which both devices are still at launch price. :)

Makes sense to me. PS3 is probably expected to sell between 80-100 million units, just like PS1 and PS2. Sony would have to be happy if the PSP, their first handheld, manages to sell even half of that (40-50M units). Of course, thats not talking about PSP2. :lol

PSP = XBox.

Going into a market with a strongly dominant leader, no real intent of becoming the leader in a single generation, just carving out enough of a niche to have a good run into the next generation. If it does as well against Nintendo's handhelds as XBox did against PS2, I'd see that as a success (just as I see XBox as a success this generation, causing me to eat my words somewhat...)
