I wonder where Cooter was when protesters at the RNC were jailed, abused, and, on the very floor of the convention itself, kicked repeatedly while already down.

So holding a Bush/Cheney sign is the same as commiting civil disobedience?

Why are you even bringing the RNC up in here? What's your point? Even if the protesters were treated unfairly, how does that justify picking on a little girl?

It's the litte girl's fault. She was probably trying to front. Little kids think they're so tough these days. I rip up little kids shit every chance I get, got to show them who's boss.

If you'll kindly take a moment to read the thread, you'll note that I brought it up in response to Cooter's clumsy, generalized analogy below.

Cooter said:
Ah yes, he expected some asshole to steal his daughters sign and rip it up.

This is the same argument of "the woman deserved to get raped because she was wearing a low cut shirt around a bunch of men."

Why don't you trying placing blame on the people who deserve it?

I'd say his analogy went way too far. In response to

This is the same argument of "the woman deserved to get raped because she was wearing a low cut shirt around a bunch of men."

I'd say, "No, but she shouldn't be shocked if they stare."

Likewise, I'm sure this guy wasn't shocked that not everyone was thrilled with him bringing the sign. Doesn't make them any less dicks, though.

That's pretty fucked up. Is it just me, or are a lot of democrats angry people? The protesting at the rnc and now this. Why are they so angry?

Generalize much?

I'm angry, but it's for individual reasons, thank you.

Maybe they don't like the current state of the world and are upset by it?

Just a thought.

Celicar said:
So it's okay for them to pick on little girls? :(

From the Wash Times article, it seems as though the other people picked on the family as a whole, not on just the girl. Of course that doesn't make it right.

Anyways, Metatron and -jinx- were answering your question about angry people, which didn't involve the girl.

When JC said this:
JC10001 said:
Um... yeah! He should have expected that a perhaps a lot worse. I guess you wouldn't place any blame on someone who got the shit kicked out of them as the result of their walking around Harlem carrying a sign with a racial slur on it either. Afterall, its not his fault that the local residents were offended and decided to take it out on him right? The residents are totally to blame!!! :rolleyes

Cooter said this:
This is great. A Bush/Cheney sign is now equal to a racial slur. This entire paragraph is complete horse shit.

Yet, when people say that the man having his daughter carry a Bush/Cheney sign was asking for trouble you say this:

Cooter said:

::scratches chin:: Is it just me, or is there some glaring inconsistency here? How is your analogy any different than JC's?

I'd say his analogy was spot on.

How could it possibly be? A reasonable person would not expect a woman to be raped for wearing a low cut shirt around a bunch of guys. A reasonable person would expect a mob of huge Kerry supporters to cause problems for a Bush supporter who went out of his way to show up in the middle of the Kerry mob with a pro-Bush sign. In the stupid rape analogy, there is a very harmful result for very regular behavior. At the political rally, there was a very mild confrontation for ridiculously provocative behavior.

I think whoever did that is a complete jackass. I also think bringing your 3 year old to a political event (even if it's just Edwards arriving by plane, you know it's gonna be mainly the "opposition" there) is retarded. To sum up, the person who ripped the sign is fucking stupid, and the father is a moron for dragging his daughter to such a place.

... and this one

firex said:
Wow, that father is a fucking asshole, using his 3 year old daughter as some kind of way to get attention and mug for the cameras. If that wasn't his intention, then he's just retarded as hell.

IAWTP too.

Amazing how childish some people can be. Poor kid :(

Just so you know, the other day both Kerry's plane and Bush's plane were stopped at the airport like 20 metres from each other. So it's no surprise that Bush and Kerry supporters would be mingling.

No, its not. The underlying principle is the same. That guy might as well have walked around with a sign that said "You All Can Go F#(K Yourselves" because it would have been just as insulting.

This was a small town event in which a group of political supporters thought they would get a chance to meet one of the candidates. They should not have to put up with Bush-ites raining on their parade. This isn't like one of the conventions where people go there knowing full well that the opposition will be out in full force to protest. These people showed up to hear Edwards speak and to have a good time. The Bush/Cheney guy went there with the expressed purpose of being a dick and ruining it for them. If you do stupid shit and put yourself in a bad situation then you deserve what happens to you.

If someone walks around Harlem with a sign that has a racial slur on it they are asking for a confrontation and/or a beat down. Likewise if someone goes to a local political rally to be obnoxious he is asking for something bad to happen to him as well. End of story.

Do you even read what you type?

The girl didn't have a sign that said tear me up. She simply had a sign supporting the President.

I'm done with this mindless debate.

Feel free to continue practicing this twisted logic but don't expect to find many people outside of GA who agree with you.

Later.

Cooter, your selective self-righteous schtick is incredibly tired and boring.

FATHER OF DAUGHTER HAS PULLED THIS BEFORE!!!!!!

http://rising-hegemon.blogspot.com/2004/09/bogus-assault-father-freeper-of-year.html

Saw this over at DU...and one of the people did a search and wallaaa this guy has done this before. The link to the old Campaign 2000 story of this guy pulling this before is through the link.

BUSTED! Another lying liar.

This guy should be ashamed of using his daughter as a political tool.

After this, does anyone have any respect for any republicans? Do you really think they can be trusted to tell the truth about anything? They lie to the media, they lie to the american public, they lie to you.

Seriously though, why does shit like this even make it into the news. This just in, apparently both democratic and republican supporters have jackasses within their ranks. Say it ain't so!

Smegging smeg of a smeg!
This is the third time this guy's been "attacked".

Charleston (WV) Daily Mail, August 27, 1996, Page 3C

Phil Parlock's experience was less calm.

The Huntington man said he was knocked to the ground by a Clinton supporter when he tried to display a sign that read "Remember Vince Foster," the deputy White House counsel who committed suicide in a Washington, D.C., park. His death has become the subject of much debate among Clinton opponents.
"It must have been a strict Democrat who did this," Parlock said, feeling the red abrasions on his face. "Everyone with the exception of him was real peaceful about our protest."
Parlock said some of the crowd tried to make other anti-Clinton demonstrators feel unwelcome. He estimated that about 150 Dole supporters attended the rally, but their signs couldn't be seen for most of the rally.

Charleston (WV) Daily Mail, October 28, 2000, pg. 1A:

Phil Parlock didn't expect to need all 12 of the Bush-Cheney signs he and his son Louis smuggled in their socks and pockets into the rally for Vice President Al Gore.
But each time they raised a sign, someone would grab it out of their hands, the two Huntington residents said. And sometimes it got physical.
"I expected some people to take our signs," said Louis, 12. "But I did not expect people to practically attack us."
The two said they didn't go to the Friday morning rally to start trouble.
"I came to support Bush and try to change some people's minds," Louis said.
