Kickstarter Thread - 2015 - Making promising projects a reality...again

Always tough to launch a KS before and during E3. Twin Souls suffered similarly last year despite a lot of praise and hype. Do you plan to continue development or launch a second campaign?

We're not sure, we've been contacted from a company that basically grants half the funding on a different platform, and after that drives the people to your projects granting overfunding and stuff.
I'm aware that shadow funding is very beneficial for a kickstarter campaign, but I didn't think it was "required".

Especially with our very low goal, but I can't say much, the demo and others things of the kickstarter definitely could've been better with some more time, so it's simply just me yelling to a cloud.

Really like the look of your game too - hope you either get a second funding chance or find a way to continue with the project.

Thank you so much, hopefully we'll come around.

Just got this in the mail. Best 4th of July present. America is a tune. It must be sung together.

Awe man I loved thrust on the c64 and nothing has captured its style since a few have tried but they just didn't pull it off for me.

This game probably would be in the same boat but for the comedy value and obvious fun factor which is looking pretty good.

Looking forward to it in its own way but my hunt for that true 'thrust' re-imagined game continues!!!

Good luck to your m8 hope his kickstarter is a great success!!!

A Hack'n'Slash RPG from Indonesia in the style of Muramasa caught my eye.

Boma Naraka Sura
Boma Naraka Sura, is taken from an infamous minor character in ancient South-East Asian scriptures, Bomantara. In many traditional storytelling, he usually plays as the enemy toward some favorable heroic characters.

The developer thinks differently, since Boma actually has series of unfortunate events in his unfair life, they think his struggle deserves higher appreciation, but to avoid many complications, they decided to tell the story of Boma from a different perspective. And then they contacted me! Yes, they contacted me to be involved in this project.

This game will tell the story of me, a young girl named Sveta that somehow intertwined with Boma’s story which both have unfinished matters in the past. The story will be unfolded each time my memory fragments are collected.

Here's a good one worth mentioning: Insert Coin: Inside Midway's '90s Revolution, a documentary by Robomodo head Josh Tsui, who got his start in gaming at Midway and was there to witness their glory days. Features:

Interviews and wild stories from the people who were there (John Tobias, Mark Turmell, Sal DaVita, and Eugene Jarvis are included in the doc, and several others are being chased down for an appearance)

Behind the scenes footage (WWF Wrestlemania: The Arcade Game and Mortal Kombat: Special Forces are teased on the KS page)

That feeling of nostalgia for the Wild West mentality that ruled the roost in video game development in the 1990s

Mr. Tsui is asking for $75K, and it crested the 15% funded mark within the first day. This one, I think, is totally worth putting on the radar.

- 96 funded (61%)
- 39 failed (25%)
- 21 cancelled (13%)

Cross Reverie was canceled. Looking at the the last update, it appears they got a private investor. I hadn't checked it since the kickstarter first went live so I don't know how they were doing before they decided to cancel.

Boma Naraka Sura actually made it, down to the final ~16 hours now---always a nice surprise to see the relatively few that pretty much just had semi-steady growth for the duration manage to cross the line as opposed to only the ones that blow the doors off in the first day or so on top of a last minute rush drive.

The game sort of looks cool, but their poor English doesn't inspire much confidence.

Interview with the CEO of Rockfish and one of the creators of Everspace.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=olZxvN6XmXI

So I finished up my interview over skype with Michael and he had some interesting things to share and a couple tidbits they haven't shared yet. On my channel we do interviews with just a couple questions and then just sit back and talk, so Michael shares his thoughts on some other Kickstarters, working for someone else versus themselves, unreal engine, reviews, and a couple other diversions.

Since he is all the way across the world his upload speed on his cam wasn't great so its got some pixal wash. So for viewers who hate that kind of stuff here is a couple snippits.

  • Major influences included Darksouls
  • Looking to add a true 1 death difficulty basically you die and everything goes away
  • Their choice of a very limited # of ships is backed by their past games tracking of users who used just a couple ships despite them creating around 50+
  • Resources that would have gone to new ships is going to ship parts and other generation
  • Major procedural content when it comes to the universe each time you die MIGHT have some handmade star systems for story content
  • Each time you start you start from a space carrier(seemed to be some kind of hint about the story)
  • Referenced a bit of BSG and Edge of Tomorrow when it comes to resurrection versus death
  • Whether you die a great deal or not you will still get the story content it will just be delivered slightly differently
  • Dynamic music throughout

That is one nostalgia-tickling pitch vid right there for Judgment of Rage---right down to the less than ideal subtitling quality though clearly in earnest.

Against all odds, or the spectacle brawler community not being out of bed just yet, I hope they can somehow make it on the strength of that and their overall pitch alone.
