Cool stuff.

The Kid Icarus thing is speculation from an interview, I think. Anyone have a link to it? I can't remember what was said, but it really gave the idea that they were working on something.

Oh god. The amount of times "Kid Iracus 64" and "Kid Iracus GC" have popped up when the console was just a start up rumor...

Guess I'm in the minority not wanting a new Kid Icarus game. I thought the first one was bad. Am I missing something? Or is this one of those cases where time/nostaligia has overridden judgement?

Its just a case of different strokes for different folks. Your missing the fact that you are a individual.

Kid Icarus may be odd on next-gen console mainly because I am sure they would move it into 3d. I thought it worked well with Metroid Prime, but we'll just have to wait and see, if we ever do see. :lol

What about the "new IP"? It's confirmed for launch in the newest Nintendo Power and was mentioned during the press conference...

there's nothing in that miyamoto interview about kid icarus.

LET IT GO.

IGNcube: Will you make Kid Icarus for Revolution?

Shigeru Miyamoto: Well, I'm actually working really closely right now with the director of the [original] game. Now, whether or not when we get the Revolution all set up and everything is finalized, well who knows? That might be one of those characters where everybody says, "Hey, with the way our console is designed, that would be a perfect match." My question to you is, if we made this game would you buy it?

IGNcube: Absolutely.

Shigeru Miyamoto: Well, we obviously can't ignore that. Okay, we'll get the Eggplant Wizard coming back.

Not conclusive by any means, but still... that's where the"rumor" originated from.

Well I never heard of Killing Day or The Darkness Starbreeze AB

The new IP is Nintendo-developed. The Darkness is by Starbreeze, developers of The Chronicles of Riddick, and Killing Day is a FPS by Ubisoft

my bad.

no wait, IGN's bad. this interview, http://cube.ign.com/articles/617/617000p1.html, linked from the kid icarus wishlist thing, doesn't say anything about KI. I didn't see this other one.

I still don't believe it!

EDIT - OK, now it is there. what the hell am I smoking?

A promise is a promise. Nintendo can't back out now.

It is interesting. The tiny remarks that Miyamoto throws out always have a knack for coming true.

I doubt many forgot his (so obviously paraphrased) "Gee, those characters in (RARE's) Dinosaur Planet look a lot like Fox McCloud, maybe we should change them" statement and of course, it came true.

And I somewhat agree with the above poster. I've never understood why there are so many damn KI fanboys around despite there not being a game made since the original ages ago.

If there's a damn game that needs to have a sequel, its Demon's Crest from Capcom. Damn you Mikami!

Kid Icarus was a fantastic game. The property is freakin greek mythology, how could that suck.

Kid Icarus was a fantastic game, especially by 1986 standards. It will never capture the fame of Metroid because it didn't have that third ultra-spectacular SNES title. Innovative as f**, great soundtrack, cool bosses, and really fun.

I like ubisoft.

Also, if splinter cell 4 is coming to revolution then that means that the interface can't be toooooo crazy.

why the fuck would you want IntSys to make it when R&D1 is still around?

He's probably one of those countless fanboys who still don't know that IS and R&D1 are separate, and is probably trying to say "Don't let any outside developer make it!" ala Battalion Wars, Star Fox, etc.

Was Spinter Cell, Darkness, Pirates, and Killing Day *actually* confirmed specifically for Rev, or was it just one of those "all-next gen consoles" crap that usually means PS3 and 360 anyway?

Because as far as I know, the only companies to SPECIFICALLY say they were doing Rev work right now we're Bandai and Namco.

Ahhhhh yes.....remember that part of the Odyssey where they have to face the horrifying Eggplant Wizard? :lol

Mr. Harker, don't forget about Square-Enix & FF:CC for the Rev. specifically confirmed.

My thoughts exactly. Also, Square is definately on board as well.

edit: Li beat me on the Square thing.

Oh, yea, I took that as self-evident and didn't list it in my "Is anyone actually sure of these games" list. Iwata specifically announced that game, so I didn't mention it. Namco and Bandai independently announced support, however, unlike the other developrs IGN listed....... right?

I thought the original was vastly overrated, but a sequel with 2D, SOTN style gameplay would be incredible...

You know, while Kid Icarus would be a nice little property to bring back, and people tell me the original was fun... I really think IGN has generated 98% of the resurgance of interest in it in the past few years. When SSBM was revealed and talked about, they kept going on and on about Pitt and how he may be included, and does this trophy mean anything, well, Ganondorf gets a trophy, but he also ended up being playable, et cetera... they trumped up a huge amount of expectation, and then _disappointment_, because Nintendo didn't magically include Pitt like they did with the Ice Climbers. (Nintendo obviously had other characters than they weren't able to include at the time which I'd think prioritize over Pitt; Ridley, Star Wolf, Samurai Goroh, and the Tonzura Bros. are all featured in the CGI intro, but aren't playable in-game. The intro was made way before the game design was complete, so that's understandable, but most of the characters in the intro _did_ make it in. And King Dedede was supposed to be included, like Bowser, since the original SSB, but he's had no luck either. So even with more dev time, I think Pit still would've been SOL this go-around. :P)

I can't count the number of interviews where they've brought up Kid Icarus in recent years, now even bugging Miyamoto about it directly. But hey, they might be on to something. Press asking about Sonic CD over and over for years (affecting the people they talk to directly, and the people who read the interviews and ask the same question of the company themselves) seems to have finally delivered with Sonic Gems Collection. I don't think Naka likes Sonic CD, so I'm not sure they would've been in a big rush to have any of the teams re-port it, even for quick cash, unless there hadn't been such a vocal demand.

Good for them, seriously. The only reason Metroid came back is because we all agreed to ask about it at EVERY SINGLE roundtable or Q&A session from like 1995 to 2001 :p Eventually they got the point, heh.

They'll probably have to redesign the series. There's not a lot to work with. I can see them either making Kid Icarus into a cartoony style, sort of like the Smash Bros. trophy, or a Twilight Princess 'mature' style. That could be cool. But until I see it, I won't believe it's an official game.

A DS Kid Icarus is a fantastic idea, though. I'd love to see what they'd do with that.

Yeah but Metroid is a series that begged to be refreshed--Kid Icarus is not. (And I really liked the original.)

Punch Out should be number fucking one on anyones Nintendo revival list. Kid Icarus can do well as a DS title imo (as would Punch Out with touch screen finger boxing) but a Rev Punch Out would kick butt also.

I just want another Super Mario RPG. Is that so hard to give him an RPG with all new characters again, without making him paper or double-team Luigi?

I mean, I miss Geno and Mallow :(

And where else can you play as Bowser to HELP Peach? ha

I'd much prefer media types bug Nintendo about releasing English versions of games they've already made rather than farfetched restarts on ancient franchises.

What are the chances that Nintendo will finally get the head out of their asses and give us our Pokemon MMORPG for Revolution? That would instantly become the biggest online console RPG ever.

The only reason Kid Icarus even has a cult following is because of the absolute LACK of A+ titles on the NES early on. All the early adopters played the shit out of that game because there wasn't much else after you beat SMB and shot a billion ducks in duck hunt.

It's time has passed. If it was released now, casuals would say "Look at this stupid God of War knockoff."

The only obvious answer is to make the game they should have made on SNES and release it on the DS.

It's like Nintendo has the secret to nuclear fusion, and they don't want to release it. It's the most obvious game, in the history of gaming.
