But there is Dredd...
I hate myself for not noticing the mad dog shout out.I thought the sequel was a lot better than the first and that's saying something considering the first movie is like the "Hard Boiled" of Martial arts movies for me. ( hell they even had a guy named Mad Dog in it)
It can't possibly be worse than the original, so why the fuck not.
First mistake. I don't want to see a martial arts movie full of white guys with six months of training, I want motherfuckers who've been backflipping since before they could walk and don't mind throwing a spinning kick nine hundred times to get the shot perfect.
The Raid Remake Will Feature "A Clash of Fighting Styles"
Director reveals story and casting plans for U.S. remake.
For the uninitiated, The Raid: Redemption is a martial arts masterpiece set in Jakarta, Indonesia starring Iko Uwais. There's bloodcurdling brutality in the movie and one of the best fight scenes ever filmed. Of course Hollywood will remake it.
It can't possibly be worse than the original, so why the fuck not.
I always get the feeling for these kinds of movies that half the people who defend them to the death only like them because Rotten Tomatoes told them to.
Meh. I'd like to see another take on it. The original movie didn't have some amazing history\story that needs to be preserved. Nothing does really (because who gives a shit) but this even less so.
Is Evans coining in on this remake?

Well, this will be terrible. It's weird that they're doing a remake considering the sequel to the original got a wide release.
The issue that I have with this kind of remake is that here you have this great film with great actors, yet instead of championing that they decide to take it and "westernize" it. The Raid: Redemption is only a couple years old, there is no need for a remake other than making it more "palatable" to western audiences.
Good. As much as I loved the first movie, the second one is a mess comparatively. Did NOT need to be two and a half hours long, good lord.
Kicking ass.another take on what?
I think an action movie is always better with characters and stories you actually care about... so it's not like there is absolutely no room for improvement.
Just...don't watch it?
I really don't get why people get so offended about (obviously unnecessary) remakes.
When its one thing I hate about action movies, than it is seing that noone is getting hit. I probably can't watch fjghting scenes anymore.
Am I the only one who thinks Dredd is a really bad movie? But there is Dredd...
Misread it as remaking Raid with the expendable a cast, that would of been great.

The only way it could work is if they get Scott Adkins to play the lead. Gareth Evans wants him and Michael Jai White and I pray the studio has enough brains to listen to him.
It was Yuen Woo Ping who had his own condition, and that was that the directors would guarantee that their cast train long hours to learn kungfu and wire work. "That's a big request," remark the brothers, "How do you tell an actor that they're going to have to spend four months training and learning kungfu when they could make another movie in that same time? That's what impressed us about Keanu. He understood why it was necessary and the dedication it required. In fact, the whole cast has amazed us with their dedication to the training regime - it's been incredibly rigorous."
Keanu, Lawrence, Carrie-Anne and Australian star Hugo Weaving all trained for four months before shooting the film in Australia, mostly in an obscure warehouse north of Hollywood, in Burbank. I was lucky to have the opportunity to visit the group on several occasions, watch the training and stunt sequences, and chat with Woo Ping, Keanu, Lawrence and more of the cast and Hong Kong stunt crew.
Watching the process was, well, history, at least a part of film history. The cast was undergoing rigorous training in kungfu and wirework, while at the same time Woo Ping was choreographing fights and action sequences, video camera in hand, experimenting with angles and techniques. At lunch he would watch the footage and make improvements. Sometimes, if the actors had worked extra hard, they got to watch a Hong Kong action film too.

after watching winter soldier, i'm actually down for this
had me feeling pretty positive about it.Wikipedia said:The deal was completed in November 2011 with writer-director Gareth Evans serving as an executive producer of the remake. XYZ Films, executive producers on the original Indonesian version, will be producers on the American version.[44] Screen Gems also wants the same choreographers from The Raid involved with the remake.

What do you mean "championing"? And who is "they"
I don't get why this bothers people so much. It's not like the original ceases to exist. And it's not stealing any shine from it either because realistically this movie would be targeted at people who (wrong as it is) would have never given the original a chance because it's a "foreign" film. We saw this with oldboy and the sky didn't fall.

The Raid is a martial arts film, there have been maybe... 3... good western martial arts flicks.
There are far more offensive remakes in the works, like The Crow.
That said, I mean... Hughes is working with Jaa on Expendables 3.
Imagine Jaa in a The Raid movie.
Imagine iiiittttt.
