Killer Instinct and DKC technology, why is it that most 2d games don't use this tech?

If a lot more titles used this technology, I think GBA games would sell alot more, if they had the visual appeal of the two titles mentioned in the thread topic.

I would love to play a Capcom versus SNK with the same technology as KI, it would be nice to see the next Metroid title use it aswell(DKC).

How about good Metal Slug?

Why have developers neglected the impact this technology could have on the visual appeal of 2d games?

What I would give to play Killer Instinct GOLD on a DS, with online play and new levels. Knowing this probably will never happen, just erks me down to my videogame playing soul.

because it looks ugly as fuck now and was tied to (then) good looking games (technically) with shit gameplay?

I'm having trouble fully appreciating Mario vs. Donkey Kong and Mario Pinball because the CG look REMINDS me of the older RARE games (especially since Yoshi's Island art is kickass and has never been properly revived)...I personally don't want to see that style return in full force.

Maybe because those graphics aren't as great as you think they are. I'll take hand-drawn sprites over pre-rendered models any day.

2D Games that use pre-rendered 3d graphics look like ass. Hand drawn stuff looks a hell of a lot better and more detailed.

Actually a lot of GBA games do use pre-rendered sprites. Too many, to tell the truth.

pre rendered looks like SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIT

spend a little bit more money and make some sprites you assholes.

What technology? It's simply some prerendered sprites! :lol

Arcade version of Killer Instinct was cool thought. But SNES version of 3D games didn't looked that great...

I didn't know so many of you guys felt that way about that technology, I thought the visuals were accepted by most as great looking, could just be preferences.

Don't get me wrong though, I do enjoy the hand drawn sprites. I just thought about sales those garnered based on the technology.

IIRC I was the only person I knew in my area, at the time, that disliked those Rare games...people where buying DKC due to the graphics and were pumping quaters into KI arcade machines while I sat back and scratched my head at how they were falling for the graphics and overlooking (or not noticing) the poor gameplay

The CG look in 2D games annoyed me then and still does to this day

OT: My opinion of Rare's games never changed...good to great looking games with half-formed or borrowed gameplay

I did enjoy Conkers and Snake Rattle N' Roll, though :b

more often than not though, especially with 3D graphics today, instead of "wasting" those resources by downgrading them to 2d sprites, it would seem much more worthwhile to just use the 3D models themselves in an actual game.
