Killer Instinct coming to Xbox One

Like I said yesterday or the day before, as there is no retail release I think they are using this game as an experiment of a 'PC style release before its completed.'

I think that the game mechanics will be complete on release but I think over time they will role out characters and possibly gameplay modes.

Then once they are all done, then release a retail complete pack.

The funny thing is that this is how the KI1 arcade release was. As I recall, it took almost a year before we got v1.5 which had overheads, fake overheads, some glitch fixes and all of that.

One of the biggest KI fans there is and as soon as I saw this shown at E3 I was disappointed.

I'll stick to playing the originals on MAME.

Fuck you M$

I was really disappointed when I saw the MS briefing trailer. However, playing the game gave me more confidence, and talking to Ken Lobb sold me. I have a lot of faith in the game now.

Go watch the footage from the Cross Counter stream. Hell, look at anything other than that "teaser / trailer" they showed at E3. I was a lot more excited after seeing more intricate gameplay videos.

Yeah, that Cross Counter stream was really great. I have seen multiple people say after watching that one specifically they were sold.

Practice mode is going to allow hitboxes to be turned on... interesting.

“We're going to put stuff into our practice mode, stuff the fighting game guys want. You're going to be able to turn on hitboxes, you're going to be able to see what your inputs are. Being able to see where your frames are active and what they're covering... it's going to be huge.”

i think it looks awesome and is really the only upcoming game that could convince me to buy the system at launch but do we know if KI1/2 might get an XBLA release (either for 360 OR for xbone)?

it might be a smart idea for MS to drum up more interest in the series.... please? i'll pay $10 each!

Wanted to ask you guys when they say "full version" at launch what are your expectations for what that includes and what price point are you thinking of?

i would say:

1. 15-20 characters
2. single player mode with final boss
3. online play
4. some extras like stat tracking and maybe some unlockables like videos of the original KI trailers and artwork and things like that

Wanted to ask you guys when they say "full version" at launch what are your expectations for what that includes and what price point are you thinking of?

What I'd like to see:

- $40
- 25-30 characters
- Full story mode
- Mission/Trial mode
- Multiple online modes (lobbies, ranked, etc)
- Complete training mode

What I expect to see:

- $50
- Less than 20 characters (I'd guess 16)
- Basic story mode, maybe even just an arcade mode
- Mission/Trial mode
- Multiple online modes (lobbies, ranked, etc)
- Complete training mode

Well, they seem to be making a point in interviews to say how it is digital only which to me seems like they are trying to set expectations towards something more akin to an XBLA title in terms of content.

So, I'll guess:
- $20-30 for the "Full Version"
-15 or less characters
-Basic single-player (maybe story, but I am leaning towards more arcade mode with character specific endings)
-All the basic online modes you would want
-A good training/mission mode

As for pricing for the piece-meal model I could see it being like $3 a character, so not too expensive if you only want 1 or 2 characters, but the full version would be the much better value. I could also see them trying (depending on how many characters they are able to get in for launch) to release a new character every couple of weeks or so kinda like NRS does with Injustice DLC.

so awesome

Expecting:
  • 30 to 60 dollars price (I think this is more of a "DOA 5" retail level release to them, rather than Skullgirls-level "Arcade" release.)
  • 8 to 15 characters (I don't expect a huge roster out the gate)
  • 8+ Stages (With a focus on interesting destruction)
  • Arcade mode with Rivaliries and character-specific endings
  • A big online focus, that introduces some new / fresh "next gen" features
  • A robust training mode approaching the quality of Skullgirls.

If they could pull off something amazing price wise (like have it at 20 bucks for full release game, with each season pass of 4 or so characters costing 10 dollars), I think they could really cement the fact that this game is something that's set up for long-term growth.

Things I'd like:
  • A Season pass bundle right off the bat, with previews (silhouettes, descriptions) of the archetypes, or actual characters, we'll be seeing.
  • 20 Characters (all KI's oldies, plus new faces)
  • KI 1 and 2 Skins... Unlockable or free and released periodically, just to promote the game.
  • Unique special effects per skin; thus fireball designs, sword colors, or other trivial things (existence of saberwulf's bats!) could be spread between designs.
  • Character-specific stages and themes as a standard feature.
  • Stage "Fatalities" or some sort, triggered by KOs in a specific spot / wall-bounces as final blows.
  • Unified Story mode, That serves as a story + expanded character-specific tutorials.
  • Online integrated into story in a fun way; such as having online opponents interrupt the story, as they call out their challenges to you
  • An info area, that list the patch notes, upcoming content, and messages from the dev team IN GAME.
  • The ability to sort and share online video uploads, and archive them to a "most helpful" section on the server, so people can actually look up the videos, and see the evolution of a character directly from dedicated players.
  • Developer-created featured videos that highlight interesting / emerging tech in the game.
  • The ability to convert user-created combos into combo trials for practice mode; allow the original to be replayed as an example, like they do in KoF XIII / Skullgirls.

Man. One of the games that makes me want to get a One.

I just wish they hadn't waited this long to do something with the property.

Holy shit! That IS useful stuff.

I wouldn't be surprised if we see this microtransactioned like crazy. Rent a character for $1 for 24 hours, keep them for $8. All characters unlocked for $49.99. Stage unlocks are $.50 for 24 hours. All stages unlocked for $19.99. $60 for season pass. Costumes are sold separately from the season pass for $5.99 each. Story mode sold separately as part of season 2 next year with a seperate $60 fee for that season pass.

That being said I'm totally getting a season pass, and picking up a Day One Edition 12 months of Xbox Live with free Shadow Jago.

about time, way to much misconception thanks to ign,and ms for not clearing it up for some people.

That vid still doesn't clear anything up though. We already know the F2P version is the full game but you just get Jago and have to buy the other fighters separately. However, what about the other versions?

Is the alternative just buying a season pass and they slowly release content over a season? Will there be an actual FULL game at launch with a single player mode and a full roster of characters? Also what will be in the collectors edition version?

I see alot of people still think it's also a $60 retail game which is completely untrue and was part of the reason I made the separate thread that nobody liked.

From what they've said they plan to roll out more characters and modes/features over time. They seem to be listening to what the community wants and want their feedback.

The game will probably launch with a season pass option with 6 or so characters off the bat and all the standard modes, with more stuff coming periodically. That's just a guess but I think it's likely.

Is this digital only? Has it been confirmed that there will be no retail version?

99% sure yeah. I wouldn't be surprised to see a retail release when they've finished everything they plan to do on it, probably a year.

In the video he clearly states that there will be a full version of the game, this is coming from a guy who played the game for hours at e3 and spoke with the developers for who knows how long.

Nobody "liked" your thread because the post was just spreading misinformation about the game, hence the reason the thread was closed.

People didn't like it because it came out like an attack statement. Full retail, download only, I don't really care if it's a complete and fun game. If I play the free trial and don't like it, I won't spend any money on it -- I see that as more of a luxury than the assault against gaming same people see. I'll buy the complete edition, the seasons or whatever, that's my choice and I'm pretty sure the larger misconception is that it's only an F2P game that will OMG nickel and dime you for characters. Your thread wasn't enlightening in any regard.

Man, I'm confused about this whole thing. So there is a f2p version, but also there is a "full version" but it's a season pass where they release characters overtime. I'm not familiar with season passes. do they eventually expire or something? do you have to re up?

I wish they just put out a demo and whoever wants it just spend $60 for everything. I'm getting old

No, it's just a one off payment and then you get all future content.

There is no "F2P" version. There will be a demo at launch, in that demo you can use Jago for Arcade Mode and Multiplayer mode. If you want to use other characters, you can choose to buy the full game or buy only certain characters you want.

If they are releasing characters over time, then I'm sure it would be covered under the costs of buying the full game.

Thanks for the clarification.

Does anyone have direct feeds? I go to gamersyde but they don't have any

This is a pretty great video, also in 60 fps I believe.

I was absoluetly not spreading misinformation. Max is not on the dev team and the "full version" thrown around probably just means 6 charecters at launch with the promise of more content later as has been speculated. From the devs mouths and that polygon article all they mentioned is you can download the jago edition for free or buy a season pass there was no mention of purchasing a full version.

Why do people care so much about single player in KI? Yea injustice was good but I only played the SP once.. whoo hoo

Online in fighting games tends to be laggy and some of us don't have alot of friends who are into fighters. MK and Injustice had robust single player modes that I know not to expect from this game but at least it should have a single player arcade mode where you fight through opponents and battle bosses to get an ending but Lobb said no bosses either so I have no idea what to expect come November.

.

From what Double Helix said it's not a demo. You have total access to the full game as Jago and you can buy characters a la carte. It's a smaller scale version of Drive Club:PS+ Edition.

I highly doubt that, Id bet the full version at launch will have at least 10 characters, probably more.
