Killer Instinct coming to Xbox One

So, they add a new character, to add a new gameplay style. The only person who I could think would really fit "Aerial Rave" in Old KI would either be Cinder, or Riptor with Feathers..

I'm kinda glad they're brave enough to stick a new style on a new character, I would have hated to see them make a "Not real Orchid" version of Orchid, killing everything the old fans like about her, in order to get their own completely-different version in.

So IF Chara 6 is Orchid, we get 2 females in initial roster... if Fulgore, no Orchid in initial 6, but we get a robot!

If anyone else We'll probably riot[/spoiler], it'll be quite interesting to see.

giant nitpick? i mean, i dont even care really, but this new character looks as close as a clone can. this is KI's dan, lol

No offense guys but the MK complaint is coming off as a giant nitpick.

Yea, it is. I wouldn't mind a new character having some MK similarities if we weren't losing Orchid, Fulgore, or even Combo to make room for her.

6 characters, and one is this? :(

When i saw he MK was the first thing that popped in my mind. Not really a nitpick though. At least not for me. I am loving the whole Spider theme she's got going on, Can't wait till they start talking about this character.

Considering that this reveal actually included gameplay...

...any chance they sneak her into the Gamescom / FNF builds tonight?

Unlikely, I guess; it would be pretty great not to have to wait until PAX.

My guess this was suppose to be revealed at PAX.

pretty sure they said we'd see thunder gameplay at gamescom AND the next character revealed.

They did and they weren't going to follow the thunder tease route which means showing the actual character so this is all in line with what they stated would be revealed.

yeah. the vid was likely taken down because someone (cough, ign) had an exclusive

The air combo was neat. Though it looks like it was just a air normal canceled into an air special. Not sure I would call her an aerial rave character just yet.

Though, it would be awesome if she was, and had air chains, would be a nice way to set her apart from the rest of the cast.

I'm glad it's a new character getting a new play style. I wouldn't want the old characters to be changed so radically. As much as I want the original cast first, I'm really not opposed to seeing a new fighter as one of the first six. DH is doing an excellent job with the game and I think it's good to see something original coming from them. Plus it's good morale for the studio that they get to create something of their very own early on rather than working only with Rare's precious creations.

They're not just working on Rare's creations, tho.

They're completely remixing them. They have been given permission to completely change everything from character design to fighting style.

Don't get me wrong, I love treating devs with <3. But it's not like DH is being chained to their desks here. They've been given plenty of freedom with the design of this project.

You can only do so much with a redesign, though. It's a lot more restrictive (because of creator pressures, and fan desires), then getting to make something from-the-ground-up, and put your own ideas in. You step on far fewer toes.

I am kinda wondering if the story mode could have Arcs to it, now. Could this new girl be the boss / sub boss for now, but Fulgore be such for the next set of characters? Since she seems to have claws like him, it could tie them together some.

Also keep in mind that they are going to have alt costumes/"accessories" to people not feeling the outfit. I wonder if some of these may actually remove the mask on her/jago showing a fully modeled face.

It would be cool if so. I do hope they have some fun with it, and let us really modify some interesting things (Glacius' innards? Jago's Haircut?)

I understand that. But it's still redesigning something that was created by someone else. That's a big difference from having the opportunity to design and create something of your very own.

Does anyone know what the bar under the combo counter represents?

I'm not sure how it works, but it seems to be some kind of hitstun decay.

KV Meter.

From DrDogg's guide:

During every combo in Killer Instinct, a white bar appears under the combo hit counter. This is called the Knockout Value or KV meter.

With each additional hit in your combo, the bar increases until it turns red. This meter is a visual representation of your potential combo length and damage.

If you do not use a proper Ender by the time the KV meter turns red, the opponent is knocked away, you lose all of the built-up potential damage and your total combo damage suffers greatly.

They're gonna make fan favorite iconic characters the last 2 characters and leave a couple out entirely, aren't they? Ever since the game was showm I've been waiting for the Cinder/Spinal/Fulgore reveals.

Please tell me they will all be in eventually. I mean, I'm especially scared of what Cinder will become because he was OP with a simple design, but still, I want him!

Riptor would be nice too... I'd take him over Saberwulf any day.

After the first 8 characters there will be another 8 characters and maybe after those another batch of characters...

Did they say so? 8 chars then another 8?

Surely that would mean many new characters. With this new char and Orchid we're at 6. Add Spinal, Cinder, Fulgore, Riptor, Kim Wu, Maya and Tusk. That's 13. So 3 more new characters at least... Unless they add Eyedol and whoever that lame KI2 boss was, but I doubt it.

Gargos was it? He could be a flight character, that would be something different akin to MvC's firebrand.

I don't really get the MK complaint. I never played the original KI games, but watching vidoes of those games also reminds me of MK.

Regardless I'm kinda happy that DH are being given the freedom to add something of their own into the game from the beginning, and arent forced to introduce all of the original characters before being allowed to add some of their own.

Old KI was pretty much MK but mixed with Street Fighter.

Almost 3 months too late ;) http://www.rarefandabase.com/exclusive-new-killer-instinct-is-episodic-digital-only-and-pre-order-exclusive-shadow-jago/

Does anyone else feel like Thunder isn't much of a grappler? He has only one grapple move, otherwise he's still a rushdown character as he used to be. I still think TJ Combo would be an excellent rushdown/grappler type.

Yes, they said each season will have 8 characters and they already committed to Fulgore, Cinder, and Spinal, but didn't say when.

I'm guessing Cinder is going to become an aerial character. He already had that flip kick to launch an opponent in the air and he could perform his trailblazer move in midair, so it wouldn't be too much of a stretch.

I was thinking this too. You could give Combo a headbutt grab that functions a bit like Makoto's Karakusa or She-Hulk's Heavy Strike. As of right now Thunder really needs some sort of valid follow-up on his grab. It's very non-threatening at the moment.

There are different types of grapplers out there. To use SF, there are the Zangiefs and the Hugos, but there are also the T. Hawks and the Alexs's.

Hes more like the latter. Also his normal throw can be used as an opener or a linker in addition to all his command stuff.

Which is fucking amazing.
