Yeah ... but when your being a fan of the game affects other people it ain't cool. Hopefully ... not much will come of this as it was only a couple hours and not many people saw it when you consider the size of the internet.

If that were the case they'd only be worried about watching the videos for themselves, not spreading them around to far corners of the internet as quickly as possible.

Wow, just got out of an all-day interview (QA position for Hitachi, if you were wondering) and it's good to see this thread back on the front page. :D

Oh and Fersis, one of the guys who interviewed me today looked EXACTLY like ted price...couldn't stop thinking about it :lol

Embargo t-minus 52 minutes.

So is the flamethrower like

b_19.jpg

or something? :p Well that's what I thought of first when some of you described it.

Bububut CONTRIBUTOR POINTS!

I think N4G should be banned.

you can't expect the media to be all nice and chivalrious with eachother -- this is how they are, even in the mainstream media. i sympathize with blim, but it was gamersyde that made the mistake. and yeah, it'd be nice if every other site decided to not take advantage of the situation, but what obligation do they have?

They have a symbiotic relationship. If Blim gets blacklisted where they going to get their next batch of videos.

Achievement point whores spread to websites? Brilliant :lol

These are not your normal achievement whores.

These guys get paid to get top spot.

They're achievement whores that made it their job and purpose :(

it's not a symbiotic relationship, it's parasitic. and they'll get their content from anywhere they can, but their goal is to actually get the content, which they can't do if they play nice with the competition.

Does that somehow make it better than "uncool". Anyway ... its the fanboyism that drives the media to act in less than chivalrous ways to each other.

well... while i wait, i will just go to Gamersyde and click on their ads... hope it will help.
LTTP here. Stepped away to eat dinner and I come back and wtf, is Blim in some kind of trouble? Some videos got out? I read the post where Blim said all the videos were deleted. Hopefully it wasn't something that'll get him or their site in trouble. I like going there for game media. Matter of fact, I'm gonna go check out the site right now. If ad clicks will help, I'll gladly click on a bunch. lunlunqq, I played with/against you last night in the beta. I remember your name. Bodycount matches...

No it's symbiotic. Blim gets recognition through his watermarks and N4G gets vids on the bleeding edge of embargo breaks. At least that's how it should work.

if N4G puts gamersyde videos up before gamersyde does, i think the watermark 'benefit' is insignificant. ask blim if he thinks he benefits much from this

edit: well, it wouldn't be wise of him to admit it even if he thinks it

That works (well, minus the part that I don't give a fuck about people seeing my watermark, I hate any kind of watermarks and I only put them on my videos because otherwise everyone would steal them without credits), but not when I definitely don't anyway to see the gamersyde logo and any kind of videos associated until 40 more minutes ;)

.i.e. everything gets traced back to him :(

I'm glad I haven't pre-published my preview on my site anyway. Also, my text is in Swedish and doesn't contain any new videos, so I'm safe :)

Not only are the watermarks insignificant but (as in the case today) they're harmful. I was merely stating the N4G are not only doing Blim in injustice but also indirectly themselves as well.

Who is the player in the videos you will post?

This shit actually made me kinda hyped for the videos... how many hours left?

Can I ask what encoder / setting you guys use for your x/h264 video's nowadays? I guess these are being automated over some serverside commandlinetool like ffmpeg?

Been hacking around with some linux stuff myself, kinda got interested in the whole video processing pipeline :lol

ffmpeg for the final encoding, with mplayer before that to extract the audio (wmapro isn't supported by ffmpeg, so better safe than sorry). Good luck with the framerate stuff when you have to convert wmv files :D

Haha, thanks :lol

I'm only looking to write some optimized .mp4 files that can be played back in flash player 9+. It's amazing how powerful a free tool like ffmpeg actually is. Puts the 'professional' encoders to shame :D
