Anyone think Sony will drop the price of the PS3 to coincide with KZ2's launch? I'll be in the market for one when the game launches. I'd love a bundle or something... $350 for a PS3 + Killzone 2 would do it.

The change in palette, the way the lighting is set up, and the overall level of detail make it look less like the original CG intro. Compare the detail on the shoulder pads, for example, or the sharpness of the GG logo on the guys arm vs the blurrier one on the bottom.

Maybe it's just the compression but there's a definite difference, whether you want to acknowledge it or not.


Pic #2 has a fuckton of compression artifacts. You don't need to stare at it for 10 minutes to spot them.
And the lighting is VASTLY improved

Really amazing accomplishment.
Lots of improvements too, textures have improved considerably since the E3 2007 build (it was the weak point of the game one year ago), lighting, rag-doll animations, AI, have also been upped as well.
I've also noticed that the game looks more colourful and now there's some kind of warm lighting in the game which I really like. Of course there will be people who preferred the old really dark/gray, cold look but well.. I guess you can't please everyone :P

When I was watching the videos, there was something that pissed me off about it, but I couldn't figure out what it was...

The new version has more detail, but I feel like they added one too many filters, and now it's a bit too grainy.

The previous version had a sharp clarity to it, and it looked great. This new version still looks fantastic, but I prefer the sharpness over the war grain.

Just as the guy being burned alive in one of those welcome videos too. It looked and sounded REAL. I almost stopped watching the video :lol

You've got it backwards. The ones that say preview code on them WITHOUT the grain is the CURRENT build.

I finally watched the Capture & Hold + Ambush videos. Sniper headshots = fuctup(in a good way). I'm so playing that level, as a matter of fact, the whole game on the hardest difficulty setting just to extend that scene.

Ambush LOL @ the Higg trying to hop a grenade!
 
Ugh.....what did they do to Rico's voice? And where did all the bad ass lines like "I can't feel my nuts" go? "Next time we invade a hotel"? fucking fail. Other then that I can't wait, the rest of the game looks great!!

I agree, pulling them away with the controller would be cool.

I though the RPG looked a little less accurate in the SP video, was it like that in multiplayer? They looked like they move a bit once shot (good thing I would think)

It's a shame really. I mean it went from looking like a decent looking PS2 game to a fairly good PS1 game. I mean, the textures and lighting on the left totally don't wow me on that 2nd pic, no not at all.

Yeah the enemy dying sound is unnatrual. It's lasting too long and too loud. So weird. If they can simply lower the volume by 50% it would be much better.

That was actually an interesting discovery. basically those HGHs up there keep regenerating until you reach that part where the soldier dies and you have to grab his rocket launcher. At that point, they stop regenerating.

What I wonder is why GG felt the need to have those soldiers show up before the rocket launcher guy. It's kinda "stupid" to give the impression of regenerating soldiers when they really are not. Just have them show up when you turn the corner and see the rocket launcher dude die. No? It's not like they add so much to the spectacle to have them there, regenerating and all, for those 3 secs it takes to reach the checkpoint. Someone, like I did, might try to kill them all...

Besides that bridge section is the only one in which you see HGH regenerate. There is ZERO regeneration in the rest of the game

It's actually a huge relief to hear that.

Starting the footage and hearing the dude spam OVERHEREGETOVERHEREHEYOVERHERE then the guys who were all standing around like actors on a smoke break until you get there so they can do their death scene, then sequence right after where you engaged the dudes on that balcony, I saw the doorway then the second I heard COME BLOW UP THE BRIDGE my shitty-scripting detector had a meltdown.

Note to Tempy and whatever other GG guys lurk here, DON"T FUCKING SPAM THE PLAYER WITH DIALOGUE TO STRING THEM TO THE TRIPWIRE FOR WHATEVER SCRIPTED EVENT YOU WANT THEM TON GO TO. Let the npc say it ONCE, then just leave a subtle visual cue for them to pick up on if they forget what they have to do.

Think for a second, you made the most visually impressive console game to date, people are going to want to soak it in, look around and explore areas before proceeding to the next objective. Harassing the player is just a stupid thing to do.

So it should look all kinds of better on your TV. :P

well, it has some, but it's clearly being put together. and there is no real beginning. preview starts with the Corinth landing. No tutorial, no presentations, no briefing, nothing.

For now I'd say it's intriguing tho.
 
Nice, everything looks to received an upgrade. Especially character faces and lighting. Dust effects are still there, yea yea the Square looks cleaner now but take a look at Ambushed and Welcome part 1 videos, especially the Ambushed one. Butt loads of wind dust/smoke there. I do however think the contrast, not a problem with too much colors as some suggested, is a little too high in some parts but strangely it's not uniformly across the game.

The info on Killzone.com is vast, potential for a great story.

Curious, @ anyone who dislike the flamethrower, why? Looked fine to me.

Also ... lol at that IGN peview. That shotgun GIF is the meanest, meatiest, most badass thing I've seen. I don't even like using shotguns in FPS, but I'm gonna use that son of a bitch for sure.
 
TTP - Someone mentioned that the HGH glowing goggles change intensity according to their alertness.

They did this in Liberation so I didn't find the claim so unbelievable.

Any truth to this?
