I played 8 v 8 on Salamun Market earlier, and the team sizes seem much too small. I prefer the full 32 player on that level.

Hm, really? I found 8 v 8 to be great even on that map size, though, I think it could be upped a bit to maybe 10 v 10 or 12 v 12. But 16 v 16 still feels a bit too much even on that large map.

I just prefer it where you hear gun fire everywhere you go in each level. When I was playing in that 8 v 8 match everyone was all grouped in 1 section of the map. When you've got 32 players you've got different pockets fighting all over the map.

It relly depends on hte map. Blood Gratch is best at 16 to 20 people, as is Redric Acadamy, but Solomans market is fine at 32 IMHO

Yeah, I guess you may be right.

Salmun Market is probably my favorite map in the beta for this reason alone; it works well for large player counts and truly feels like a 'Warzone' :)

The other maps are also amazing too, but just can't handle 32 players.

Perhaps some disagree, but I find that the game plays the best when it is 8 v 8 on all maps.

I think 32 players is a great option to support, but it gets a bit too chaotic.

16 is really the ideal number to me, and I hope that's the number you will see in ranked matches (8 v 8)

That has been my main complain since I entered the KZ2 beta. Devs say you can just create or join a game with lower players cap, but they don't want to force that so that chaos loving players get their stupid messy action fix.

The problem with this (as I also said on the beta forum) is that newcomers might jump in a 32pp match in a small map, die every 3 secs and come away with the wrong impression. This is very unfortunate. I do already hear friends in the beta complaining about how messy it is.

Yep.

It's the same problem Resistance 1 had with all the lobbies being 1-hit kills. That turned me off from the game.

I hope they take your advice into account, because you really dont want to give the wrong impression about this game....

I don't know if there's an easy solution, but I think that if there is one that ranked matches force a maximum player limit depending on the map, while casual (non ranked) matches allow anyone to configure their playlist as they wish.

But, from what I've played of the beta, you just gain experience which increases your rank...There is no distinction between ranked matches and non-ranked matches.

The worst case scenario is that when the game releases, every single lobby is a 32 player match on all the maps, just like how 1 hit kills in Resistance 1 were ALL of the lobbies as well. This would be terrible, and it's such an easy fix that they need to come up with a solution because it is a frustrating experience playing Blood Gracht with 32 people.

It's kind of sad how GG has crafted this amazing multiplayer experience gameplay wise, but some UI issues can degrade the experience.

I really hope they use the next few months getting their system up to par with Resistance 2.

i actually prefer 32p much more then 16p, 32 just gives me way more types of little battles than 16p, where it usually ends up in me having nothing but 1v1 battles and to me thats boring. i like feeling like im contributing to a much larger battle and i just dont get that feeling on 16p.

It's just too chaotic most of the times man.

Dying every 3 seconds isn't fun. 32 players matches on small maps just promote rocket-whores even more. They already know theyre gonna die in 3 seconds, so its easy to just spawn and be a rocket whore, get your 1-2 rockets off, and then you'll respawn again. it is lame.

They should outlaw this type of playstyle to the depths of casual unranked matches.

I don't know how you don't get that same feeling considering most game modes require both teams to converge on the same spots. So it gets hot even with just 16 players.

When you bring turrets, drone and spawn nades into the mix, it's 100% constant action.

With 32 players, it's 100% constant mess. I can't even target the enemy as my view is filled with (repetedly spawing and dieing) teammates.

Do we know how the ranked/unranked thing works? Every match seems to be ranked in the beta, even the most absurd custom ones. They all add points to your rank progression.

yes its quite chaotic but in a good way for me, i just love watching huge groups of people shootin it out. also i dont die very much for some reason as most enemies seem to ignore me, ive seen how bad the helghast spawn can get camped on radec but i always seem to make it out of there pretty easy. not many people seem to realize there are 3 ways to get out instead of just standing in front of the main entrance asking to get rocketed. i just go underground or take the top and there is usually no one there.

I really hope there is an open beta.

From the closed beta, is hosting done by dedicated servers (R2 style), or P2P (ala Gears of War 2 and COD4/WAW)?

Dedicated servers. I don't think I've played a Sony-published shooter this generation that runs on p2p, it's lag-free for the most part.

Please let GG know with your feedback :)

Hopefully they know this already...but I'd rather see 16 player matches be the standard rather than 32.

yeah I agree.

I just got done with a 2vs2 match and that was actually pretty fun :D

I love 32 player matches.
With 2 good teams, it's not that much of a mess.
I love the chaos sometimes though. There's still a lot of strategy involved too.

16 is also good.

For those asking for a party system in the final game, I agree of course and a lot of ppl have been asking for it on the Beta forums, but do you think by then we'll be able to do it via HOME? Assuming it's out lol

So we all meet up in someones "apartment" voice chat there and jump into games of KZ2? That's the main draw of HOME for me.

Guerrilla's answer about player numbers is on the forum.
Basically it's all up to the players as there aren't the classic divide between ranked and unranked matches in this game, players form all the matches out there and therefor Guerrilla are letting players put 32players on a tiny map if they so please.

I am pretty sure that this is only for the beta and/or custom games. Blood Gracht is most definitely a 16 player map. But you join a server and just keep rotating through maps with the same people. I am pretty sure that isn't how the matchmaking will work. I am sure you will run into this on player hosted games, if the player doesn't want to boot half of the players when you move from a 16vs to an 8vs map.

Ruuuuuh-Oooooh. I swear Guerrilla, you guys better not fuck this game up with draconian matchmaking. There is no excuse that your game, the PS3's crown jewel, should not have Halo 3 type matchmaking or better.

Crap...maybe they will include KZ1 cut scenes on a special edition disc or something. I don't know much about the back story.
Yeah, I'd really like to see a story background trailer released which could include edited cutscenes from KZ1 and KZ Liberation along with some narration on top.

Ah... Good point. I was getting a little worried when I reading about the possibility of no parties or invites or whatnot because I want to play with friends, not random people whenever possible. I was thinking maybe clans could be an answer to that, but most of the people I play with have families and can really only get together on the weekends, and we'd certainly get butchered by most (more serious) clans.

But Home could be the answer in terms of getting a party together even if it's not built into the game.

Yeah, I've read it. It's cool. I'm just saying a trailer could be cool too.

Luckily i have PSP and PS2. I guess i'll need to play both aswell seeing as they won't probably do the cut-scene thing.

Just read all the unlocked storyline articles on that KZ site, pretty interesting stuff. I might have overlooked something, but is there a way to read all the "Locked" stuff?

They unlock new parts to the storyline every month. (or so I've read)

If you like the storyline section, i recommend you look up the pieces written by Iain Howe (you can find them under the News section and then filter Author - Iain Howe, on the killzone.com site ofcourse).

It's basically a more indepth (and propagandic) version of certain major events found in the storyline mostly from the viewpoint of the Helghast.

It's incomplete, but i enjoyed them nonetheless.

Well, I know the embargo was lifted for the media, but did they actually say the NDA for the beta testers was too?

/me goes check out the forum.
Embargo is up...NDA is not.

Oh and the beta will last at least until the 28th so it was extended by about a week?
They did say AT LEAST :)

Just read that.

So yeah, I have to keep my mouth shut for now then :p

So it seems that December 4th may be the lift date for the new campaign media and previews. That is according to PSXExtreme:

And one last thing: we currently have something better than the Killzone 2 beta. It's still Killzone 2, but we're not allowed to talk about it until December 4...so we won't.

Edit: ooops, I'm late.

TTP, are there still some more of your vids coming to Gamersyde today/tomorrow?

I'm gonna grab some during this weekend. So probably show up on Gamersyde on monday (encoding, uploading).

Perhaps I should make smaller vids focused on each class. I'm still midway through the ranks tho.

^^ Awesome, looking forward to it. Shorter class based movies would be great if it isn't too much hassle. Just show what you got unlocked so far :D Thanks in advance btw!

I agree. 8 players vs. 8 players is perfect. It's perfect on Blood Gracht, The Radec Academy, and it's really good for the market as well.

I just felt like 32 players was a little too much. I'd often leave them if they got too crowded. I just felt with all the corners, alleyways, high ground, low ground, and pathways, it became too hard to play on. There would always be someone everywhere you look. Sometimes you need a few seconds to get to somewhere you would like to go or be. But instead you are too busy running into an enemy every 3 seconds which doesn't allow for you to do much. Whereas in an 8 on 8 I'd have space to do team objectives without getting shot at 24/7 by enemies. And I'd be able to find a spot I like and traverse the map without being raped. And face it, it would happen to even the best players too.

No matter how good you are, when all the people are near eachother on a 32 player map, you aren't going to be seeing big kill streaks... You are just never safe.

Gosh @ TTP's vids.

I don't know if there are dependencies between the image postprocessing system in GG's engine and other parts of the engine, like lighting, or not - but if not, they should package that up and spread the wealth. One is tempted to think that virtually any game could get a boost from that quality of post processing regardless of their underlying geometry or lighting or shading qualities.

Of course, when all these things come together, as here, the results are even more spectacular.
