I played the warhawk online demo for ages, and then realised that i just had to buy it. I had no intentions of buying it whatsoever before that. Best demo ever, it must have helped them sell a lot of extra copies.

That Amazon 1 million thing came from some random poster on Amazon.com the other day heh. I actually saw the thread. That would probably be way more pre-orders than what H3 had at this point before shipping on Amazon. I also have not seen any confirmation on pre-orders from Gamestop either.
